That is one beautiful book! I love the pages you showed. Made in China....way of the world these days. Cheaper labor, latest technology. Yes, it is so expensive to collect Elvis books these days, and amazing where all those early photos are coming from. I agree with your comments about Elvis always being so relaxed in front of cameras, so patient with both fans and professional photographers. I think he must have realised right from the start how unusually handsome he was, and accepted the fact he would always be photographed.

What a beautiful looking book! And you are so right about the sky high prices of all these new ELVIS releases ( FTD, MRS ). It's sad because it's keeping alot of ELVIS fans from getting any new releases.

I have been collecting Elvis books, cd, video… and vinyl to a lesser degree since the mid 90’s, when I was about 20. Still collect all FTD, but not too much else. I stopped most of the other stuff a few years ago. Incl bootlegs. I had them all. Still have hundreds of them, all soundboards, most of the AR cd’s, which I’ve collected and sold a few times over, when I sold earlier releases for ones with upgraded sound. Not only have I been a collector but also a completist. And that was very expensive. Looking back, it’s been exciting, but all that stuff has taken so much room, that I don’t have space left, and I wish I had instead hunted for very rare, unique, original, special Elvis collector’s items during a time when these things like that could have still be gotten at a reasonable, sometimes even cheap price, if you use your connections and are persistent and alert. I had all the connections and opportunities plus enough money but somehow didn’t go that route…. And then in time trading lesser stuff for even more rare stuff etc. Nowadays, I still get every music/video release, besides the ones I buy on physical media, lossless but digitally thru friends or torrents, which is only alive and well since about give or take 8 years or so. Another thing, is that honestly… collecting was the most exciting to me in the 90’s and early 2000’s… when labels like Fort Baxter, Madison, Luxor, DAE… were releasing great-sounding cd’s, and one had to really put in an effort to collect all, internationally. All felt like a forbidden fruit, even the record fairs where they put the bootlegs here and there in between regular cd’s, or some guy would sell me Elvis bootlegs literally from the trunk of his car… 😂… Being a collector was a way of life, you belonged in some secret cult or something. Now, it’s all mainstream and kinda boring. STILL love ELvis and enjoy every new unheard alternate take/live track… but it doesn’t feel the same. Back then one would get very excited by getting sent a blank cd-r with rare, unheard Elvis tracks somebody compiled for you from the other side of the world, regular mail. Which you could then use to surprise other fans with. Nothing was easy, you had to go the extra mile. I guess human beings are wired to appreciate things more when they indeed have to go the extra mile ? Just some of my rambling thoughts… 😊

Kiitos! It is remarkable that even his early life was so well documented. But you are right about the prices being charged for the new packages, it keeps a lot of fans out of collecting. TCB
