The the first 2 games are great. I really like the way you could load your save from ATL1 to ATL2. You got to keep your levels, items, and abilities. A nice touch, that you didn't see often back then.

i was thinking about picking up these games on the ps3 store, but unfortunately one isn't on there, just 2 and 3. i would think loading your end game character stats into 2 would make the game too easy anyhow though.

Jack M no it doesnt. i think the level cap in 1 is 50 and the arc the lad 1 characters dont join you until your close to that level area. i think. also, not all the characters figt with you together in the beginning. i never experienced an issue. i think the game creators took this into consideration and made it work.

that's the way i feel about kingdom hearts 3. luckily for me it's easy to wipe from my memory because nothing about it was memorable for me at all, besides how insanely bored i was from start to finish.

Twilight was one of my favourite rpg games on the ps2 brings back so many memories

There isn't enough people out there that know of these games and a lot of the great jrpgs you talk about in your videos. Its refreshing to see some content on awesome games lost to time. Nostalgia for sure, would 110% play ATL again.

love the "what the hell happened series". Im one of the few that bought the arc collection for ps1. Keep up the great work. I find it very interesting and nostalgic watching these vids.

Good video. It's always nice to see those that appreciate such a rare gem series that is Arc the Lad. I've played the original trilogy on my channel and had started playing the 4th on stream before life got in the way. Never beat the 4th one. I remember getting to the final boss and then screwed myself because I didn't have the right equipment to survive his attacks and at that point I couldn't go back. 5th one however I'm having a hard time getting into it. It was definitely meant for multiplayer which is rather sad. I really wish there were and English patch for the Wonderswan one, I want to play that one so bad. Anyways, you may be right about the upcoming one not getting a global release. We can only hope and pray that they find a way to bring it over. Also, have a sub. You've earned it!

I m a collector of this game since the 2006, I have all the series, spin off, accessories, premium box, all demos and stuff like that. Now, whit those dammit release of Arc The Lad for mobile my collection is no more a masterpiece because I can't get a physical copy of the game to put in my collection. And what can I add... It is only in Japan for now!!! BTW at the same time I m really happy about that because, with the PS4 remastered of Twilight of the spirits and then with this new arc the lad means that nobody will never forget that masterpiece of my childhood.

I had the 1-3 Deluxe Boxed Set, with a leather character guide and model airship! I had never heard of it until I bought it. I loved it!

They used to sell imported games where I lived, and I came across Arc the Lad 1 early in the PS1 lifespan. I have so many great memories of the game. Even though it was in Japanese, the plot was simple enough to follow. All of my friends liked it as well and when Arc the Lad 2 was released a year later, we bought it right away and boy was it a sequel done right! I played Arc the Lad 3 when it was released with the collection, but I didn't like it as much as the first 2 games and I hated the PS2 games, the characters just never appealed to me. I wish later games stuck with the formula of the first 2 games. I still play the early games from time to time. Thank you for making a video about this franchise. I hope more people appreciate the gems that are 1 & 2.

Nostalgia, i used to own that arc the lad collection. I wish i still had it too.

I really liked 1, but 2, man, not enough words to describe how much I loved 2. Being a shining force lover, this filled the void for me 3 was alright, it was a game they made out of part 2s job side quest. Twilight was alright Then end of darkness came along. I knew the franchise had died. I'll forever treasure my ATL collection

love this series i played arc the lad 1 and 2

Arc the Lad ToS also came out when FF 10 came out so that also contributed to ot flying under the radar.

Remember, that when the PS2 came out, you were able play PS1 games on it as well, so the "Reason" it didn't sell as well because of the PS2 being big......really isn't a strong one. I know I bought it....still have it too.

If you have a PS3 or Vita you can buy the ROMs from the PS Store for $21.96 US + sales tax. You can also buy Twilight of the Spirits for the PS4. Since I already bought it I have no idea how much it costs, and unlike when you buy normal PS4 games it doesn't show you the price once bought.

I actually bought the collection when it came out and still have it.

You should do streams you have a good personality for it. Kinda remind me of my older geeky brother who got me into anime, games, and computers.

WTH man, I refuse to call this bunch of crap to be released on cellphones as an Arc the Lad series! IMO, Arc the Lad 2 was a masterpiece. Great video, man!

Thank you, these videos are not reviews, it's just my opinion on what happened to the franchises and a little objective investigation added to them.

I love the Arc the Lad Trilogy. I didn't try the PS2 games but I love the atmosphere and gameplay of the 3 Arc the Lad games. I couldn't stop playing this games until I finished them. My favourite games with Breath of fire series as rivals. It's a shame that both franchises went on the bad route of the mobile phones industry. I hope one day they will rethink things and try to open to other systems and other regions.

