    Yeah, the first wave was so awesome I started waving all the time until my first "oh shit" wave moment: I was shifting gears down before a corner when a biker waved at me so I waved back and had to drop the clutch to do it which caused pretty massive engine breaking and I almost crashed then (yes, that was my first week on the bike so downshifting was veery slow and it could in fact end up with severe engine breaking if the clutch is released too fast). After that I wave back very consciously but in general yeah, I love this feeling, still remember the first "wave back" moment. And I still remember when on the traffic lights a guy stopped next to me and "offered" me a fist-bump! Even more awesome.

    I think mopeds get thrown off as way less dangerous than motorcycles when they’re really not. I’ve seen a guy on a moped turning into a business lot and a truck driver just ran him over and didn’t realize that he did for a solid couple of seconds. With the amount of blood around the asphalt I have no doubt that he’s dead. Probably still under that fucking truck.

    @@kylemartos1937 On normal roads, scooters/mopeds are probably even more dangerous than motorcycles, because they have the same level of exposure to traffic, and yet I have never seen a scooter rider wear any gear except a helmet. As a new rider, I can relate with the scare thing. I had a pedestrian try to run across a crosswalk earlier today when I was already close enough I probably shouldn't have stopped, but I ended up doing so anyway. I was super worried he was going to dart out in front of me. Going from 50km/h to 0 in only a few meters was terrifying for me, and I was amazed at how well my bike actually stopped that quickly.

  • @thcwub3387
    @thcwub33874 жыл бұрын

    "Getting scared shitless" was the one that really stood out for me. I've got a few months of riding under my belt now and have had a few tricky moments to navigate but one recently scared the life out of me and made me pull my head in. Riding at night down a road I had not ridden before, with no street lights and very little reflective details on the road. A long pin straight run at 80km/h. Towards the end there is a fairly sharp bend which was difficult to see coming on account of the dark, but worse you can't see just how sharp it is until you are in it. I picked up on the bend way too late, and only got a little front brake in before I was ultimately 'in the bend'. I remember thinking two things. "Fuck, I'm dead" was on a loop, and then MCrider came into my head saying "lean harder into the turn and trust your bike". Into the lean I went, went hard on the countersteer and.... perfect. Pretty sure shitting myself added +10 to my traction stat, and praying to our Lord & Savior Rossi may have granted me a moment of divine intervention. The heart was racing way too hard, and I was pooling in gooch juice, after that one. I pulled over, turned around, and went home; my planned destination be damned. Then made the trip the next night after learning the trip on google maps street view! Oh, and that was on a scooter; just to explain why hitting a bend at 80km/h wasn't the greatest of predicaments

    My first "is this all really worth it" moment was when I crashed. I had only been riding for a few weeks, just officially got my sv650s transferred into my name and what counts as winter in the PNW was nearly passed. I was going to work, taking an on ramp and I hit one of those annoying patches of gravel and sand that form and I slid high side into a concrete island, completely broke my front wheel, bent one of my fork tubes, busted my radiator and scraped some of the fairings(luckily my frame sliders did their job). After regaining my composure and I got the bike off the ground and was surveying the damage is when the thought hit me, fuck this isn't worth it, my wife is going to murder me, I will never see my daughter grow up if I keep this up! But the moment was fleeting after really focusing on the damage, the randomness of it all, how long I had been waiting for this bike and the memories of Harley Lyfe with my Dad and his family. And a few weeks of scouring Ebay, craigslist, Amazon and hours of labor later and I am so thankful that I brushed off the trauma of it all and kept going.

    Sadly gravel is just one of the many dangers, but at least an avoidable one. Best thing you can do, apart from getting back to riding, is making sure you're a lot more focused on hazards on the road surface like gravel, engine oil and similar. As someone else said, if there's a hazard on the road, it's normally right across the line you take on a motorcycle.

