    My older brother and I are gonna get kittens in 2 weeks because we asked our parents if we could have kittens. Obviously since we're are gonna get kittens in 2 weeks, they said yes. I have told my parents and older brother information I already knew about them and what they needed but watching this video helps me learn more before getting the kittens.

    just about the dry food thing, in moderation, dry food is fine . it's cheaper than buying meat / wet food for cats all the time and will stay fresh longer . overall, it has little bad impacts . i would recommend giving your cat dry food half the time and wet food / meat the other half . if you can't afford non-dry food , it's ok, you just need to make sure they drink a lot of water

    There are a lot of dietary research for felines that explain how their bodies are not meant to process carbohydrates well. They are obligate carnivores and require protein found in meat as their main energy source. As for teeth health, raw meaty bones are a healthier alternative and just as effective to scrap off tartar if comparing to kibble. I do agree it’s cheaper but it is quite a statement to say dry food has little bad impacts when there’s a universal understanding for many cat owners that most dry foods is comparable to fast foods for humans as it’s cheap, easy to prep, but has a lot of negative impacts on our health.

    Please don't spread false information. There's nothing good about feeding your cat dry food. The pet food companies make food for convenience, otherwise we wouldn't have this many pet owners. Enough to see how some companies add milk into the feed even though all cats are allergic to it... Research more and don't trust only random comments on KZread that say dry food is not bad for your cat. IT IS BAD FOR YOUR CAT.

    I also watch Jackson Galaxy and his recommendation for open litter boxes. My Baby Ragdoll would be a year old in five days. I bought a large open litter box for the first few month then decided to buy a Modcat XL litter box. I have the top and front of it open. My cat absolutely loves it and I do too. He jumped in it as soon as I took it out of the box. He protects it with every fiber of his being LOL. he jumps in if I try to move it , he did this morning. I put it in a place where he has space around it. I think like people cats are different too.

    I actually use wood pellets for stoves as cat litter. They’re very inexpensive and I haven’t had any issues with the smell, quite the contrary! I also use a sifting litter box, the pellets become dust with the urine and I only have to shake the litter box every day and remove the dusted pellets from underneath the sift.

I think I'll give back real meat, I thing that is really healthier. For the litter, I can have free sawdust. In this times they often go outside in thé gardien with a long Leach si they need less. I have so many scratch posts and cat trees so ideally dont want to double up on things.

    Hi, I've read that cats prefer uncovered litter boxes because they prefer to have full awareness of their surroundings and don't like a feeling that they could be cramped or easily trapped. What is your view on this? I see you have a very big nice litter box, but that it's covered. We are getting a kitten soon and are trying to make the best choices in products.

  • @TheCatButler

    @TheCatButler

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good questions! And you are a very thoughtful parent. I looked into this as well. I found a study based on vet research that 70% of cats don't have preference of either litter box. You do bring a good point of the litter box needing to be big. The litter box needs to comfortably fit your cat so they don't feel cramped or easily trapped. The litter box I use is a XL sizes so its quite spacious. My cats are now close to fully grown and the litter box is still too big haha. So the one thing you will encounter as a cat owner is litter tracking. With an uncovered litter box it will spread all over the house. A covered one helps reduce litter spread significantly. I go over this my litter video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eIqktNuogsjYd5M.html I hope this helps!

    I used both an uncovered and top entry one for my kittens, they used both with no issues at all. It’s a larger one so they can move and turn around no problem with space to spare. I also use Sustainably Yours cat litter. After I dump the litter out completely and refill they love to dig at it for fun, so if I didn’t have a closed box it would end up everywhere. Unless a cat is starting to have behavioral issues and is going outside the box I see no need to worry about open or closed. Just scoop the litter often at least once a day and change it out every 2-3weeks. I scoop twice a day and wash and refill the box often.

