She played a vampire in amazing movie called Only Lovers Left Alive…Her and Tom Hiddleson place two vampires she plays Eve he plays Adam and they are ancient lovers..It’s a fantastic vampire movie, both are amazing in it, Tilda was meant to play vampire and is so good in it. That’s why she is head of the council they even have her hair styled just like Eve was in the movie…

I feel that as they age, since they have transfiguration they just give less of a care about looking human and go further into their more “default” monster form. Like they care less about hiding since they are board and haven’t be caught yet. Perhaps if Peter really wanted to he probably could look more human with his powers. It’s like the freshman dressing up to got to a party vs the senior that shows up in a hoodie and sweat pants.

4:24 it’s probably safe to assume that this is a myth. In the film Peter was burnt to a crispy skeleton, but both Deacon and Nick, who were both turned by him, have yet to kick the bucket forever.

But it is shown that they can regenerate after being burned it seems the stronger you are it's less likely the sun will actually kill you. The Barron got burned so bad he was just a half Skelton torso with a hardly hanging on head but they buried him and he regenerated. Peters probably still alive

werewolves and vampires have mythologically the same origin (at least slavic ones) so thats probably why theyre both weak to silver. in fact im pretty sure mythologically the reason why vampires cant see their reflection is because old timey mirrors were made with polished silver

To add to the mythology you just mentioned, the reason why they are weak to silver, is due to the payment that Judas Iskariot received, 30 pieces of silver. Which became a mark of those who had betrayed Jesus, and also God. Later it was believed that god used silver to exact his divine punishment to who had betrayed him, much in the same way as with sunlight, or anything holy. On top of that, most modern mirrors are glass coateded in either aluminum, or silver. With silver having the highest light reflective qualities. Most older mirrors was also are just straight up silver coated glass. So the majority of mirrors the viewer sees in What We Do In The Shadows, are vintage, and therefore silvered. Lastly, as silver is a divine tool of god, it is believed that could would never allow the soulless to be reflected in it. Which is why video and cameras still catches the visage of the soulless vampire.

I never got the impression that Petyr couldn't speak. Only that he chose not to. Deacon specifically mentions that Petyr screeched, "NOW, YOU ARE VAMPIRE" after turning him.

My theory about energy vampires is that they're like batteries. As long as they have energy, they're basically immune to everything but when they run out, they'd probably have the same weaknesses as normal vampires. As for the phoenix like resurrections, that sounds pretty cool. I think Colin though is unique in that he can recover his original personality though, through his journals or maybe the original personality is always there and his journals are able to make it resurface.

My guess would be that Collin maybe knows more then he reveals. He clearly had thoses books planned out and ready. I also think that Collin only found out about the memory thing in the past 100 years and that he is possibly old but just has no recollection of those years.

Tilda Swintons vampire role was as Eve in Only Lovers Left Alive. In Constantine she was the angel Gabriel. Loved the videos! 👍

I mean I don't know about the Blu-ray version of the original film as I have not watched it, if it was extended & if it had more or different extras, but the DVD version's extras, were really satisfying, & very interesting! This features characters from the original film AND the series that followed. Both excellent and very amusing. Some of the characters from the filum occasionally appeared in the series too...and also disappeared in it afterwards.

The time it takes to transform into a vampire seems to vary widely and I think it depends on if you are dead or dying when turned, or not. Nick and Jenna both took days or weeks. Nandor's werewolf girlfriend turned in an instant. Laszlo died under Nadja's attack before he could... finish... and presumably turned before he awoke. Derek says he turned in 6-8 hours. So apparently it depends!

Speaking of chinese vampires (Jiangshi) you should check out the Mr. Vampire series. Its a classic to any asian kid that grew up intreseted in vampire. Its also a very niche group of vampires in America. Id love to see you cover them.

My theory on Collin is that after he was reborn and read his diaries, he DOES remember being an annoying child but pretends like he doesn’t just to annoy and feed off everyone who had to take care of him

Great video, mate. As far as vampire sense of smell, I do recall them acting like the scent of werewolves was very annoying, so I imagine that it too is increased. Also Peter from the original film was my fav. But Colin from the series is also.

