A very timely video, Phil. I am going from London to Paris in 3 days time for a short break and I am just in the process of trying to decide which cameras and lenses to take with me. It would be so easy to take far too much kit and never use it but it is quite difficult trying to decide on the actual NEEDS. Thanks for your presentation and I hope you have a good holiday with your family. I look forward to seeing photos and video from the trip when you get back.

Thank you very much as always! Really appreciate you being on my channel as a regular viewer! Yes, as camera owners of multiple ones it's hard to choice. I think I will do a quick follow up video on this topic, because of my experience. let me give you a slight tease - although I packed relatively minimal, I still didn't use all of it, because of weather and family circumstances :D

@@IntrovertAmateur Ha ha. And just as you discovered, sometimes you really only need one camera. In the end I used my Nikon Zf for everything in Paris and I got some fantastic photos. My 20mm Viltrox and 28mm Nikon Z were great for street work, while from the top of the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, the 24-70mm 4S pulled in the scenery really well. Mind you, I think I could use a slightly longer Z lens, so I must go shopping.

interesting to pick the x100 over the Q3 - what were your key considerations that made the difference

Despite the fact I sold my Q3 a few months ago: I would still pick the X100VI over the Q3 for family vacation simply because of the size and weight of the camera. For family memories I don't need the ultimate image quality and the Fuji still holds up against high end cameras e.g. from Sony or Canon in my opinion. Plus the X100VI has now also a high MP count like the Q3, therefore I also have the option to crop / change composition in post if needed. Last year I took the Q3 as my only camera also for a family trip and on that trip the Q3 just got into my way a bit too often. But that's because of my current life situation: I have to small kids, 1y and 3y old. When one of them suddently want to be on my arm or has fallen to the floor and need to be picked up, the Q3 was too big because of the lens. Image quality is of course unbeatable of the Q3. That's just my experience so far. That being said, after months without a Leica Q, I sometimes miss it and G.A.S is playing mind tricks on me to get one again :D Thank you for watching!

I’ve been tempted to get the pocket 3. I’ve seen some videos where people used it to show them photo walking and it would have looked better with an action cam. Still have to carefully walk using it

I agree with you. I did one POV video with the Pocket 3 and I also think that action cams somehow look better, since they smoothing out the walking part better. Also much more convenient to setup + carry for POV shots. But unfortunately I already sold my GoPro for the Pocket 3 and now I will make the best of it and find ways to integrate the Pocket 3 into my channel workflow. Thanks as always for watching!

@@IntrovertAmateur it’s still a gre at camera that you can do a lot with. If I didn’t still have my Sony ZV-1 I’d probably get one

I enjoyed your thoughts on the cameras, but three cameras (well, two and that video-thingy) doesn't seem very minimal. Makes me wonder what you lug around when you're not doing minimal. I went on many a trip with just one camera/one lens or the Leica Q. I upgraded to a 28/50mm setup, but that only led to constant lens changing which didn't go down well with the family. Then I invested in a Tri-Elmar MATE which turned out the be the perfect travel companion on my M.

Glad you enjoyed the video :) In my opinion it depends on each individual benchmark / experience if a setup is minimal or not. Back then when I had a fullframe interchangable system with Canon and Sony, I packed at least one body with one zoom and 1-2 primes and considered that minimum back then. If you consider the weight compared with this setup, it's feel completely different regarding size and weight. But someone who shoots with a smartphone only, this setup looks very cumbersome. That Tri-Elmar lens really caught my interests, since I saw it a few months ago for the first time. Looks definitely like an ideal travel companion for the M system. Thank you for watching!

You actually kept it very minimal - I’m impressed! You can fill the rest of your bag with SD cards and rolls of film. Have a great trip, looking forward to seeing your shots!

Too many cameras; you’re going to end up not using them and/or carrying extra weight around. Understand the place you’re going too and with whom. You’re going with your family and that’s number 1. Take the x100-6 with a 28 and 50 adapter. Leave the other stuff behind. Use your cell phone for ultra wide; telephoto and video.

Pocket 3 has nearly the same Pixel Size than A6700.

  • @IntrovertAmateur

A6700 has an APSc sensor compared to the Pocket 3 with an one inch sensor. Therefore the A6700 is in most cases superior over the Pocket 3 with the correct lens. But the Pocket 3 definitely has it's strength thanks to the small compact size and the image quality it can provide in this form factor. Thank you very much for your time watching!

@@IntrovertAmateur It totally depends what is native resolution and pixel size. Size of the whole area does not matter. Smaller native for video and higher native for photography. Ofc sensor technology matters too but light physics works like this. Pocket 3 pixel size is 3.2µm and A6700 it has 3.7µm. Pocket 3 has the maximum pixel size what 1 inch can physically reach. And that makes it a low light monster compared to other same size sensors. APS-C size sensor can have bigger pixels than 3.7 is but a6700 is a hybrid camera. A7S3 and ZVE1 has huge pixels because those are made for video. R series is a lot smaller pixels in full frame but those are designed for photography with over 50 mpx native sensors. Like it was in 1980s it is the same the light physics still matters when it comes to video or photo camera. Both gets benefits of different things :) Hybrids are in the middle.

as annoying as the practicalities of film are, it's a hard drug to quit! I personally find the actual shooting experience much more enjoyable than digital, the problem is with everything else to do with it lol

I can see where you are coming from, but film prices impact all film shooters, not only Leica users. Since I started myself with a Canon AE1 and some cheap point and shoot aroung 10$, seeing film prices increase every year just make you think twice to press the shutter. That fact can be a good or negative thing for each individual. Thank you for watching!