  • @TheCatButler

    @TheCatButler

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good question! The thing I find with some of the cheaper pet insurance is they have too many hidden rules and restrictions preventing you from getting money. Or the customer service is non existent or just not too good. I made a pet insurance video here going into the mundane details in need to watch out for! kzread.info/dash/bejne/mZqG2bGyd5fSnc4.html The pet insurance I would recommend is Nationwide or Trupanion, but only their best plan. The cheaper plans do skimp out on a lot of key features. Otherwise if the pet insurance is too expensive, its better off saving money in a bank account for emergencies. A cat is going to need to go to the doctors and expenses can be very expensive. But I list all the details in the video. Hope that helps!

    While I agree with most of your recommendations, I truly think you forgot who the human is in this relationship! Seriously, you truly are the servant of your cats - instead of them being your pets! Brushing a cat's teeth? Truly? The last cat I owned (well, ok: My parents owned the cat!) lived 20 years or so (so yeah, she got old - despite not being a purely indoor cat!) and didn't lose her teeth and no, nobody ever brushed her teeth! She lost her sight (got a thorn into one eye and the other wasn't working well either in her old age), wasn't the most agile anymore (no more "impossible" jumps if you don't have good vision and/or depth perception), but otherwise she was a feisty beasty to the end!

    Stainless Steel is best type of bowl as its easy to clean and unbreakable. Glass is okay, the only con is that it can break. Hope that helps!

    Another kitten does help a lot. Before we got another kitten I was playing with the only one a few times a day. Plus I provided her with multiple cat trees and interactive toys and tunnels. I felt bad though because I couldn’t play with her the way another kitten would. It’s barely any extra work, and after I play with them they play with each other. If you can’t get another kitten I recommend extra playtime together, a few times a day at least 15 minutes each. It will help with extra energy. Also enrich the environment for them more so they aren’t bored.

