I'm a russian high school student, and to be an archaeologist was my dreamsince my childhood. I read hundreds of books about ancient Egypt, Greece and etc. I was told that it's not possible for me to become one, because in Russia it's a very badly paid job, so I forgot about this idea for a number of years. I didn't study history in school, because I thought I wouldn't need that. One day, I was cleaning up my room and I found my favourite book about Egypt from my childhood. I spent the entire evening reading the book later that day. I realised, I don't want ANY other job than this. Now I'm studying history as hard as I can from the beginning and I hope I'll be successfully passing the exams this May. Then, I will have some time in 10th and 11th grades before going to the Uni. But as I mentioned earlier, in russia it's a poor paid job (492 dollars per month), so I'm planning to study abroad. I've been studying English language since 4th grade, and it's obvious I'm not perfect at it, so it'll be challenging for me. But now I know, I'm NOT going to give up this time. I'm NOT going to give up on my dreams. If this is your dream job too - please don't give up. No matter how hard it would be to become one. I'll leave it here as a promise to my future self!

As a post graduate student of Archaeology I have realized that to become an archaeologist you should must have some knowledge on history, anthropology, geography, geology, paleontology, mapping, surveying, art and drawing skills, biological sciences, environmental science, mathematics or quantitative techniques and today GIS and Remote sensing technology and other subjects from earth science can help you to understand the whole process..on the other hand knowledge of physics and chemistry is plus point for you........it is not necessary that you should have all the background of those subjects but you can developed the knowledge yourself.......adventure spirit and curious mind also help you to become and Archaeologist .........Archaeology is very broad subject which covers many aspects from other branches.....if you have a desire to become an archaeologist you can do it......any one can become and Archaeologist if you have dream for it...best of luck and go ahead ....

Its depend on different universities where they require specific qualifications for Archaeology....they require specialization on some certain subjects like anthropology or history to study Archaeology....if your from science background it is great plus point for you.....so if your among anthropology or history background then you are qualified for Master in Archaeology....some other universities provide open categories for Archaeology....You can contact those universities where you want to get your Archaeology degree..Basically after doing graduation you are eligible for Master in Archaeology..But after all you have some basic knowledge all subjects which I had mentioned on my previous post...Go ahead and best of luck...

For those interested in Archaeology, I have some tips: you need to make sure you're an outdoors/roughing it type of person. I started volunteering/working in high school for the YCC (youth conservation corps), we would build trails with picks and shovels, haul rocks to build rock walls, dig urban gardens, honestly very similar tools and work ethics you use in Archaeology. You work in remote areas generally. I then started mentoring with a Cultural Resource Management (CRM) firm in high school. From there, I got my undergrad in Archaeology and at the same time worked in the same firm's lab while taking classes. You are required to take a field school before getting a secure job in Archaeology, so I did a two week field school in Belize...and then did three other field schools after that. Local field schools are cheaper compared to exotic ones. I decided to go for my Master's in Archaeology, and through that decided I was ready to be an archaeologist for the federal government compared to working in academics/museums (think stereotype Archaeology, what you see in this video), or working in CRM work/private companies, which account for a good 60% of jobs in Archaeology. Fields related to Archaeology include cultural anthropology, biological anthropology, museum studies, and also hard sciences such as geology, geography and ecology. Technology expertise that's used in Archaeology includes GIS/mapping software, photogrammetry, ground penetrating radar, drones, radiocarbon dating, dendrochronology, and a whole lot more. Hope this helps, Feel free to message me if you have any questions. :)

This is so inspiring even though I'm not an archaeologist. The storytelling, cinematography, editing - everything is on point.
I have been wanting to talk to an archeologist for about 25 years. I found something in south Texas yrs ago, and I thought it was exciting. While building a road, a cut had been bulldozed through a small hill. It was white in color. On close examination I found an 8" layer of limestone complete with millions of normal size snail shells (fossils) imbedded in the rock. Directly below this layer was another. This was maybe 6 inches thick and made up of nothing more than millions more snail shells. These were not formed into any rock but what you might call "free standing". Had it not been for another 5or 6 " layer of limestone sandwiching these from below, I wouldn't have thought that layer of shells had been there any great amount of time. Not exactly like finding a mummy or an Aztec burial chamber but it works for me.
I didn't choose to become an archeologist, but I've become one, finding Native American artifacts in my own backyard. 🗿

