Took me until 50 years old to as "yammie noob" puts it to "swing a leg over" a bike (I'd been pillion on my Dad's bike when I was 13). But there is nothing like it. In fact I don't mind going slower top speed on a bike than in a car, because the sensation of speed is oh some much more on a bike. But accelerating to the legal limit is oh so much fun.

How's it going 4 years later ?
I got my motorcycle license at 14 and am now 36. I learned the most about controlling a motorcycle in the 5 years I rode exclusively on race tracks. Before this I was 150+ MPH and knee down on the street. When I returned to street riding 2 years ago I purchased the slowest motorcycle I have owned since my first 125cc motorcycle. I've been down three times on the race track and came out unscathed, except for about 18 hours I can't remember. I have been extremely lucky to have never gone down on the street, but have had more close calls than I can remember. The best advice I can give to new street riders is, "YOU ARE INVISIBLE TO EVERY OTHER DRIVER ON THE ROAD". The best advice I can give to aspiring track riders is, "track days are a hell of a drug". People ask if I gave up track riding because it was hazardous to my health; I reply with "it was hazardous to my wallet". Be safe, have fun. Very entertaining video as always Yamm.

29 years here and still have to take a deep breath and a last look around the homestead before I heel up the kickstand in the morning before my commute. My riding mantra is "...to arrive at my destination unmolested." By cagers, cops or random crap. an old Hell's Angel told me this once, said it was the most important thing, the only problem is its never an issue on my 2017 Road Glide, literally - i just took her out for the first time this winter (i live on the Canadian border) and after sub zero fluctuating temps and not using it since November 20th the tire pressure was right where i left it.....and it did this last winter as well, i assume its due to the super rock hard touring tires and the fact that its not a sport bike? But my riding buddy who puts in about 30k miles a year rides a Triumph Trophy, and he never had any pressure check fails.

Motorcycles run in my family too. My grandfather, who is 84 years old used to race them back in the day. Mind you, he was born in 1934 so that's quite a long time ago. Just last year I got into riding, and that inspired him to get back on two wheels. My uncle ended up getting him a bike and putting essentially training wheels on it so that way he could get on and off of it. Watching an 84 year old man ripping down the Road at 55 miles an hour with a giant smile on his face is a memory I'll never forget. Unfortunately, up here in Upstate New York riding all year is simply not an option.

You seem a little late. I'd say since you're overdue so go for a quad turbo busa.
Just bought my 7th bike. A 2017 FZ-10 with only 382 miles on it! Been riding 39 years, and I'm 43 years old. Yes, I was riding within a couple years of walking. I got an FZ-10 because I'm not getting any younger and I want a bike that screams. I'm also smart enough to respect its power. Admittedly I will be constantly resisting the urge to go hooligan, and I won't always accomplish that goal. I will accept the risk. That said if you're a noob don't even think about a mentally insane liter bike to start on. You're going to do stupid stuff and win stupid prizes. This is a perpetual condition, a liter bike just raises the bar on the quality of your prize when you play. Experience brings better cost vs. risk analysis. An understanding of all the dichotomies of riding, like fast riders have slow hands, slow is smooth, smooth is fast, when in doubt throttle out yet fast riders use the brakes a lot etc.... Seems contradictory at times but it isn't. An old rider can play stupid games and mitigate the prize more than a beginner. You're never exempt from the exchange though. New riders are either too timid, or too fearless. The safest spot is a perfect blend of caution, and confidence that can't be taught. It's intuitive, and unique to each individual moment while riding. Find what you love, and let it kill you. Going out in a pool of blood screaming is better than fading away moaning in a pool of urine.
Been a while since I watched one of your videos Yammie, not for any particular reason other than I was busy. Good to be back!

I saw your London vid. That takes confidence and courage on an unfamiliar bike in the rain, especially on knobbly tyres. You became acquainted with black cab drivers and others trying to get to their destinations more quickly than you. You survived! I'm a beliveber. Complacency on my bike is the thing I fight all of the time - never lose focus. Or someone else will do it for you. Always acknowledge fellow bikers and ride safely (Aristotle).
Also the old Honda Cub motto " you meet the nicest people on a Honda." Motorcycling is all about the feeling the weightless freedom it gives and connecting with people. Great video bro.

I'm one of these "experienced" motorcyclists. (100.000km combined on a NC700 and CBR600RR) and i have to say you hit some valuable points. i hade the same "way too confident until first crash" phase. I also am always thinking about the next bike i want to own and best point for me: riding motorcycles is about meeting people. i hade so many conversations with complete strangers i just met on the side of the street etc.
I was 16 when i rode my Vespa 50S and have been overrun by a car violating a stop sign. I had the luck to survive with only some bruises my Vespa was ruined. Two days later I got on the Vespa knowing if i don´t do it i never will. I tried to ride it to a guy who was willing to buy what the first crash has left but when i arrived another car tried to kill me. Result - more bruises, a crashed helmet, Vespa wrecked. Long story short - the first crash taught me to be grateful and the second one was a humbling experience which guided me safely thru more than 3 decades of riding (motorcycles of course). I don´t wish anybody such an experience but by the same token i think people learn the most of it (well, not all but most :-) ) @ Yammie - like (most) of your videos and (most) of your insights - keep them coming and stay safe
There really is soooooooo much truth in this video that you only realize once you've been there, done that. As a seasoned rider, and now work in a bike shop, we really do try and pass on our experiences and dumb mistakes to try teach other riders our experiences. Really you don't get it until you've made the same dumb mistakes and lived to tell the tale, but hopefully we all hope if we can help just one rider we've won. Stay safe everyone, love the ride and you're fellow riders. No Matter what ride.

Yammie is like the pewdiepie of motovlogging I love it
Hey Yammie, good vid, all very true. I've been riding for almost 40 years now, I haven't been "down the road" for over 30 but yes I have been down. The correct number of bikes is 7 currently, maybe that will go up, or maybe down. So I ride 30-35000ks (thats 20,000 for our friends from the US), haven't been down for quite some time and the main thing I have learnt in all this time? I have so much more to learn! It never stops, I often muck up, I need to get better. A serious event is always close by so ride well all, think ahead, bank time by prepping for every intersection, cross road, corner, blind section etc. Keep safe, enjoy, savour and expect the possible (its possible there is some numpty parked around this corner) not just the probable or the expected.
I'm still amazed this guy is alive, let alone able bodied. I mean, there's low siding, there's high siding and then there's yammi siding. 🦅🦅🦅
Great one Yammie personally I’ve got 50 odd years under my belt and have club raced both dirt and track. Always remember you never stop learning, don’t bother with squid bullshit and simply enjoy your freedom. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Dailying a motorcycle can be quite dangerous due to everything he mentioned. BUT the funny thing is, where I live the most dangerous thing by far is the high chance of getting a gun pointed at your face while you have your two wheeled companion stolen, happened to me, happens to a lot of people.
You have to see the delivery boys here in Brazil. Pretty much everything here is delivered by motorcycle, and those guys kick ass.
LOL you have my dying with the “plenty of old and bald riders” 😂😂😂😂😂
Old saying - your not a real biker 'til you've dropped it. true experience comes from the mistakes. stay safe friends!
Quick advice from a former motorcycle safety instructor,,, Know your bikes limits, know your limits, ride within both. You have the rest of your life to get where you are going. Your helmet should only be worth what you think your head is worth.
You rock Sir.
Gotta say, respect to the Yam, the fact he stays humble about the Porsche crash and can joke about it is true show of character. Keep it up Yam!