    @@TheCatButler I love your cat tree, as soon as I first saw one of your videos it’s the first thing I noticed! Well no, that’s not true… the first thing was the cuteness of Teemo and Arya, of course 😻 Sadly it only ships in the US (this is a common problem 😹) as well as being suuuuper expensive… though the DIY kit option is a lot more affordable (in comparison to the pre-made trees, not to “normal” cat trees! 😅). Looks like they’re having supply chain issues at the moment too, with foliage not being available for 4 months… so for anyone who does get one, their cat tree will be naked for a while 😸 There’s nothing else out there that compares to this, in terms of looks and functionality… I found a couple of bespoke artisan cat tree makers in the UK, but to my eye they still don’t come close to the one you’ve got. I’m (hopefully 🤞🏻) on the brink of getting a kitten, and at the moment I think I’m leaning towards getting a tree from Cat Tree King/RHR Quality; either the “Royalty Plus” model or “Royalty de Luxe”. I need it to have a fairly small footprint (but it can be as high as the ceiling… though I’m only planning on getting one cat at the moment* so I don’t need it to have loads of levels and options), be sturdy enough for a Maine Coon, have proper sisal integrated scratching posts, have a high up comfy sleeping area (and I also love those bucket-shaped circular hammocks as a place they can feel cosy and snuggled up in! Two of my friend’s cats are big fans of these hammocks too), as well as a place to sit and look out the window (figuring out how to rearrange my living room/home office to make this possible, and feeling like I might have to move my desk and give up the window seat so my cat can better watch the birds and squirrels in the tree right outside! 😹). There are a lot of temptingly affordable “dupes” on Amazon, but from reading the reviews I don’t think I trust them to be resilient enough - it would be so terrible for one of the platforms to give way while my cat is sleeping on it! Seems like a surefire way to create anxiety and mistrust, both in the supposedly safe and secure sleeping place, as well as in me the cat parent! 😿 This absolutely seems worth spending £200 to avoid… though I think I’d still be happier if I could double that cost and get the beautiful Sycamore cat tree like yours, which I’d enjoy looking at a whole lot more! * I know two kittens are better than one… the aforementioned friend (and ex-boyfriend, which makes some of my later points make more sense in context! 😸) initially added one kitten (Simba) to a house with a 7 year old cat (Snow), and the kitten was an absolute terror wanting to play all the time (entirely reasonably kitten behaviour!), and the mature cat was really unhappy and wanted to be left alone. After 4 months (with most of that time having the two cats segregated except while under supervision, because the extremely careful and gradual introductions didn’t take away from how much Simba wanted to play and pounce, and how much Snow did NOT want that!) he got another kitten (Mango - from the same breeder, and same sire and dam - not quite a litter-mate, but a sibling!) which helped restore calm and happiness to everyone involved! Simba was such a high-energy kitten that he really needed a playmate, and Mango completely fit the bill. She’s a lot more calm and chill than him, and maybe that also helped Snow come to terms with sharing his domain with other cats, by her being a “nicer” cat than Simba, from Snow’s perspective! Snow was previously the perfectly chilled out and well-behaved cat - didn’t mind when people came over, including for parties, and he’d just find somewhere quiet if he didn’t want attention (but was never scared or upset by visitors, just very tolerant and content), was no trouble at all at night, didn’t wake you up or demand attention… then in the morning he’d just come and sit politely either outside the bedroom door, or sometimes come in and stare at his human from the floor if he didn’t approve of the late breakfast 😹 And would jump up on the bed when invited for morning snuggles and purrs. Simba and Mango will snuggle and wash each other as well as play and wrestle together, and while Snow doesn’t join in with any of that, he’s now at least happy to be in proximity to them, without getting angry/scared and hissing and growling at his humans (which was a very upsetting time! 😿), and is back to spending a lot of quality time with his human on the sofa, and is constantly purring again 😻 Since I’ve already recommended two cat Instagram accounts on this video, one more for luck 😺 instagram.com/fluffy_sharp - Snow is the white and orange, Mango the orange tabby, and Simba the cream :) Totally got distracted here giving you my cat-life story… 🤦🏻‍♀️ the reason why I’m only planning to get one kitten is because I live in a small flat, so two seems like maybe too much cat for the space available. I have neighbours on my floor with a 2 bedroom flat compared to my 1 (as well as a fully fledged balcony - with a securely fenced in catio area! 😻so jealous!) and while they do have 2 (Ragdoll!) cats as well as 2 people, they say it’s borderline not enough space. Also, I’m home essentially all the time (and work from home as well), so I have plenty of time to dedicate to entertaining my cat and playing with them. I’m also hoping to do some harness-and-leash training and take my cat out into the park next to my flat, and since there’s only one of me I would only realistically be able to take one cat out at a time, and the idea of leaving one cat home alone while I go out with the other seems very mean! I do feel like my resolve of “just the one” could slip though… especially as I’m in love with two of the kittens from the litter I’ve got my eye on and expressed interest in, and this would also mean not having to choose! 😹 Though more difficult to wrangle two kittens with just the one of me… ever since my neighbours once let their cats out into the hallway under supervision, they are now obsessed with getting out and exploring! There’s only a long and fairly featureless corridor they can run up and down, with 5 other flats besides the two of us, so there’s very little trouble they can get into… but I do fairly often hear shouts from the hallway when the cats have made a break for freedom and just one of my neighbours is trying to get in through the door and contain them 🤣 I get to share in this particular fun time because I cat-sit for them whenever their humans are away! 😸😹😸 Not sure how the other 5 flats on our floor would take us turning the hallway into a communal cat social area… 😇 I’ve taken up more than enough of your time with this comment already! 😳 I appreciate all the brilliant info you share - I’ve got the PetKit Eversweet 3 water fountain in my basket, because I am 100% in the market for a quiet and reliable cat fountain with stainless steel instead of plastic! I’m sure that won’t be the only thing I buy from your recommendations 😂 And I hope your Amazon affiliate links still work if I click through from .com to co.uk!

    Haha, oh no - sometimes when I write long comments on KZread, I save them in a kind of digital diary… when I went to save this one, I noticed I’ve already said much of the same thing to you in a comment from 2 months ago 🙈 “The fact that I’ve written my cat-life-story here, in what I thought was just going to be a short comment, probably highlights just how much I’m trying to justify my decisions and my situation to myself as much as to anyone else” - says it all, really! 😹 At least the things I’m saying now are at least consistent with what I said then?! 🤣