Ever since as a kid I loved to go with my school to beaches to find fossil's it fascinated me because it would tell the history of our planet and being archaeologists would actually be a hobby for me as I love to adventure and dig/build.
I have a BA in anthropology in the archaeology sub discipline and also was certified in ArcGis. I got to work as an archaeologist for five years, I was very lucky to have that opportunity. The bottom line is unless you intend to get a Phd in anthropology, it is very unlikely that you will be able to make a living at it. I was in my mid 50s and retired and didn't need to worry about making a living. I pursued archaeology just for the fun of it. So my advice is that unless you are independently wealthy, choose another career path.

emily centa there are a lot of underwater sites being discovered these days. Water levels used to be lower. Look up Doggerland for example but there are deeper sites than that. You would be covered by a wetsuit and underwater while not being so close to the equator (depending on which site). And there are vast cave systems that have relics in them as well as the relics of an ancient civilization having built it’s home and other infrastructure into the wall. You would be underground and pretty safe. Also, there is probably a lot pf work you can do in an office such as cleaning up finds, restoring them, figuring out what they were used for and setting up exhibits inside of a museum.

i've wanted to be an archeologist since i was 8, after reading about ötzi the iceman in a donald duck magazine. 10 years later i'm very much struggling with school, since i had to quit temporarily for medical reasons so i've missed a lot. i tried to go to school again recently but quit again pretty soon, i just haven't got everything sorted out yet. _but_ by complete chance i saw my biology teacher, who struck up a conversation with me. she said how she missed me in her class, i told her why i quit etc. i then explained i wanted to be an archeologist and what paths i'd need to take to get there. and she told me that she knew i could do it, that she could see i was definitely smart enough by the way i answered test questions. that after 12 years of teaching she could see what a student could (for sure) achieve. and it just meant so so much to me. people around me, including family, have said to just do something 'easier' and give up on my dream. but her saying that legitimately almost made me tear up. i know i've got a long way to go, but i'm gonna get there!!
even through it's kind of a drag to watch any educational video (all except for, of course, Bill Nye that is) this one grabbed my attention and I enjoyed it.
I’m in my final year of highschool and have mainly studied 20th Century History, a range of English subjects and Media. I have now become obsessed with Archaeology and it has always been an interest in the back of my mind since I was a kid. I suck at Math and have no experience in geography, biology or ancient history throughout school. But I have always self taught myself ancient history in a way. I also love learning languages. I REALLY need advice because it is now my greatest ambition. Have I doomed myself or do I still have a chance? *Little rant- I think it’s silly some people end of studying a certain field throughout school only to graduate with no clue of a dream career. Then when they figure out their ambition the career usually requires experience and grades for that career from school! Not everyone can find that little spark so early!

Assyriology is the study of the Ancient Near East - Akkadians, Sumerians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Persians, possible also Hittites. But it's more philological, at least in Germany. Did we underestimate their skills? Did aLiEnS dO iT? You won't believe what the ancient alien theorists said this time!" Really though, this work interests me. I get a good amount of freedom and independency, aside from some teammates I work with and the people I might report my work to. Though this line of work grants you mobility.

Yeah. Around 4 months I dig sands in North of Russia and find many cool things. Archeology is best part of my life and I think what everyone who like history must try himself in this!
My biggest question is, how often do you travel to a sight and how often do you get to go home? I am really interested in the major but I am afraid of losing touch with my family.
It seems really fun to do all this and find things from so many years ago just seems so cool. Figuring out the story and how they lived is equally as cool. But Im only in 8th grade so my viewpoint may change. Im guessing if you want to be an Archaeologist you have to like Social Studies, right? Well, for the past few years Social Studies has been so boring, learning about how the United States was founded and stuff like the Civil War and Industrial Revolution. That stuff seems too boring to me for some reason and its not like finding really old stuff. Things like the Otzi Iceman thing seems so cool and fun to think about. And the Roman Empire and The Pyramids of Egypt and stuff, that is all so awesome. I just need to know more about this type of stuff. But I heard you need to work and groups and stuff, and that doesn't really work out for me. But still Im gonna try it anyway. Have no clue what Im gonna do when I get older but hopefully its not boring!
If anyone here is an archaeologist/ archaeology major, realistically, how hard is it to actually be able to do the ‘fun’ jobs like the one in this video and traveling internationally vs. being stuck at an office or just digging holes forever?