There's another show set in the WWDITS universe called "Wellington Paranormal" where the two police officers from the movie investigate, well... Paranormal happenings around Wellington. It actually introduces a few more types of paranormal creatures such as fungal aliens, poltergeists, ghost cars, taniwha and Satan himself.

Collin did remember the past year. He just used Laszlo's sorrow as an energy draining tactic.

The other thing that I've wondered with WWDitS is I genuinely think it's not just a comedy, I think the vampire curse is sending them mad. It errodes their grasp of reality. Maybe it's being dead or having no soul but it's like they can't quite see the world as it is in front of them. Like the side effects of hypnosis but on themselves.

If you haven't seen it yet, Shadow of the Vampire is an amazing movie. The lead is played by Willem Dafoe, and he is excellent in the part. It's basically a making of the first vampire movie Nosferatu. And I really like What We Do in the Shadows, I think that I saw the movie, but it's been a while, and I would love to see the series, it looks funny.

Love to hear your take on some of the different entities (including vampires) that show up in Wellington Paranormal. It's based in the same universe as What We Do In The Shadows and include characters from it.

@@coganLollins Dude the book series is insane and long. Go for the first book (can't really do a video about necromancers from these books) and keep it at that. There's like 20 vampire books, it gets crazy and almost sci-fi in later books

I made the mistake of watching the series with a couple friends of mine...when they got to the Vampiric Council episode they became confused by most of the members because some of the movies they were in weren't as well-known, and I had the dubious "honor" of having to explain them (e.g. Tilda Swinton from Only Lovers Left Alive, Danny Trejo from From Dusk 'til Dawn, etc.).

Narrator is an energy vampire. Well played.

Tilda was great in "Only lovers left alive" I can't recomend enough this film❤

Its probably been said, but in the movie deacon probably snuck into the backpack when he was transformed into a bat, and simply turned back a bit later.

I love they consider Wesley Snipes to be the daywalker and actively exclude him on their plans.

metals like silver and gold are sometimes considered holy metals which is why vampires and Lycan are weak to them, and where the lack of reflections originates from ( old mirrors were made with silver so if vampires existed now a day they would actually have reflections as mirrors are no longer made with silver)

I like to think energy vampires aren't vampires at all, at least not the same kind of species or creature as each other despite their similarities. Like how apparentally Jellyfish and Comb Jellies look the same but aren't as related as we think.

5:40 The reason vampires appear in (digital) photos and videos but not mirrors is because mirrors use a thin layer of silver behind glass to reflect. Of course, this raises the question of why old photos and film of vampires exist and are shown in the credits, but presumably this is because old photo/film development methods used silver *salts*, not elemental silver. 6:15 oh, and maybe the fact that feeding on blood reverts the vampire to their normal age was why Countess Bathory bathed in blood. Feeding in blood can only make you as young as you were when you were turned, but maybe that wasn't enough for her, so she tried everything she could think of.

Tilda's vampire character is from the movie 'Only Lovers Left Alive' which is also a great vampire movie. Don't expect much in the sense of action though, it's very much a slice of 'un'life.

Latest Ep as of posting introduced the Supreme Council of Energy Vampires. The episode before that showed Guillermo as a half-vampire(?) growing bat wings out of his back and showed that his sweat can be turned into sunscreen that will let vampires walk in the sun and only receive a horrible sunburn instead of dying. Also, some vampires can fly into outer space

They disprove the bloodline theory in the movie: Peter is killed but Deacon and Nick both survive to carry on. I mean, the Staten Island vamps may not know that as the New Zealand vampires may have kept that much a secret.

There's also Wellington Paranormal, which is a mockumentary that follows the two New Zealand police officers from the 2014 movie as they follow a monster-a-week episode format. That got 4 seasons before it got put on hiatus, and showcases several more of the supernatural creatures in the shared universe, including demons; aliens; sea monsters; and other creatures not touched upon or only lightly visited in WWDitS.

What confused me is that when petyr died, deacon was fine but in the show they said if the sire (the first vampire) dies all vampires die cause if the one who turned you dies you die. So which is true? IDK love this show and the content btw dude

It's worth noting that it was only Lazlo and Colin who interpreted it as "if YOUR sire dies, you die." Personal sires would not count in the original premise, as they aren't progenitors of the species, as we saw with Petyr. So only if THE Sire dies, all vampires die.(maybe???)