Pretty much.

I loved Twilight of the Spirits, I knew nothing of the rest of the games in the series; what I did find a bit ridiculous though, was when the main villain said the word "dark" so many times, like: 'now, with the dark energy, and the dark pact, I summon the dark power-' 'Not enough darkness' -IGN But the way you got to see how both main characters grew in very different environments, to eventually clash and cooperate, was pretty uncommon in video game rpgs at that time; and because of that, it was pretty cool.

I liked Twilight of the Spirits which inspired me to buy End of Darkness even though I didn't realize it was nowhere near as good.

I always got working designs stuff; I miss them; try Elemental Gearbolt (PS1); not exactly an rpg though

This really is a depressing video series when you think about it. "What the HELL happened to *every JRPG you ever loved?!*

Whelp ive watched this video in the past. Was great then still great. But with all the other videos you made such as tactic ogre 1 i had low hopes that any of these games would come back. But it seems like the games from yesteryear are coming back. My big hope is arc the lad 3. But i would take any of the first 3 games remade.

And also to bring other villians too not just the dark one

I've only played the fourth one for the PS3 and I loved it! I'm pretty sure I'll like the other ones for the PS1 as well when I finaly play them. Great games, but none are RPGs, though a lot of people seem to think they are.

Arc the Lad 2 is the hardest goddang SRPG ever but that's why I love it, it's also long AF.

1:19 The internet has sincerely become funny once again. But ya, played the ps1 5-disk collection (something about multi-disk disk games during the ps 1 era and knowing you were gonna be on a looong journey...those were the days...) Really enjoyed 1 & 2, especially the music. Hope they make another in that style someday. Side note- anyone remember that jazzy club in Indigos, song ‘music man’? Good times...

Considering the fact that it was released 5 years ago, I think you can find a PS4 with a really moderate price. Maybe even hacked one, to play more games easier. I am from Russia and I completely understand your struggle with prices for games or consoles. Russia is rather poor country, so like I said, I perfectly understand you. But now, I guess it is possible to find kinda cheap PS4. I really look forward to you videos about PS4 JRPGs!

twilight was goodish, but 2/3 were really great. 3 was a breath of fresh air and is with grandia and skies of arcadia one of the best "young boy go on a adventure" for me. btw, the next game just looks like bravely default or ff world. graphical identity much?

I own the collection, Twilight of the Spirits, and End of Darkness. I absolutely loved this series, with the second one being my favorite. Twilight was pretty good, and I'd be happy to play it again. End of Darkness is one of the worst games I've ever played, and it killed the series. It makes Bujingai look good.

would/could you do a ( what happened to chrono cross ) i rly loved that game, and i am sure many people would feel the same thanks.

I kind of already did it whenever I've spoken about it. Cross is my favourite videogame of all time, after all. The problem is that many people think it's a sequel to Trigger, when it's actually not. The creator himself said: "people need to stop thinking this game is a sequel to Trigger. It's a stand-alone title, never intended to continue the story in Trigger." But alas, the question remains: why didn't they do more Chrono titles? So I might consider doing a what the hell video on it. Thanks!

One of my favourite franchise, I put on equal weights with Suikoden! Arc 1 is kind crap, cliche and limited, I wouldn't recommend for a newcomer but the previous knowledge about characters make Arc 2 a better experience. Arc 2 is the cherry of the cake! Best game, darker story and addicting gameplay, there's too much sheet to do in Arc 2 that you can keep playing forever! Arc 3 took the combat system to another level, making everything great, enemies all die at once (fighting in the volcano in Arc 2 was a pain), the story is lighter and without a major villain (since the academy isn't exactly evil, they are just AS), I think that it's a great fan service game, but it don't hold his weight by his own, I'm surprised to see here that people don't like of this game more. I never played the 4º game, but played the one with the male Dora Adventurers and quit since the game was very boring. I hope that one day we see the collection on Steam.

I loved the first one back on the day, and I didn't notice how short the campaign was because I was so addicted to the battle system that I beat even that "secret" dungeon, and if I remember well was about 50 floors! After that when the 2nd game launched I tried to like but I don't know...theres something off on that title..at least for me. And yes, the tv show its garbage. :p

That has been rereleased many times. Sadly Eternal Blue hasn't seen a remake since Saturn/PS1. It's too bad the Magical/Walking School games never released outside of Japan. And don't get me started on Dragon Song...that one seems to have killed off the series.

Well.. just keep the game until 3.. end.. alec save the world. Arc become a part of Guardians

I love arc the lad: twilight of the spirits. I remember playing and finishing it in 1 weekend, and I was impressed with the novel battle system. But, when I got arc the lad: end of darkness, I was really disappointed, especially the battle system, and I could not care less about the characters. too bad for the series.

