Priest is another one of those vampire movies that deserved way better at the time of it's release, I'm still salty this movie didn't get a sequel and I still wanna see the conclusion of the feud between Priest and Black Hat, it's a shame we'll never see more of this world.

Priest. Legion(Gabriel's Wings, Mace, and his combat style were sick.) I feel like both of these movies had solid ideas and even execution. However I thought the creature designs were weak with the "Angels" and these Vampires being the only supernatural threat. Not exactly in the same vein.Hard-core Henry. Ninja Assassin. Also came out around this time and were overlooked. I did love to combine Legion, Priest, with uh more 40k technology and pyskers. Let us hope 40k live action does it justice.

The guy who played the icecream man in Legion is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. He has played the monsters in so many films, including Pan's Labyrinth. I was always upset that he kept getting these bit parts. He finally landed a leading role in Star Trek Discovery as Saru. I've been watching trek since TNG in the 80s (and DS9 & VOY in the 90s) and I don't care what anyone says, Discovery is great.

Actually, the war was won by the Humans but barely less like both sides decided to break a truth to lick their wounds but the Humans beat the crap out of the Vampires but were too weak to finish them. That's why City dwellers are cramped in the welled cities because they were too terrified of their enemy, not because they were forced to. This is kinda familiar to the Mutants that surround the hive cities, waiting, bidding their time for a perfect moment to strike.

My grandma, surprisingly, is the person who introduced me to most of the vampire movies I know and watch today. She loves watching movies like Underworld, Blade, Priest, Van Helsing, The Lost Boys, etc etc etc. She also just likes good movies and monster movies in general, since she also likes the Resident Evil movies (have to disagree with her on those though), Terminator, Book of Eli, The Equalizer, Alien and Aliens, and the likes. It's actually a bit funny, now that I think about it, that I used to watch these movies at her house as a kid and get scared out of my mind at the thought of being eaten or attacked at night, but as it turns out, watching those movies as a kid made me love them even more now as an adult. Oh yeah, and priest is a SERIOUSLY underrated movie.

Although it didn't get great reviews, this is one of my favorite vampire movies. I would love to see a part 2 for this movie, as you said in your video, there are a lot of issues that need to be resolved. Also, if you love vampires and the old west, American Vampire is a great read, it deals with European vampires who come to the new world to spread their breed into it. However, they come across a outlaw who they accidently turn into a new breed of vampire. This comic is great because it starts in the old west, and ends somewhere in the 1970's I think. It's great to see the different eras in the story and how the vampires adapt to their new surroundings.

Your speculation about the origin of the vampires is pretty accurate. In the movie’s press conference, the “translator” woman said the angels evolved into the vampires(not explained of course) and that the current priests learned their skills from the original, Ivan Issac. A lot of the graphic novel fans hated the movie but I enjoyed it (especially the opening sequence) and yes I thought the movie could have been longer to tie in more of the original lore from the graphic novel.

To me the world is great. The vampires were the weakest part. I don't really see how the Vampires are a threat once gunpowder became a thing. They needed more Supernatural creatures and concepts in it. The Priest needed more than just "peak" human to be justifiable how a handful of them did what armies couldn't. More 40k influences would have been amazing. Specifically more creatures, technology, and add in some magic into the mix. Holy, nature, and satanic/demonic magic always can make for fun worlds. These things aren't vampires. Still loved it along with Legion which suffered the same issue. Those weren't Angels like these aren't vampires. With the exception of Gabriel who had an amazing combat style using his wings as both weapons and armor while having that whirling mace! Truly epic... Just wished Michael had more than guns and a gas oven.

I never had trouble imagining how an eyeless creature could still see: perhaps the cells of skin are simultaneously optic and dermis; maybe latticed between skin-cells are optic-cells forming a compound eye across the whole face; or perhaps the skin is a battery of sensory-fascia providing vivid-visual-input from synesthesia (maybe they see other senses combined) air-pressure, electromagnetism, heat, chemo-reception, auras, fields, etc)

1:26 a very one note comment on my part, very not related to the rest of the video, but the funny things about bug hives with queens (let's take bees for example) is that the hive does *not* obey the queen as it's almost the other way around. If a queen bee is found to be "detrimental" to the hive, bees will literally off her and make a new one. Yes: make a new one. Worker bees will select one of the many female larvae and start feeding her exclusively royal jelly. Bare in mind that larvae intended to become worker bees also eat royal jelly, but are also fed honey, nectar, and other foods bees usually eat. So where was I going with this? It'd be funny those vampires worked the same: vampire queen not doing her job properly? The hives off her and starts feeding the baby vampires the "royal blood" to make a new queen. :P

When watching this I was waiting for some twist that the leading clergy were some vamps, or different kinds, or servants of another that weren't familiars or something since the city was dark bc of pollution and their suppression of things. Kind of like the line from Usual Suspects, "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist." with all the vamp denial. Oh well, lol. Still a nice different take on vampires in this one. To me it had an alien feel to the queen and maybe was how their blood interacted with humans. Either way, thanks for another one!

Great review as always, do you think you can do The Mummy both the 1999 and 2017 Versions to compare like what you liked or didn't like about the films.

This movie and legion were both like not great, but underappreciated all the same. They were the B movies of my youth and I remember them fondly. Maybe throw Covenant in there with young Seb Stan and the best character from Sky High.

I'm pretty sure black hat wasn't killed or atleast door was open for a return. I liked the Warhammer look. It was a surprise. Since i had a inkling of its anime parentage. I waited for long time to watch mainly because anime films and books spend half the movie talking about how they got to where they are. Or the kooky swords they all seem to have. This movie should have been big, with a part 2!

Thanks again Sir. I too quite enjoyed this film and I also agree with your assessment of its strengths and shortcomings. I thought it once more, a very unique perspective regarding the vampire mythos and though I shudder at the idea of such noteworthy films getting a pathetic sequel, I think a possibility for a prequel could have fared well. Oh also, though I am hesitant to recommend a 3D presentation of many films, this one was done very well indeed and for those with the ability, would recommend giving the 3D version a look. :)

Hello, big fan of the videos, Ideas of stuff to cover that you may have not come across yet: The vampires from the CW Show Supernatural- this is a total layup if you’ve never seen the series, a ton of interesting lore and multiple vampire centered episodes to pull from. Tales from the Crypt Presents: Bordello of Blood- it’s a goofy, albeit shlocky vampire flick, but it’s a fun watch and has a few interesting lore bits that would be fun to dive into. Hellsing Ultimate- I know you’ve covered Alucard in your top 5 videos before, but a deeper dive into the series could be cool, looking into vampire powers, as well as the powers of The Captain, aka the werewolf of the series.

The concept of the original vampires being animalistic aligned with how I imagined them to be on first reading vampire stories which makes Priest one of my all time favourite movies, plus the storyline was engrossing.

This was clearly a good movie. Drama, forbidden love, action, horror, everything was done well. Too bad it will never have a sequel.
