ABOUT THIS VIDEO
If you're too weak to do push-ups, don't worry. To get strong enough to do push-ups, you only need some simple push-up regressions you can do at home. By doing easier versions of the push-up, you can build arm strength slowly, gradually, and safely. As you get stronger shoulders, you'll get better at push-ups. And then you'll be able to do more advanced full range push-ups!

That my bench "push-ups" need to go lower. While I have your attention, where should my hands be in relation to, say, my shoulders as I do this. I was thinking last night (before I saw this video) that my hands might be too widely spread on the bench.

Me too, I hope we can do push up
I’ve been trying to do push-ups for years! My goal is to just get better at power yoga, which requires a lot of push-ups. Unfortunately I can barely do one on my knees, though I think I’m a little better at it than I was last year. Still, building strength is incredibly slow. I’ll try doing the counter top push-ups as you suggested to see if it helps.
i'll consider ur technique since i too couldn't do one proper pushup at some point, i was overweight and thought that's the reason so i got fit (the wrong way) and still couldn't do one. i started working out at the gym and i built some strength mainly on my chest, now i can do 4-5 proper pushups before starting to shake and fall on my face. looking forward to increase the reps and be able to do a full set
Thanks for this video, I totally can't do a single pushup😅 been struggling for so long

I can’t do a singular push-up anywhere, but I will try now!
Thanks
I've done them in the past, but it has been a long time. I was quite strong and fit in my 40's, and I just haven't kept up with it. In the past 2 1/2 years, I've noticed that I have become extremely week. It's time to get strong and fit again! At the age of 58, I am starting life all over and trying to reinvent myself! 😅 I just tried, using my bathroom counter. I was only able to do 10 in each set. I saw great muscle definition as I did them, though; so that was cool! I feel my chest muscles gave out before my arms.
Haha, yes I am weak, that's why I am watching this! 😊 I need to know how to do push ups.
I am 6 foot 4 and 130kg and have never done a push up and I just did 3 sets of 15 push ups against my kitchen counter. Can’t wait to be able to go lower. Thank you for the guidance ❤

Hi my name is James, can you please do a video on people with lower back injury's that suffer pain in both legs and the cause and the proper treatment. Thank you.
I do pushups on a pair of handles with my feet elevated on a chair but this didn't happen overnight. It took me 2 years to reach over 20 reps. In the beginning, I could only do 6 at most. I'm 64 & truthfully, I hated phys-ed in high school especially the dreaded pushup as it was used by my phys-ed teachers as punishment for not completing the 3-mile run. Yeah, I hate running too! It was after high school in my 20's that I got into fitness. Now when I don't feel like loading a barbell for bench presses, I look forward to feet elevated pushups! Much safer.
Do you have a video on proper push-ups form ? I don’t believe my form is correct! Thank you for your video

Hey! Good luck!
I have bad shoulders from working in a factory. I am great with leg exercises, but not with shoulder exercises.
I've tried for years to do a pushup with no success. Even with 8 years of teaching yoga. I have to try this!
my experience is that struggling to do pushups is down to not having done enough specific exercise to strengthen the chest muscles. What I did to build up strength in my chest was to do 10-20 incline pushups on the edge of my bath tub every time I use the toilet. Works great if you have the space in your bathroom!
omg i love it
Hi Matt, thanks for a fun and clear video. I was wondering whether you have any wisdom how to do proper push-ups if you have snapping ulnar nerves on both sides? There's zero pain involved if I only do a few, but would love to find a way to avoid the snapping altogether if that's possible at all? I can do the beginning part, or the end part - it's not really a strength issue, but just that mid part and it snaps... Thanks a bunch.🙏

I struggle with progressing my pushups because I have pain in my right wrist from the flexion, especially with added weight. Had X-rays done and it didn't show anything wrong. I do some PT exercises from Redefining Fitness and they do help, but I don't do them enough.
damn it you're so funny and informative
Good advice, but it didn't address my problem: my hands won't bend backward at the wrists any more. I went to urgent care with pain and swelling in one of them, and the X-ray revealed a ton of arthritis. (I didn't know that osteoarthritis could cause all that swelling.) Do you have any exercises to gradually try to liberate those joints?
Sir could you comment on exercises for those with a diastasis? (dudes with a diastasis). thanks
I couldn’t do an inclined push up at 20” March 23. I now do 3 x sets of 15 inclined. Still struggle with push-ups horizontal on the floor.
I have hEDS, POTS and am recovering from Guillain Barre Syndrome. I'm hoping your exercises will help me recover and be strong entering my 60's?
I just found you. What you said about being stuck in a cage that is growing ever smaller resonated; I hate it. I am going to gently get my body back... no narcotics, muscle relaxers, surgeries... and no excuses. I want to be free again. It's going to take time. Thank you. Be well.

