@@santiagosteven6105you want some kind of stability surrounding your foot at some point. If we walked around in our daily lives barefoot 24/7, that’s a different story.

Actually the other way around, most people lack ankle mobility forcing them to lean forward. Meaning they are using their glutes/low back which is why an elevated heel squat shoe is better.

Ok. Good to know. For me, I’m quite the opposite. I’m more hamstring dominant, so this would really help activate my quads.
i was given these Pedestal brand grip socks recently. they are great for lifting and made in the usa.
The problem is I am not quad dominant. My glutes and hamstrings over power my skinny quads. I guess it’s reverse for me for the reason I have knobby knees and am bow legged. Elevated heels did the trick for me as far as balance goes.

I saw a short a few weeks back from Matt. Talked about spreading the floor with your feet. I ditched my Adidas heels and went socked. F me. I’m doing more reps, more stable. Give it a try.

Hi man! I have a question. Why, even if I do a ton of mobility, when I use for too much time heeled shoes, I feel like my form becomes worse over time and gives me problems on depth? I am kinda tall and have long legs, but short torso, my squat tends to be a goodmorning.
Are they quad dominant or just hamstring and glute weak 😜😜

I can only low bar squat in flats due to poor ankle ROM from an ankle dislocation and 2 ankle surgeries.

What is the name of the flat soled shoe you're holding? I current use Chucks, but I feel the quality of Chucks have dropped over time.

Personally, I like hi top vans that are flat, and if I wanna work quads more, I set some 45-pound plates on the floor and put my heels on them.

I disagree on starting off flat though. I myself was not able to get proper depth in flat shoes. Starting off in my lifters I developed strength and technique, and now I am able to get to depth in flat shoes as well.

I’m for starting off barefoot but with one condition. If you’re not capable to go atg/full depth barefoot, do some mobility before squatting and if you’re still not capable, you need a heel (shoe, plate, rubber mats or special equipment). And yes, beginners should start maximum depth/atg if they’re anatomy of hip socket allows it… Of course don’t go atg with “butt wing” at the bottom. Do as your mobility allows and meanwhile work on it. injuries or anomalies also are in to be kept in mind.

When usapl went totally insane on depth and started to stop learning proper squat technique and rely mostly on quads around 2010 or so
My leg press can drop by 500+ lbs with squishy bottom shoes..

@@WenningStrength I am not joking. My hamstrings and glutes are way more advanced than my quads in terms of size. And when I squat with flat shoes, I tend to sit back instead of bending at the knees because I lack the ankle mobility required to stay upright, that's why I use squat shoes, it fixes the problem.

@@olivierlazure1I've had clients in a similar position. Focus on mobility and strength through the most full ranges of motion. Use video of yourself to check positions, and also understand everyone's strength journey is different
