I’m here to talk about the best character in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. The movie was exceptional, the best trilogy, maybe the best part 3 of any trilogy ever-I laughed, I cried, and I’m excited for the future. But I think we may look back at this movie and reme,ebr it as the MCU movie that introduced Adam Warlock into the MCU.
Doug: That himbo secondary villain?
Ah, but Doug is so much more. Warlock has the potential to become THE character in the cosmic side of the MCU, and we have thought of a way that his movie would be instrumental in how it ties into kang, the Kang Dynasty, and secret wars.
Seriously, we are so excited about how this can play out, and I can;’ wait to explain it to you. I’m going to run through some of Adam's history in the comics. We touched on this in our breakdown video, but we’re going to go into way more detail here, because this will be key in understanding what is next, going forward. Then I’ll talk about warlock’s solo movie, and how it can tie in with the slum lord solo movie we talked about in this video where star lord teams up with the eternals to face off against the celestials.
So what we saw in Guardians, that’s about 1% of warlocks’ story in the comics. The movie w as actually pretty loyal to his early appearances. He is created by a group called the enclave, who wanted to create a genetically perfect person. Unlike the highly evolutionary, they succeeded. But there were skins of the young and dumb. In his second appearance, he sees lady si and says, “yeah, I wanna mate with her '' then has to fight thor.
Warlock also does this thing where, if he dies or is near death, he creates a cocoon around himself. When the cocoon hatches, his memory is shaky, he may have new powers-he’s a little bit like Dr Who [clip].
His cousin is found by the high evolutionary, who is just building counter earth. So in the comics, the high evolutionary war was trying to make any-men for counter earth, like in the movie. And these animals were also way too violent. One of them was a mutated wolf who called himself the man beast. So when the high evolutionary actually finished counter earth and was about to fill it with peaceful, perfect humans, the man beast corrupted them so they would do evil things.
Making the man beat is kind of like the evil of this world. So writer Roy Thomas made Adam into the savior of counter earth-the messiah. He got a ragtag group of tens to follow him around-and then introduced a counter earth version of dr doom and reed richards. I think Thomas just liked having his own earth to play with, where he could see whatever charters he wanted.
So man beast becomes president and sentences warlock to death-I’m not making this up. Adam is crucified, then reduced, defeats man beats, and ascends into space.
Doug: That’s uh…pretty new testament.
Yes it is. So I doubt we’ll see any of that in the movie, since counter earth is at owen and beru levels of crispy. But I’m telling you this to establish that being a religious figure is in the DNA of Adam warlock. There’s always societie who looks to him as a golden god. And Adam always thinks of himself as a champion of life.
Warlock is a character who is so powerful, the only villain who can really defeat him is himself. And that’s who is going to be the main villain of a warlock movie.
Doug: This makes no sense. It's like when you tried to explain the ending of Planet of the apes.
That ending makes perfect sense, and so does this. Let me explain.
So the best thing to happen to Adam Warlock was the writer and artist Jim starlin-this is him in Endgame. Starlin was marvel’s cosmic mastermind for decades. He and Steve Englehart would drop acid and walk around the city, dreaming up these wild concepts-don’t do that, yet that's really dangerous and drugs are bad. [you want to go home and rethink your life].
Starlin wrote the stories that were eventually turned into Infinty War and Endgame, two of the highest grossing movies of all time.

Fun theories as always, but please, I do not need Exorcist jump scares in my fluffy lunchtime viewing.
Starlord and the eternals Sounds catchy. I could see him getting a power up from externals and joining them on a quest to stop the silver surfer who ultimately brings in galactus after the multiverse saga.

I'd actually watch that, hope they include more Eternals, more Deviants, and HOPEFULLY address Tiamut who's just half-emerged. Maybe introduce other characters like Nova(Richard Rider or Sam Alexander) and Kitty Pryde to.

Adam just got introduced, I feel like it would be too early to turn him evil. They might have to wait on the Magus thing for a while. If Magus was a multiversal variant of Adam in Secret Wars, that could work.

I wouldn't be shocked if they go in a different direction from Kang entirely. Make Doom the baddie and just from there. Wouldn't be the first time, remember when "Captain America: Serpent Society" was announced?

Lol they’re not scrapping phase 5&6 on a flaky at best assault case and then there’s the $20 million and backend pay for the Kang dynasty, that would be hard for marvel to get out of!

@@trenitty81 it’s not scrapping the phases, it’s moving off Kang. As more and more stories come out about Majors, it’s very difficult to justify building so many movies around him. Marvel probably has morality clause outs in the contract too.

There lies the problem with the internet, people can just put anything they want out and without any truth, the general public runs with it. What if Disney/Marvel said, no to Josh brolin because of his past? You’d have a totally different Thanos and Cable. Maybe just maybe, Disney knows something that we don’t about the case and that’s why they’ve stuck with majors!

@@trenitty81 two directors have come out saying how bad he is, with one saying “in actuality, is a vicious, cruel, abusive human being, both professionally and in his personal life”. As for seeing more victims come forward, as a matter of fact, yes. There is reporting from numerous sources that additional victims are working with the DA. So the idea that this is some sort of isolated incident might be wishful thinking on your behalf. As for Disney, they probably are hoping for the best given Loki S2 is already filmed, but if you don’t think they’re internally exploring options, you are kidding yourself.
A solo Adam Warlock film, if well written and scripted, would be something I’d want to see onscreen. Hopefully, Adam should be presented as he was in the Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity War; a being of pure logic (think Mr. Spock).

