Anything James Woods is in, is usually a pretty good or excellent movie, due to his presence. I still need to seem them all. I gotta recommend Best Seller (1987) w/ Brian Dennehy. Kind of a unique and interesting variation on the buddy-cop, two partner, genre. "A hitman approaches a writer to help him create his next best seller, but the violent world he was a part of has other plans." Dennehy and Woods is one helluva acting combination.

I always wondered if Montoya fed on any innocents after he turned. Jack had to know this was possible, even likely, which makes me wonder why he allowed it. I guess it comes down to loyalty? Maybe Jack was giving Montoya a chance to self immolate once he turned?

I am thinking Anthony could have survived the first vampire attack, strong enough will could subside the vampire turning. It seems like it is a sign of possession or maybe a disease. A strong enouh will can shrug off the possession and maybe the disease. The second bite was the one that did him in.

Imagine if Anthony became a master (since becoming one depends on one’s will).
The novel was WAY better than the movie. John Carpenter said back in 1998 that his original vision for the movie was to be somewhat closer to the novel, including having the second half of the movie take place in a city, not just the desert. But according to Carpenter, the studio made the decision to slash his budget and filming schedule in half, after he had already started filming. So he was forced to quickly rewrite the script and find cheaper shooting locations to compensate. It's truly a shame, because the novel could easily be adapted to a movie as is, with no changes and be awesome.

The biggest sin this movie commits is missing the entire point of the book. That there is no magic messianic fix. No first one, last one, destiny one. These guys are just holding back the tide. There is a great scene where Jack eulogizes the team that got wiped out. He laments how he has to go and recruit good, brave hero types, knowing they'll only live a few years before falling to these monsters, and then Jack will have to pick up and find more brave heroes to sign up to die brutally sooner than later. That is what makes the story so good, so poignant. And there is a nobility in knowing this, and carrying on anyway. This is probably the only 90's movie I hope gets remade.... correctly.

My only complaint is the Cardinal's logic. You would think the origin and existence of vampires would be enough proof that the afterlife does exist.
@APackOfHungryGhosts
11 күн бұрын
It's his faith in God that's slipped away. At one point he says "In all my years of prayer and service, I've never seen any miracles, he's shown me no signs." Basically, the cardinal is nearing old age, and becoming fearful of death, his belief in God and the afterlife are shaken... but while he doesn't have proof of God, or the afterlife, he knows for a fact that evil is real and the only way to escape death is the immortality a vampire enjoys. It's that old adage "If you can't beat them, join them."
Woods' acting was by far the best part of the film. You can clearly see he was having the time of his life while filming this sh*t 😂😂😂

Great video, as always. I don't think that Father Valek was ever possessed. I took it as though he was accused of being possessed and had the experimental exorcism used on him, but it went wrong because he WASNT possessed. So, instead of getting rid of the demons, it just killed his body and left his soul in an undead husk. Also, Valek (or Valac or Valik) is a demon listed in grimoire "The Lesser Key of Solomon" and was the VERY LOOSE basis for the lead demon in "The Nun"
The Padre would DEFINITELY be on my vampire hunting team.
The shot of the master vampire chasing the truck unlocked a childhood memory for me, I just realised I watched this film when I was like 8. The truck scene definitely terrified me

I have thought about valec on the train. I have couple of ideas .One is that it takes to much " blood use " to use his powers , so he rides the train to conserve blood. Two is that is would be faster than flying . Three he was just having fun , he has time on his side no need to rush . Four is that he cant fly , however he has super speed and super jumping strength. The last one is it was just a cool shot in the film.

Considering the question of his speed? In the novel, when that question was asked by their new priest how Tom's European team was wiped out only a week earlier and how Valek was here, with a new nest, now. Jack's answer was 'It depends on how many oceans are in their way.' So yeah, the masters are portrayed as rather quick...and the Hunters know it.

Liked how the Vatican sponsored the team of hunters that were former athletes, fighters etc. Jack Crow himself was described as being big and muscular and ornery. I also liked how the master was basically " destroyed" in the book. James Woods take on Jack Crow was the best part of the movie for me.

I like Castlevania's Lords of Shadow's version of how vampires and werewolves came to being. There was a holy order that were looking to ascend themselves. Everything good about them ascended, everything else about them was left behind thus the birth of vampires and werewolves. they even acknowledge them as their former kind, with all the memories and knowledge still retained.
I absolutely Love this Movie
James Woods is portrayed as an ass on Family Guy but I actually met him once. The hotel management company that ran the hotel I was a manager at had me go to a Howard Johnson's in Ohio and while I was there checking out there operations James Woods pulls in with two little dogs and rents a room. Super chill. We actually talked about this movie and how there were talks about a sequel. I think he just finished Any Given Sunday because he asked me a weird question about Pacino! Anyways that was that. He got a few menus from local places and left for his room! Cool guy! Btw.... Awesome video!
I always wanted a side story sequel following the Padre. An accompanying priest that has not only hunted but hunted several master vampires and the original at the same time. While usually the priest just stands outside and prays. It could be some years down the road with Padre as the grizzled veteran mentoring less experienced hunters and maybe even going in himself to show how it’s done now and again.
When they were fleeing the master vampire in the beginning, perhaps he caught up with them because of the woman becoming his progeny and he can sense where she's at by controlling her mind. That is not out of the realm of a master vampire. Plus, he was playing with her mind in the movie.
This is one of my favs. Thanks for posting.
