Research shows well meaning parents are over-medicating their children when they go down with a fever and in some cases are doing more harm than good.
The Royal Children’s Hospital surveyed more than 2000 parents, with 80 per cent falsely believing they should lower a high temperature, and nearly half thought if left untreated, a fever could cause death.
Paediatrician Dr Anthea Rhodes says many myths drive parents to over-medicate, which is not recommended.