How is everything going?

Hello I am training for the army and I can do only 6 pushups in one set… I need to do 35 in 2 minutes. Do you have any advice how to get maximum strenght? I have only 45 days till the tests.. Thank you!😊
Can you let me know where you are buying that low-to-the-floor furniture?
Well I am just starting to do push ups , but it is becoming difficult at times. I would try to do 10, bit end up doing 5 or 6, so that where I am at now.
Day 1 baby! Just did about 25+ total incline push-ups at the office now. The back of my arm just above my elbow is already slightly sore and my nose became slightly runny.
I am starting today or tomorrow 🎉
i have been doing weight training but dont see any change. just starting this push up method now and ill come back in about 2 to 3 weeks. see ya then!
Is there a right and wrong way for the elbows to be going?
I have plenty of strength. The problem is my wrist. I broke my navicular bone about 20 years ago and after casting for nine weeks, the bone had dissolved and was gone. It is extremely painful to support my weight on the right hand side. I can do them on an incline but I can't handle the pain of doing pushups on the floor. Before I broke my wrist I was able to do pushups with perfect form. No more. I don't have the range of motion. Maybe I should try doing them on dumbells?
I got so fat and out of shape that i couldn’t even do one push-up. Topped off with a broken wrist and damaged knees, became painful and difficult. I also realized i been doing them wrong my entire life with elbows out putting all the stress on my shoulders. For the last 3 weeks i been doing starter incline/wall pushups everyday 100 reps to gradually build back my strength and form (elbows in). I been using the perfect push up hand grips but last few days my elbows started hurting and i realized, for one i was putting a lot of tension in my wrist, and two got me wondering if these “perfect pushup grips” cause this to happen since i am no longer pressing down but gripping down? would love to hear your feedback 🙌
As a 13yo, I am really jealous that my friends are able to do full pushups unlike me who can do half a pushup, just saw this vid, let me see if this will help!
what about if someone had their arms twisted and fractured along with their spine, how can they do a pushup?
finally a tutorial where the teacher actually listens and reconizes the struggles of people who cant do pushups. Its not motivating when a very large, muscular guy says "Oh it's easy", and proceeds to do 20 infront of you and says "now you try" They dont understand that people can be built with weak bodies or no experience
i was abel to do a pushup but then i had knee surgery at 10 year old im now 12 and stil cant do a pushup but now im working on it
This is my first day doing this and i can do 10 reps but i can go down just not up…I will reply to this every week until i master pushups.🎉
What to do if I have tendonitis in my forearm/ wrist area?
Do you have any alternatives if you don’t have space in your house to do that technique?
1:38 idea on how i should start a push up ❤ Start from this position
Just starting, from table height, with one rep of 15. Well, it’s a start. Hey, I’m 65 🤷🏽♀️
Hi I have just started doing push ups when I do them I just can't get up. I am really struggling
Thanks for the video! I have trouble bending my wrists in a push-up position long enough to complete a set before they start hurting. Is there any way to do push-ups that isn’t so hard on the wrists?

April 13, I can barely do a set of 10 proper pushups. I get back here in a month.
I went from not being able to do 1, to do 3 sets of 3 in 2 months and after 6 months I'm able to do 3 sets of 15, and although may range of motion is good it could improve. I practice twice a week.
What can I do if I have mangled up carpal bones in both hands
I’m overweight and I can’t do a single push-up. At least I can do an incline on the stairs
I have a question. Your arms are positioned straight back when doing push-ups, my arms want to go to the side? Should they positioned exactly how you have them? I have not done push-ups in a long while......would like to start out the way you are presenting them.
@alesto3779
Жыл бұрын
It's okay if they go to the side, but it's not good if the elbows go too far out. It is best to do it 3 times a week 4-5 sets (2-3 min break between each set) as many repetitions as you can but don't force yourself to failure. In a month you will already see changes in strength and body. Consistency is the key! :)
Wish you could also tell us what to do when we can't do burpees:))

I'm over eighty, and I've never been able to do pushups. It was a constant fear of mine when I was in Basic Training that the NCO in charge would one day order me to do ten pushups in front of the entire company. That would have been humiliating.
