This will be the 3rd district I’ve ever subbed in. I also used to teach. I don’t think I’ve ever brought my laptop because I’m scared someone will steal it. I used to sub in some very tough schools.

What level do you Substitute in? I've been subbing for quite a few years and I've only had one assignment, a multiple-day one, where I had time to read when students were in the class. I've never had a school ask for my keys either but then, the schools I work for either don't give classroom keys to subs (a small single school district) or we have to pick up our timesheets at the end of the day when we turn in the keys.

I mostly sub grades 8-12. I've subbed a few times for grade 5 and 6. Sometimes I have time to read/ work on other things if the students are busy working and behaving. Especially for high school, they are usually pretty self sufficient. But whenever I subbed for grades 5 and 6 I was on my feet the entire day helping and controlling the chaos haha.

How can you say that you have worked at more than one school if you have only had one assignment?

Wait! What? They make u turn in your car keys for your classroom keys? What if u ride the bus? Some substitute teachers do!

Most schools I’ve been to have done that, just so you don’t accidentally forget to return the classroom keys. If you don’t have keys they could ask for an ID or something you wouldn’t leave without lol

As a sub I did, yes. Usually a teacher will just give students independent work to do. I’m a teacher now and I do this. So as a sub, after you introduce yourself, take roll and get students working on the assignment you will either just be sitting there and staring at them for 90 minutes or you can have a book or your own laptop to do things on lol

@@byBriannaStone wow that’s awesome I’m my district you have time actually teach and help the kids. Sometimes teachers will not leave a lesson plan so we have to be prepared and be ready lol

I’m sorry if you’ve already answered this but is a bachelors degree required to sub? I’m currently in my 4th year as an undergrad and I want to become a teacher once I complete my masters, but I would love to substitute teach before then 😭

Where I subbed for in Texas you could be in college with at least 48 hours. Depends what school district you’re trying for work. I would look online at their website
