My 2020 model 3 long range all wheel just started doing it. Went on you tube. Watched your excellent video. Can’t thank you enough. Take care. Bob
Same same. I have 2019 Model 3 AWD. Get ready to drop about 1,200.00😮 Not to mention it’s a bad PR problem. HiTech car that immediately sounds like an Impala. When mine was inspected they had to replace upper and lower. You should also mention this will require an alignment which is why I opted to have Tesla do it instead of doing the DYI route
Thanks again for this video. Just had the front left and right replaced. Covered under warranty today.
Thanks so much for the video! One question, is this issue happening only on Dual Motor models or on both Dual Motor & RWD models?
Thank you for not making me watch a 30 minute video JUST to get to "this is not a safety" issue.
Do you think that the Hansshow screen can void in some ways the warranty?
The picture you showed for the upper control arm is the mtn pass performance aftermarket upper control arm (nice ones by the way). When this issue happens to my model 3 , I’m going to jig it up (or 3D scan) and make a replacement upper arm out of billet aluminum , that pivots on 7/8” heims (replaces the bushings) , and a 1” uniball (replaces the ball joint). Should be strong enough to send it , and also allow for ultimate camber adjustment. The stock upper arm is a stamped steal part with plastic reinforcement insert . Strong enough I guess and cheap for factory to make .
Thanks Always interesting Cheers
Thanks for a great information...my 2019 model 3 performance started with this noise 2 weeks ago it's too annoying. Tesla apt. Next week. Hopefully they replaced it both and all parts that makes this function.
just scheduled my FOURTH time to have my MY fixed... the solve of not driving with my windows down to not hear the sound is not sufficient.
Literally had this happen to me 2 weeks ago with an appointment next week. I temporarily fixed the problem and it's holding up so far.

what did you do to fix it?
@timangie4538
2 жыл бұрын
@@CfTesla a syringe filled with 0W-20 motor oil and a needle on the other end to bleed it injected it into the top of the control arm. After the injection turn the wheel entirely to the left and right a few times and a little time noise been gone ever since.

@@doinitlive3015 I did eventually get service about a month later but, it was holding up until the repair was done under warranty. I was tempted to cancel the appointment but, was thinking about the long term.
I had to have the back window replaced in my 2018 Model 3. While Tesla service was doing that repair they silicone coated the control arm bushings to prevent this issue.

Upper control arm
Had it happen after I brought my 2019 M3LR after they grease them because of a recall last year. They had to replace mine under warranty.

No problem unless you start to hear a metalic sound then you must attend to that asap. (Sorry about that fat finger syndrome)
It’s actually not always the upper arms. I’m dealing with this situation right now (actually the last 6 months). Took it in they replaced the upper arms. Still making noise. Took it back a month later, replaced the arms again. Still making noise. Now I have a bit of an advantage being I’m a mechanic. I had an open lift one morning so I threw it up and started looking and after a shit ton of looking finally finding the culprit and it was the lower arms (the one’s towards the back of the car) the bushings were ripped and it was the source of the noise. Took pictures of they exact part that needed replacing as well as the worn bushings in them and sent in a service request. Once again still making the noise I just got done putting it on the rack again and discovered they once again replaced the wrong parts. Despite me sending them pictures they replaced the forward of the front wheel lower arms instead of the rear of the front wheel ones (compliance arm bushing’s). So once again making another service appointment to have it fixed (hopefully they’ve run out of arms to replace so they will actually do the right ones this time). If the car wasn’t still under warranty I would have just done it myself which I’m debating on doing anyway. In their defense however it’s highly temperature dependent. 60 degrees and above and it doesn’t make much noise I had a hell of a time tracking it down myself. 59 and below and it’s like a rusty gate hinge and it turns heads on the other side of a Walmart parking lot. It always happens to be warm when I get an appointment. The bushings are torn in half now so I don’t know how they could miss it but I took more pictures with giant red arrows pointing to the offending part as well as pictures of the part numbers stamped on each. I still haven’t decided if I’m willing to waste another day giving them another chance to fix it or just eat the cost and do it my dam self.

Any idea how much Tesla charges if it's not under warranty?

1200 give or take. You do it yet ?
Wondering at approximate mileage this happens and cost for Tesla to do it. If you DIY, assume you have to go to Tesla for parts? Call lock SC for parts?

I am at about 40k miles. From what I have gathered there are aftermarket parts for this not just Tesla. I don't know what they charge because mine was fixed under warranty.

My 2020 MY with 23000 miles just started doing this. I mean, like nothing then loud enough squeak to bark over the cranked up stereo in the course of a week. But then again, Ohio roads are a wreck, so there's that which probably contributed to the issue.

2020 Model 3 w/33,000 miles...started last week & getting louder. Service appointment is 23 days away.
My gear stalk is squeaking and nobody seems to have experienced this lol.
I feel a little better now knowing it's not a safety issue. Tesla has no appointments for 3 more weeks for me
I have the same issue my front tire is squeaking on bumps. The Tesla service claims that it's the LATERAL LINK and it isn't covered under the warranty it's a wear and tear issue. They are charging $700. Does this sound right? @cftesla
I had it taken care of 2 years ago on my 2018 Model 3. However, it’s starting again and Tesla mobile service is coming to my house next week to fix it. My warranty ends in September.

Had some of the worst experiences of my life with Chevy, Ford, Porsche.. a squeak in an upper control arm that they'll fix under warranty is NOT a problem. Only one quality on par would be Toyota, have had a 2012 Prius C since new, still runs like a champ, only ever changed the oil in it.
