1: China is a superpower. There are 1.4 billion people in China. There are more than 100 million Chinese people who travel abroad every year. Therefore, there will be a lot of people in scenic spots and restaurants. China is a big consumer market. Many foreign businessmen come to China to invest and do business. 2: The problem of network blocking is because the western media are always attacking China and are unwilling to abide by Chinese laws and regulations. More than ten years ago, GOOGLE was able to operate in China at that time. Later, some negative news appeared. GOOGLE was unwilling to abide by Chinese laws, so it directly withdrew from the Chinese market. 3: Wechat payment problem, you can use Alipay to bind VISA to pay. I have seen some foreigners use it like this. China is a cashless society, no need to carry a wallet, all travel can be solved with mobile phones. 4: The problem of smoking may be that you are too sensitive to smells. I have also seen many people who do not smoke, and I do not smoke myself. There are non-smoking areas in public places. 5: Bullet train reservations can be made as long as one week in advance, the earlier the better. Mainly because there are too many passengers. 6: Only old people like to stare at foreigners, because they see too few foreigners. I have seen many who are more enthusiastic. In short, we still need to be more tolerant and adaptable. Hope you have a great time.

About China internet blocks on google and meta, it's simply that those companies chose not to comply with Chinese internet law. So China simply keeps them out, it's just a sovereignty respect-ivity thing.

@@thehungrytourist328 Well, Wikileaks had revealed that google, meta and many US social media had been spied on by NSA. Not even surprised that China blocked them for national security purpose. US demanded that TikTok be banned and TikTok actually complied with US regulation and put their server in the US with Americans in charge of the data, yet the US congressional hearing of TikTok was just so ugly! US is accusing China of what they are actually guilty of! I am a Singaporean and I seriously think China had been reasonable that all US internet services should comply with China's regulations just as what US had demanded from TikTok.

I am currently in China, the much better option of payment is alipay (支付宝), in most of the case you can pay with a US credit card. If you are willing to use a US debit card with either alipay or wechat, you are almost 100% covered, but you are likely to have foreign transaction fee charged. For VPN, it is a nightmare, nothing works 100%. But for navigation, local 高德 map is way better than google map.

@@miamia9808 Sorry I just notice this. I bought it, the most expensive VPN, but I was really disappointed. The truth is, no VPN will be working all the time, I tried Astrill, Express, and they are pretty much the same, sometimes they are working, sometimes you need to constantly change servers since the traffic from KZread will suddenly stop. I ended up using Ghelper, which is much cheaper and almost as effective (probably better in term of using Google and KZread). Though I am not sure Ghelper is a proper VPN since it is just a chrome addon and you cannot use it in your cellphone (I am using it with my laptop). To sum up, if you need VPN on your cellphone and other device, choose ExpressVPN, not great, but not worse than any other VPNs, it is cheaper than Astrill but one of the most recommended VPNs.

@@miamia9808 I have a very different experience than wengezhu1. AstrillVPN was by far better uptime. I ballparked that as around 99.9%. ExpressVPN not only had much spottier uptime closer to 90%, it also had long periods of sudden downtime. Astrill has some privacy issues but if you're concerned about that, you should probably be investing in your own VPN solutions and putting in the work to get that set up and automated. Generally speaking if my connection dropped on Astrill, I just switched onto (or off of) Wifi and swapped locations. Astrill had a tough time on StealthVPN settings but WireGuard should work. ExpressVPN, when it's down, usually all the locations are down and it stays down until they get a patch fix. Again all of this doesn't matter if you roll your own VPN, but good luck with that.

Good video. KZread is full of videos that say either "China is hell! Don't go there!!" Or: "OMG! I can't believe how advanced and super cool everything is!! Come to China, it's Heaven!!" This is a rare video that points out a lot of good stuff, but also gets down to some of the little details that a tourist might not think about while planning a trip to China, such as the importance of having access to WeChat Pay, people smoking everywhere, and concerns such as being blocked from Google, KZread, Twitter, etc. This feels like a video from someone who has gone to China and experienced some good and some bad, which is exactly what you should expect from any tourist destination.

I personally regard smoking as a right for the poor and laborers. Smoking might be the cheapest way for them to escape from the anxieties and toils of daily life. I notice that in the US(as I have been here for 9 years), more people smoke (sometimes I even smell marijuana on the streets) in big cities than in small affluent towns. I am not against them, as I believe it is a social problem. Many people choose to smoke due to the environment in which they grew up. Unless we eliminate poverty and ensure prosperity for everyone, we cannot resolve the smoking problem.

One summer day, my mother and I returned from our daily shopping. She asked me to go and give an ice cream to the old man. "Why? He may need food rather than ice cream," I said. "Yes, but I do not know if he has ever had a chance to enjoy an ice cream in his whole life," my mother answered. I realized that people from different social classes could really exist in different worlds. Things you enjoy or suffer from might never even cross the mind of others. This could also be seen as a situation where I would never feel sorry for the rich man who died on the $500,000 submarine tour. However, some people may consider them a hero.

Smoking is a mixed bag in China, the Government is against smoking and yet they control tobacco products and make huge profits off the products. My Brother-in-law smokes all the time, never in the house so he steps out a lot. When we go out he is always smoking, the addiction is bad. It was much the same in my youth in the USA people smoke everywhere and then the laws started changing and it is mostly smoke free today. Do to the large numbers of people in China it would be more difficult to become smoke free.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree, smoking is one of the hardest to quit- I empathize with people addicted to tobacco. And yes, due to the large numbers of people in China it's going to be a difficult process. I was also curious on how the younger generations views it- unfortunately people get started young and it's nearly impossible to quit.

I used to think crowds were bad in China and then i went to India and it made China look empty in comparison, The non-stop beeping, the animals on the streets and the hustlers and scammers everywhere. But yeah the older generation grew up during the cultural revolution thus most of them didn't have an education, Thus they always talk loud, spit and stare. Especially those who come from rural areas. They don't have good public manners which is where Japanese people excel at however Chinese people are very hospitable to strangers and like Arabs they'll always treat a guest very well so if you can get over the bad public behaviour of some Chinese then there's a good aspect that China has that i find is lacking with the other East Asian cultures is that warmness to strangers.

Big tobacco is still huge in the US, which means people are still smoking - they are also vaping now, it's just more regulated where they can smoke which is good for people who inhale second hand smoke. I use VPN all the time and l live in the the Global North. Asking why China so much fear? Is like pretending there is no big brother out there constantly trying to intervene in other countries affairs.

Just like America blocked all the Chinese’s social medias Apps or even products. All of these actions, are due to the fear of competition. America know that if they allow the Chinese’s products to come in to America, they would have some problems selling their products here in America. They would have to drop the price of American products in order to compete.