A lot of people say the 3rd game isn't good and I would say they are wrong! Yeah it was generic and compared to the second one the world just became another fantasy world with kings/castles. But the actual gameplay was fun and it did one of the my favorite things in tactics games by letting you use all your characters! I love tactics games that let you use all your characters because they are designed with those characters in mind and you don't feel the need to redo things a billion times checking out different characters/leveling them! But this is a series I recommend completely all the games are fun and have some very unique features that make them stand out in the tactical world! They arn't that hard is probably the biggest downfall but they make up for it with a good story and unique characters.

You got things wrong with ARC Entertainment. It was a first party team from SCEI as Poly Entertainment (Moto Toon Racer and GT) was. Poly Entertainment was expanded and changed name to Polyphony Digital in 1998 to work on GT2 and Omega Boost. ARC Entertainment was absorbed into SCEI after Arc the Lad III to work on other projects like what happened to Legend of Dragoon staff. Sony was satisfied with Media Vision working on Wild Arms for PS2 and got Level-5 onboard to make JRPGs. They felt no need to make effort from their own staff anymore. Cattle Call was contracted to continue to shovel out Arc the Lad games for PS2. ARC Entertainment was like Prokion a first party team under SCEI. This was the time before Worldwide Studios and Japan Studio existed.

I beat 1-4, I liked them all. Then they started doing stupid shi*. I also miss working designs :(. They did such a good job on lunar 1 and 2 and arc the lad.

the only Arc the Lad game I've played is End of Darkness.

I couldn't agree more. Everytime I get the chance to talk about that game in my videos or with any other RPGamer out there, I try to recommend that game.

The best thing in Arc the lad end of darkness is the subtitle, sadly...

Arc the Lad 2had the hardest final boss ever for me. It made me burn almost all my mp recovery items that I saved during the whole game and took so long to kill! Regardless Arc 2 and ToS are great games.

Me too! I never beat the final boss in Arc 2 and couldn't even go to grind because I saved the game after that point of no return, ugh!! But yep, those two games are the best in the series.

Yeah, that was the one blemish with the game. The level difference between the enemies in the second to last area and the final area was way too high. Grinding in the area before the point of no return was nearly impossible since you couldn't really earn enough XP to be on equal footing with the enemies in the last area, but in the last area, you had to repeat battles and not too many were repeatable if I remember right, so you had to spend an inordinate amount of time even getting close to the enemy levels. It's been many years since I've played, though.

Looks like you were wrong about that. Arc the Lad R is getting a global release. Apparently, Arc the Lad R (as they're calling it) takes place after Arc the Lad 2, which means, I think, that they're ignoring all the games that came out after 2. Honestly, I didn't really have a problem with the games that came after 2, but End of Darkness was pretty weak for the most part.

"Launched only in Japan", I hate to hear it. Very sad.

Must admit that Arc The Lad 2 was too "Masterpiece" that anything that released after this would can't help to be compared to ATL2 and Arc The Lad 3 was hurt badly because of this and this series never recover. But I actually like ATL3, I love the music, I love the gameplay, I love to use Anrietta and the best thing of ATL3 is "It have a happy ending" Unlike the sad one in ATL1 and the biggest motherfucking bittersweet ending in ATL2 The funniest thing in ATL2 is in near the end of the game when Arc and Elc confront Gaidel, who became dumbfucked and trigger the great disaster to ruined the world. And where are other Arc's and Elc's companion gone!!! Gogen can use Dream Knock to kock Gaidel's to sleep. Shu the Ninja can stealthly stolen the device that can trigger the Great Disaster away. Or Even Iga, who use his bullet-like power to destroy mind-controlled bell in Lieza's Arc can stop Gaidel. But it's look like they're all taking vacation and let the two protagonist to handle the situation and "Completely Failure."

yeah most people just consider the series the first 2 games and then stop. the devs did not even want to make a 3rd game but fan demand forced them to so it feels forced in due to 2's ending.

@@megamike15 But come to think of it. I'm still miss the era that the game creator can created anything without fear the backlash or early reception from fans (or not) in internet. If ATL 2 was created on this day. They would not make the ending like this because the game players would gave a big negative reception.

not including arc or any of the main characters at all but lets show arc on a little tini tiny tv screen in a junk yard blah thats why lol

I have to agree that the story and game aged well. The music was always good but as a kid I looked down on the game like it was a wannabe cliche RPG.

4 (Twilight of the Spirits) > 2 > 1 > 3 (3 is still a good game)

Garbage. Garbage happened to Arc the Lad. It started downhill on 3, 4 was sort of a side grade with a touch of upgrade to 3...and then that's it. Nothing else. I refuse to acknowledge past that point.
