Taught middle school 14 years. Been subbing now for almost three years. Always act like you know what you're doing even if you don't. 😂 Never ask students for help because that makes you look like you are fumbling. Reward good class behavior with "Fun brain breaks" like learning trivia contests, math contests, etc. Always make sure you complete the activities the teacher has in their plans. Don't yell or engage with students who argue. Write everything on the board ( what page to turn to in books, what to do if they finish an assignment early, etc.) so you don't have to repeat yourself constantly.

Do you have to be a teacher or have taught before in order to become a substitute?

No! for my state all you need is an Associates degree, get fingerprinted & pass a background check 😊

With substitute teaching where I am from in ga all you had to do was sign up for a class talking about your responsibilities as a sub(have to get above 85), take a 1 hour sit down class with hr(in person)pay for the background, go get it take your picture for your badge, and wait until you are called to start .

Yeah! It’s actually pretty good, it’s comes out to about $23/hr 😊