Awesome, glad you finally checked this out. I recently just watched a video where you mentioned not having seen this yet and since I found your channel and got the whole vibe I figured you'd probably love it. The movie and series are just one huge reference and love letter to vampires in fiction performed by some seriously talented writers and comedians. With surprisingly deep lore for a comedy property.

I haven't watched the show yet, but from the movie, I basically got the impression that this universe is "what if VLARPers were actually vampires".

It's a rather fatal misconception to assume that snake "charming" makes you immune to snake venom. Surprise! It does not.

I love the episode of the vampire council and its so many actors who have played vampires it's brilliantly done and hilarious I didn't know that was tilda's idea love it. Love the bit, we are werewolves, not swearwolves 😂. It's a great show and film both are very clever with the lore and mix of humour.

Love how he referees to Guillermo as Nandors familiar 😭

Another great book series that had a TV show, is The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher which is full of Vampires, Werewolves of many types, etc. There is the Hammer Horror films, with the great Christopher Lee, & Peter Cushing. Also Shadow Hunters, available on both streaming services, DVD & Blu-ray discs.

ACTUALLY it started in 2005 with the short film that originated the name. The 2014 movie was an extension and remake of the 2005 short film. You don't miss much if you don't see the short film (other than scenes of homophobia expressed towards the main cast which was filmed live in downtown Wellington). But the one thing the short film has that all other versions lack, is the subtitle "An Interview With Some Vampires", the obvious inspiration for the whole franchise, and the funniest joke ever.

Have you watched "Wellington Paranormal" this is another TV series set in the same time line based on the same two cops from the film who end up investigating the Paranormal in the Wellington New Zealand and features all sorts of different paranormal creatures. I would highly recommend looking this series up as well.

the tv vamps weren’t sentenced to death by sunlight because its the punishment for the worst crimes. if a vampire is found guilty of killing another vampire they are sentenced to death in whatever way it was they carried out their murder. in the show they were found guilty of burning the baron in the sun, so that was their method of death

The thing with them not having a reflection in mirrors but being able to be captured in footage is because old mirrors were made with silver, which is commonly associated to be the bane of the unholy and undead.

I’m so glad What We Do In The Shadows exists. Twilight has officially been dethroned as pop culture’s general consensus of what a vampire is in favour of something fun and modern yet still very traditional and diverse.

Also old fashioned photography had silver nitrate in development of the photo that’s why they can’t be captured in photographs

New lore detail according to last night's episode: if the sire of a vampire is killed, that vampire will turn human again and the time they lost while undead will catch up to them. For a young vampire like Guillermo, this doesn't have many consequences, but for vampires that have been alive for centuries, this presumably will kill them due to rapid aging

@@GRA5S yeah, there are a few details of the movie and show that don't line up eg. nandor was extremely offended that guillermo would even suggest going to someone else to become a vampire, meanwhile deacon's familiar was turned by someone else and they didn't really care

I love all them so much....especially Nandor and Nadia. Though, I am not loving the blonde chick so much. I thought I hated Colin but then he became the baby and I actually missed his interacting with the others. Also, the older you get, the more energy vampires you meet and the schitck becomes funnier.

I remember few months ago recommending you to make a video on this universe. I'm glad you took my recommendations. Because if you're into vampire lore and silly comedy, What We Do In The Shadows is without any doubt the best at that. It's stupidly funny yet the lore is too good. Breaking 4th walls and basically free of any serious vampire laws but they do it in really good funny way. The lore is really awesome, my favourite vampiric lore by far. The movie and series compliment each other. Personally I love the series more. Viaggo, Deacon, Vladislav and Petyr are awesome. But the complete madness of Nandor the banana wins. And Baron Afanas...He's amazing. The mannerisms, body language and all else is perfection. He has that Royal elegant supremacy vibe while being a complete savage. They nailed his looks especially during his entrance. A scarier version of the Unseen Elder (from The Witcher). Energy vampire is a genius creation. We all know or at least have met one of those. Lol.

This movie & series is on my list since it's right up my alley.