I know I'm 2 years late and I'm not exactly qualified to answer but I'm preparing to do an undergrad archaeology course at uni soon and I've learnt that volunteering is a good place to start! It all depends on what fields you want to go into. The place I'm submitting a volunteering application for offers archives, digital, education and care/conservation. I'd do research on that and then try find volunteering options nearby! I personally think that having volunteering on your CV in a similar field will greatly help! Do a lot of research as well into companies offering work experience as well! The corporate ladder in archaeology goes as follows: a digger (digging around the sites, working in groups etc/basically whats in this video) to a site supervisor and then to a project manager/a managerial role, which will offer the best salary. Its up to you to do research into what these entail! I'd recommend climbing the ladder as high up as possible purely so you can live comfortably, as the beginning salary may be below average where you live :) I hope this helps!
It's my dream to become an archaeologist. I'm currently in my first year of uni, studying an arts degree with a major in Ancient World Studies. My university doesn't offer a bachelor of archaeology, and I'm considering transferring to a different uni where I can specialise in the field. It's a tricky decision, because I would have to move to a different city and therefore leave friends and family behind, but at the same time I want to take my studies seriously and I know my university is not good for the career path I want to go down. It's a good uni in general, but the classics and archaeology department is severely underfunded and essentially derelict. I don't know what to do!
I wanna be a archaeologist because I love ancient things. Especially Ancient Egypt. And archaeology is cool overall. Like I can discover things from thousands of years ago
I love history. I just wish there was a replacement of the TV series Time Team.
I really want to do this when I grow up
Honestly I feel like I was made for this job I love history and love watching history it would be even better going to them in real life it amazes me like Pangea Egypt rome ww2 times from when the first human species were around
I want to be a archeologist with an engineer degree later. I've always loved a challenge and exploring while researching.

I’m so interested by this job. I’m only in 6th grade but I still feel like I have to choose what I want to be soon. A vet is my dream job but an archeologist sound really interesting. I go into the woods and I always try to dig things up I’ve found a squirrel head bone a squirrel body bone a raccoon body bone and a rose quartz. Arrow head!
This is my dream job
Nathan drake inspired me into this type of stuff. Thanks Nate.

I love to study archaeology
Can anyone help me..which books I need, to know how to explore archaeological sites?
I don’t want to go to school for archeology because I’m already halfway in my school for nursing and I just can’t give it up, but is there any opportunities to just go along with an archeologist group and help them out?

I'm sure there are a lot of archaeology groups looking for volunteers who'd love to take part as a hobby (if of course you're up for travelling). But make sure you apply for communal digs and not commercial ones
They fail to mention there's not much offered jobwise other than survey, and you have to have money to fly around, etc.

I've never been without a job and aside from my very first excavation in Zambia I have never personally paid to fly anywhere
I wanted to be a archeologist since I was 5
I don't mind past history and such, but I've always been more into Astrology. I started when I was 8yrs old.
How many years of university/what degree do you need to be an archeologist?
i hope ill get in an archeology university and go to the world to see or discover far more relics and yet still be a gardenist slash bag and shoe lover amen
Unfortunately I'm 31 and to old to get into this field of work 🥺 I do x-ray inspection on welds but I always wanted to do archeology Her x-ray machine doesn't use gamma but rather a x-ray tube. Huge difference then what she was putting it as

31 is NOT too old! There's anywhere between 50 yo all up to 70yo who study Archeology! I'm 32 and I'll begin my bachelor soon, excuvations are part of it but not all of the subject. Please don't be discourged if it's your dream.
I want to do both Paleontology and Archaeology, be a historian on the side, and also draw out my findings. But I cant do math very well which is the down side.
Im really want to be archeologist!😭 Im so interesting when im 10 y.o. in archeologist event.Im now 14 y.o,and start to planning my future to be archeologist, try search best archeolog university, and readings many archeologist book.. hope im can be like them💖😊
What do you do with the ooparts?
Hi! I´d like to know the intro melody.
I just recently finished a Cultural Resources Management (CRM) Archaeology Field Technician school ($5000) and am having a difficult time landing a position. I also have a bachelors in Anthropology. Any suggestions?
i want to be a archeologist but I am really bad at maths what should I do ?
I have a degree in Anthropology but it’s definitely not an easy career to get into. This video romanticizes it, which I understand, but it’s been a real hassle getting a job with this degree & I studied for over a decade 😢 Hoping I can one day put my degree to use…
