And as a side note, the mental image you gave me of using the spoons like a melon baller with skulls, made me lol so hard!

What?! No petish (small rock hammer)? The only tool I recall from my Intro to Archaeology course (1985, University of Central Oklahoma).

No, I've never needed a rock hammer in any of the places I've dug, I do have a small pick axe. We didn't do much breaking of small rocks, just big ones.

How do safety glasses work if you have regular glasses?

  • @Inside_Archaeology

    @Inside_Archaeology

    7 жыл бұрын

Well there are a couple different options. Some employers are happy for you to just wear your glasses, some will ask you to wear 'overgoggles' on top. The project I just left they had hardhats with safety visors that you could pull down over glasses. And once a coworker couldn't wear the over goggles because they gave him headaches so the company bought him prescription safety glasses, mind he was a supervisor and likely to be on the project for a long time rather than someone on a small temporary contract. Thanks for watching!

I think you can get prescription safety glasses though I’ve got no clue how much they’d be.

How do you get matched up with companies or jobs after college?

  • @Inside_Archaeology

Well you need to research companies and apply just like any other job. My first video 'Preparing for an Archaeology Career' talks about this in more detail. Thanks for watching!

Hi I have a question can I become an archaeologist after doing ba history Hons from india and then doing masters in roman history and archaeology from University of Kent from uk. Please help I want work outside my country like italy rome uk etc I love roman history. Does having Bachelors or under grad degree required for archaeology.

  • @Inside_Archaeology

Well I'd say you have the right degrees for a career, but the problem with wanting to work outside India will be getting a visa as archaeology is not usually a profession that sponsors work visas. Additionally I've been told there isn't any/a lot of commercial work in Italy right now, to the point where entire companies of people are coming to UK to work on projects here. But there is Roman stuff all over Europe. You do need an undergrad for most archaeology jobs but a history one is as acceptable as an archaeology one and having an archaeology Masters will help. Thanks for watching!

So first things first, it's my dream to become an archeologist, currently I am going to be a junior in high school. I've been looking it schools out here in California that offer anthropology classes. My questions is am I heading in the right direction?

  • @Inside_Archaeology

Anthropology is definitely the right direction but in my experience that tends to focus of very early humans/homonids rather than the history of human civilization, but I believe it is different in the states. Finding programs/schools offering archaeology is best but an anthropology degree is still perfectly ok. Thanks for watching!

I apologize if this is incorrect, but it seems like most of the work you do is in the U.K. Is this because you want to stay close to Edinburgh or is it because the U.K. presents the most/best opportunities?

  • @Inside_Archaeology

Yes I live here so for the foreseeable future all my work will be in the UK. I like the style of digging and the variety of archaeology is more suited to me personally over here, North America is majority prehistory stuff(lithics) and I got a bit sick of it after doing just that for 10 months. Currently the UK has some of the best opportunities for archaeology jobs because of the infrastructure projects they're investing in but that won't always be the case. Thanks for watching!
