Tesla Brakes squealing? Here's the fix! How to get rocks from dust cover
The model 3 has a brake disc cover that surronds the cars inner disc of the brake (rotor) and sometimes rocks get lodged inside. Here's a fast fix. Use caution as the brakes may be hot.(see more below)

The debris gets embedded directly between the rotor and the heat shield making an unbearable noise. When it first happened to me I thought my car was done for :)
Thanks for watching and see you again soon!

Holy crap, I just had this happen on my 2 week old Tesla and thought for sure something was messed up or broken. After going back and forth and turning the wheel it stopped and my wife said she saw a rock fall out - but to actually see this and hear that noise on your video makes me feel a whole lot better about it. Thanks for recording this!
So happy to find your video! This happened to me and my husband and we thought something drastically wrong had happened! Couldn't figure it out until we watched your video. After several quarter-turns of the wheel, we finally got a very small pebble to drop out and then all was well.... Thank you!
you saved me dude thank you!!! pushed the dust cover back and rock fell out!
Thanks for this! You saved me from waiting over a month for a service appointment in Dallas. My rear wheel (or I thought axle) was screeching so loud on my 2021 model 3! Followed what you said and got some little asphalt debris out in a only a couple minutes. Thanks again!
Thanks for the video Mark. With your explanation I was able to remove a small rock between the dust shield and rotor and avoid a trip to the service center.
Mark, you saved my bacon today, I haven't had a service issue in 3 years but got the dreaded metal on metal squeal today and thought my luck had run out. It took a while to work the stone loose but it dropped just like in your video. Thanks for posting and making my day much better.
This video is a saver of my time and stress. Just got my model Y tesla fixed with the help from this video.
Also got this issue on my Model Y. I was panic and ready to call the rescue. While I parallel parked my car by driving forwards and backwards several times, the noise was gone. Then I watched your video, and knew the reason. Now I'm confident to drive my Tesla again. Thanks for the helpful video.
This worked! A tiny rock was making a ton of noise! Thank you so much for the video
You’re a life-saver! Actually had a slightly larger stone stuck in my Model S that wouldn’t dislodge with just this method. So I ran a zip tie between the disc and cover to surround the rock while I torqued the disc cover, then it came right out!
Mark is a life saver, my brand new tesla with less than 1000 miles started having this issue and i was super concerned. Luckily, I was able to dislodge 1 small pebble from the edge of the rotor which was making the loudest screeching noise.
Thanks a lot! It saved me a service journey!
Thank you for posting this. I had the same issue inside it like I had a coat hanger stuck in there and thankfully it was just a pebble in the metal shroud behind the break easily pressed against and was able to get the stone the size of a pea out
Thanks so much! This saved me from a Tesla service call. I had to work a rock out from between the inner rotor and cover using a bent safety pin (I hope this is safe for the car).
This happened with my husbands Tesla today. It sounded terrible! When I came across this video I just knew it wouldn’t be this simple. It was!! Thank you so much for posting this video. You’re a life saver!
Thank you!
This video saved us tonight! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for this, exactly what happened to our yesterday, worked perfectly!
Saved me so much hassle, thanks for the video! Got it out in a minute!
Awesome video, Mark! Thanks for the quick fix! 🙏🏻
Great video. Huge help!
[UPDATED] You're the man if this works! Will report back tomorrow!! Ty for the tesla self help content. I was about to rip into the caliper
Thank you!!!
Helpful video, and I thought I was the only one with the rusty things in the center of the wheel
That was it! Thanks for posting. Took me 10 seconds.
Thank you so much!
I was scared to continue driving today with the sound. You saved me money and time today, bro! There was a small piece of glass stuck. Fixed in 1 min with your approach. Lifesaver advice!

Thank YOU FREAKING MUCH!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! This was happening to me and I thought it was a wheel bearing while traveling a long ways from home and that was really bad!! P.S. Put keywords in the title like "tesla model 3 tire squealing" because I searched that and couldn't find anything!

Welcome mojito!
Dude! I had this problem. My fix, take off tire, spray with garden hose, go into roll mode, role backwards a.k.a. "drive" backwards 200M. Done. I like your fix better! Will try next time... Then the way they get in, the rocks.... ...in my case, TM3 LR w/ Perf Boost, I went from 0 to 50 KMH very fast while turning. I am going to guess that the gap may open in this case, rock was in rear right wheel assembly....
Thank you. You saved me a trip to Tesla.

How many miles before you think that groove you were referring to develops?
Happened to me the first night. Does this happen often?
I don’t like the scratches that the aero wheel covers cut into our beautiful alloy wheels. It must be the bare metal clips that Tesla uses? I wish that they were plastic coated, but then they might not hold on as well.
Thank you. I just had this issue. It sounded like I got coat hanger stuck in my wheel. Thankfully it was a pea-sized pebble
My model Y only has this noise while reversing, does it mean the rock are on the rear wheel?
Hello Mark very useful vid indeed. hey, I noticed you tinted your windows ! looks super awesome ! Can you inform what light percentage you went with ? Cheers.
@MarkDickinson

jigax07 I believe they’re legal, 28 percent in Florida and the tint is ceramic with black interior.

@@MarkDickinson Ok thanks for your quick answer :-) Different here, legally we have to stick to 70% transparency for the front windows whereas rear windows can be completely opaque as far as I know ...
@MarkDickinson
4 жыл бұрын
@jigax07 That's pretty much the same, thats about 72 percent transparent. 28% i believe is the amount of light it blocks.
Who thumbs down a helpful video

Boy do I wish I had seen this video 48 hrs ago. Long story.
Was hoping this was the issue with my wife’s model 3. It squeaks every time when braking at low speeds particularly when backing out of garage or parking space. The car is garaged daily so not sure what’s causing it. It’s quite embarrassing as people always notice the noise. My model 3 has never squeaked. Anyone know what may be causing this?

I had the same squeaky problem each time o backed out of my garage. Following the tip on this video, I removed all the caps on all 3 wheels and agitated the dust plate and lots of sand fell out AND a large stone. No more squeaking! Give it a go if you haven’t already.
I have this similar sound on right real wheel. I tried to tab on this guard. The rock did not come out.. fuck me…
Tesla's official advice on this is to hit the breaks really hard because they say it's dust. I'm pretty sure they don't hire actual mechanics.
I never had such an issue until I bought a Model Y. I have a 2-min "offroad" drive on a daily basis from home. Small rocks are getting stuck in there almost every single day. This is obviously a bad design from Tesla. I will report this and if anything gets damaged during waranty, I will blame it all on Tesla.
You’re name isn’t even Mark, it’s James.
Give it some gas? Lol