    First year riding was great!!! I dove into the world of riding with no formal practice on motorcycles but my common sense and practice on mountain bikes helped me have a lil taste on what the world of motorcycles was gonna be like... Well, that's what I thought lmao. Riding motorcycles are amazing!!! They are powerful and bring an overwhelming sense of joy. Yammie Noob really hit home when mentioning riding is a sense of freedom. Overall, I tell everyone they should definitely try it. While riding understand everyone has their own learning curve and always-ALWAYS be humble. My lil story of when I first went down (dont be afraid, all riders go down) I was showing off doing a superman on my fz07 down my residential street (to impress a girl behind me) to eventually getting surprised with 2 young kids running into the street without looking. I immediately jumped down to slow down n stear around them (up a drive way b/c a truck was on the other side) and my handle bars got locked aka went down. I was fortunate the kids were safe n I only got a sprained ankle with some road rash. Again, motorcycles are it's own beast. The community is great. Riders will judge you, have open arms, ignore you,... just like the real world, but focus on you. Learn your bike, work on your bike, and enjoy the process. Cheers!

    I bought my 250 KYMCO People Scooter (2005) 3 months ago. It didn't have a title. I'm 58 and on SSI. So, I had to pay for each part by the month. I would just start it up every other day and ride (slowly) around the block. 2 and 1/2 months later I finally get my tags, Ins, I'm still waiting for the title via mail. I took it for my 1st REAL ride on the interstate. Every seam on the road was terrifying. I could hear what EVERY person had said to me. Especially the one man who said, "Do you know what they call people who ride motorcycles?...Body Parts." I mean EVERYONE said "Oh My God! You got a Motorcycle?" And I replied as I still do. "It's a Scootercycle!" And they'd say, "You better be careful!" When I put my Helmet on I felt like an Astronaut. I knew how IronMan felt as he flew! I went an hour south, then an hour back. When I got home the reserve tank was boiling over. I had nearly blown the engine from overheating. So, I did a coolant flush with the new Honda coolant as KYMCO is Honda's Lil brother. Took it for a Most Bodacious ride and it overheated. Then, I put a new thermostat in, took it for a ride and it overheated. Then I put a coolant sensor in, took it for a ride...and yep, It overheated. I've now had her for almost 5 months and rode her 5 times. I'm putting her in the shop on the 1st as I'm out of tools and LUCK. I'm still a Noob and very scared but the feeling I get when I ride is unexplainable. I'm a KZread creator with a Home Studio. Yes, a musician. My name is Fred Minor , hence the LOGO...Fm Studio. Check out my music vids...I have plenty. I hope they find the problem. It's 60 dollars an hour at the shop. But more than that...I hope I never wreck. I love the storage capacity on the Scootercycle and the 250 is perfect for me as I am a lil dude. I'm watching all the vidz that I can and I just, I don't know, felt compelled to post something. Good Luck to all of you and as we used to say when I drove Taxi for 6 years (which made me a very good defensive driver) "Keep It On The Road!" Later Gatorz. Fm.

    Some riders in France, instead of waving, they the do "Le Leg". This is sticking your left or right leg out to the passing motorcyclist. The supposed reason is because it's safer than taking your hands off the bars when riding in the cities. Le Leg is also used to say _thank you_ to cars who pull over for you. On the open road, at highway speeds, it's more usual to wave.

Luckily I took an MSF course first and always ride in full gear. Also one of my favorite biker terms I learned is "chicken strips" which is the layer of fresh tire on the side of the wheel as a result of being too chicken to lean in all the way on a turn. But I started off with a Yamaha 650 vstar cruiser so leaning isnt a big deal.

    Emory Poole... I actually use a suit from viking cycles with the hood under my helmet, neoprene gloves (cattle birthing gloves work as well) ran over the lower part of your arm under the suit, and boot covers with a sole ran up my leg under the suit. I took quite a bit of time putting it together and I stay dry but I also only ride on road. I have ridden in heavy downpours with flash floods turning pastures and ditches into lakes encroaching on the road. The trick is quality items and large overlap to ensure all areas remain covered. I use my bike for commuting and trips and don’t like to get wet. The bike does though.

    I still remember my very first "wave" 8 years ago. Zipping around on a 175cc when a titan of a man on a massive HD waved. Was giddy with joy

    Owning a bike is like a gym membership you think you got a cheap deal but it builds up after time as you don’t notice.

    Ummm...bikes are cheap enough in india. And you don't need 100+ bhp for corner carving.

    Nice choice for the thumbnail. Love my crossplane! Mine is white too! Is it weird that I sometimes just stand in the garage staring at it?

    Literally one of the first times I took my DRZ400 to work, I had a crusty old badass biker dude on a Harley pull up next to me at a red light, he looked at my bike up and down and goes “that things fuckin badass.” I felt ten feet tall.
