Quick question Kev, I am on an Offshore substation build, we have MM ans SM links, the company is insisting we use an OTDR to get results, I would much rather use an OLTS. The longest cable is probably 75m, Can I ask your thoughts on using an OTDR ovr such short lengths? I personally think oyu would not get an accurate test result and would have to switch off all parameters on the EXFO to get any kind of pass.. What do you think? Many thanks, Rich

Hi, We recently entered into an agreement with a telecommunication company that requires us to measure the lengths of fiber optic cables in specific areas using an OTDR device. As a test, we began measurements from a point known as the Optic Line Terminal (OLT) in one area, using the OTDR device in FTTH mode. This resulted in the generation of 50-60 PDF reports. Our current challenge is processing these OTDR results to determine the total lengths of the cables in the specified area accurately. The difficulty arises because some cables follow the same route before diverging to different neighborhoods. If we simply sum the lengths from the PDFs, we will end up with inaccurate and unrealistic results due to the overlapping routes. We need to identify and deduct these common, mutually used distances to get an accurate total length. We are struggling with pinpointing these overlapping routes/distances. Could you please assist us in resolving this issue?

Can I use OTDR to determine the optical fiber if it is single or multi mode? Is OTDR able to test multi mode cable??