Only Peter and quill can tap into their celestial source powers… Mantis, presumably because of her species or otherwise cannot. Remember, Peter Quill is human, and his celestial side was dormant; mantis, though her celestial side couldn’t be activated, “served a useful purpose”
Ok, so what if.... one of the Kangs, interdimensional Thanos' (or a new baddie depending on the judicial system) shows from the multiverse with a new gauntlet, and Warlock has to form the MCU's Infinity watch with maybe Moondragon, Kraglin, Thanos, Mantis, Pip, and himself?

Or Secret Wars will show how the Avengers need to go back in time and protect their timeline which is the sacred timeline and gives birth to he who remains so he can win the multiversal war and stop Kang the Conqueror from taking over. It’ll be a reverse time heist instead it will be to preserve the timeline and it’s infinity stones and he may inherit the Soul stone from the past timeline he protects it in, maybe even being the one who ensures Tony gets all the stones and does in fact sacrifice himself to defeat Thanos. That must be the reason He Who Remains sanctioned their time travel because it leads to his birth and rule

This is what I've been worrying about for a while. When I first saw such channels I saw this coming... Not to throw any shade on these channels but I personally think theory channels should stop. Not the ones which find beautiful details and Easter eggs. Channels have influence over people and when they theorize they do their best to give us the most exciting theory. But that can't be practically done as Marvel doesn't end with that one film... It needs to continue to make 20 more films after that film. But we are overhyped with such theories and will never find the ones given from Marvel as the best. We are only disappointed as that non practical didn't play off on the big screen... These channels don't realise it but they kill a franchise without even knowing they're doing it. And we fall for it too...

Adam doesn't "become evil". He expunges both the good and evil aspects of himself. The evil aspect becomes Magus and his good aspect become the Goddess. Both of whom he ends up having to confront and defeat when they try to take over the universe.

I think y’all missed the point that he was born/hatched(whatever) too early. The depiction of him in GotG3 is not his end all be all. He will have an arc and mature and become more comic accurate over time, you just have to be patient. If he was as he is in the comics he would’ve taken over the movie and that’s not what we went to see. It was a guardians movie, the last of what we know them to be at that.

Just because he’s going to be around for a long time doesn’t mean that it’s ok for his first appearance to be terrible. Iron Man and Cap were around for the long haul too… and guess what? They were fricking amazing from the start. Oh, well this wasn’t his movie… it was just an intro you say? Well Black Panther and Spider Man were both introduced in someone else’s movie… and they were amazing from the start. Let’s stop excusing mediocre writing and a trash character. It’s almost as if James Gunn was getting back at the MCU for killing off one of his characters in another movie so he decided to make this character trash as hell that’ll be used in other movies lol

I'd love to see Thanos come back and interact with Warlock. Remember he was dusted, so he's not anymore dead than those dusted during his snap. Theoretically they could find a way to being him back.

I mean, every Marvel movie has an aspect of the hero having to fight aspects of themselves, but as for someone literally splitting into 2 doppelgangers and one is good and other is evil is more obviously Superman 3 (I think?) with Christopher Reeves and for Marvel its gotta be Ultron who split from Jarvis which was basically Tony's consciousness, so it's kind of like Tony Stark vs Evil Tony in Age of Ultron. Maybe Wandavision...?
This was a very different star lord than we are used to seeing, I think. He had a bit more of an edge to him after everything he’s been through. He’s still funny and charming but he definitely was more of a leader and smarter in this one. I loved it. ALSO. I realized that he says “it’s not a trap, it’s a face off” and then later in the final confrontation with high evolutionary there is literally a “face Off” lol

I absolutely agree, cosmic stories are the most intriguing for me. I want more Celestials! Galactus! Infinity! Eternity! Etc!
I truly hope they do something with Adam Warlock. I loved him in Guardians 3 but there just wasn't enough. Gunn said he had the hardest time fitting him into the story which is understandable. Introducing a new character in the final movie of a trilogy is an odd choice given the story they told. Hopefully they needed to get that intro out of the way so now we can have Adam Warlock as much as possible. I'm sure some people didn't like his dumbing down but I thought Will Poulter made the character incredibly likeable and I can't wait to see him again. I might have to see the movie again just for him.
I just want to see a new Marvel Holiday Special that features Deadpool, She-Hulk, Loki, Rocket, Cosmo, Howard The Duck & Pip The Troll meeting the MCU mutant version of Santa Claus👍

A great team could include Adam Warlock, Star-Lord, Ratchet, King Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Phyla, Steemie Blueliver, Starfox and Pip T. Troll. They would find Mantis Queen of the Broods. From here, there are so many possibilities. One thing J. Gunn said on the way out was, he wanted these characters to be able to live on if the actors wanted to continue in the rolls. Best part 3 of any trilogy is probably accurate. 2 fell slightly flat for me w the expansion storyline but the rest of it was pretty great, but 3 was just *chefs kiss

One of the best dives into my boy. Roy Thomas and Jim Starlin's stories made me love Adam Warlock. Infinity war, crisis, and watch made him my favorite. I'm just happy he's finally in the MCU and hopefully more people will want to know about my favorite. Will Poulter did a good job with what he was given. If Annihilus or Magus show up I'll be super happy.

For the people who don’t read comics. A better understanding of Adam Warlock’s issue with the Magus can be either played or seen via cut scene from the Guardians of the Galaxy video game recently released. Such a beautiful and great game. I highly recommend playing it than watching cut scenes on KZread. Because it’s just as tongue-in-cheek as the movies are and extremely James Gunn inspired the game.
