Tip on flicker: The electronic flicker is a product of the line voltage frequency. You need to be aware of that frequency beforehand. In America, 60Hz. In many other parts of the world, it’s 50Hz. LED bulbs will cycle at double that frequency (120Hz or 100Hz). Set your shutter speed in multiples of that frequency, like 0.5, 1, 2, and so on (eg: for 50Hz 1/25, 1/50, 1/100, /200, etc).

Natural live view is a good one to assign to a custom button or screen swipe if you use flash frequently. You can also use natural live view with the expanded RGB histogram to check for highlights being clipped. Great video Chris

Good tip my man! I also recommend using "natural live view" in lowlight situations for a much better preview of the scene. Since there is no tone curve whatsoever applied, you can you see the darker areas of your scene much more clearly.

Hello all, one question about sound settings. It looks like you can save custom settings for IQ, AF/MF etc, so that for example C1 can have different settings VS C2 and so on. However, everything nested into the wrench menu sets the camera universally, so I don't have a way to have the sound on with C1 but sound off with C2. At least on X-S10, I don't know about the other Fuji cameras

I knew most of these, learned several from you. One big challenge I face in getting the settings right on my X-T5 is that I shoot multiple genres: wildlife, macro, street, portrait, travel, landscape, abstract. Now that the X-T5 has good animal and eye tracking, I shoot autofocus-mostly with XF lenses-and manual focus-often with manual 3rd-party lenses. I’ve tried to optimize settings, and do use a suite of custom menus, which I continue to tune. Just got the camera back from a professional sensor cleaning-and a reset of many menu choices. Going through the menus in detail, I realize again that 1) since many of the possible menu choices are mutually contradictory, it’s complicated to get even generic choices like screen display set the way I want them. For example, I always want to see Aperture, Shutter, ISO in viewfinder & screen, but Aperture and Shutter Priority turn off the display of the other parameter. 2) Some choices have unanticipated consequences; e.g., shooting singles often requires significant processing lag for save to card, but shooting bursts with the same settings doesn’t! Sometimes I have been able to identify the slow operation, sometimes I haven’t. I never use flash or shoot video, so I don’t have to deal with those complexities. How do people manage to ride this beast?

  • @Brian444

    @Brian444

    4 ай бұрын

The lag when shooting single could be because of the clarity setting? If you have clarity on anything other than 0 it will take more time to process the photo. If you shoot in burst it will ignore the clarity setting which makes the processing faster.

Thanks for the tricks and tips! One question though. Have you experienced problems in catching real red light when the light source is radiating; e.g. car tail lights, neon signs. My X-T1 just can not reproduce red correctly in those situations. Same applies to my cell phone camera. When the red is reflected light from any surface then red is perfect.

I keep hearing about rolling shutter syndrome on the X-H2. In the majority of cases (rapid pans in a horizontal plane), is this still apparent if the camera is used in portrait orientation? If not, I wonder why the sensor cannot be read horizontally in electronic shutter mode...

I cant for the life of me remember what its called. But that way it re-focuses every frame, so if you move it will focus on you. Something that drives me insane is that when using Natural live view, you’re locked in to the film sim you’ve selected. I wish it would show just a standard negative or bo film sim at all with natural live view regardless of selected film sim. Am I wrong about this or doing something incorrectly? I’d like to see my Acros setup and then switch to a color natural live view as more of a RAW preview. Any way to do that? Thanks for talking about film sim bracketing, that’s gonna be. Dear Pal2Tech, you mention under 8:06 that Natural Live View is good to see the scene when using the flash (when the exposure may otherwise be dark). Wouldn't it be better to say that the PREVIEW EXP./WB IN MANUAL MODE setting is best for this purpose? Sure, NATURAL LIVE VIEW can lighten a dark view up a bit, but if it's really a dark exposure setting, it won't do much. With respect to exposure, NATURAL LIVE VIEW mostly alters contrast and shadows ... plus the other things you mentioned. I think these two modes are best talked about together -- both involve the relationship (or non-relationship) between the viewfinder and the actual processed photo or RAW. BTW, I much prefer the PREVIEW PIC EFFECT name from the X-T2 for NATURAL LIVE VIEW, as it's much more self evident what it does! Why did they change this?

I dont know if he already made a video about making your camera as your web-camera or outer camera. I really would love to try it to use it for vlogging and live streaming.

Hi, I have issues with my exposure preview when I am in either aperture priority mode, or shutter priority mode. The exposure preview seems to work when in manual mode. My camera is I’m Preview EXP./WB IN Manual Mode - Preview EXP./WB and NATURAL LIVE VIEW is off. Please advise how I can recover my exposure previews when in aperture or shutter priority. Thanks

Here's something Fujifilm cameras need: White Balance for Flash. (WB-Auto is inconsistent for the on-camera flash and Daylight is too blue.) My XS-10 has a white balance setting for underwater shooting. Wow, there must be at least a couple of dozen people on the planet who utilize that feature.

Love your videos, always making me try new things... However I broke my camera... It fell really hard and fix it costs almost as much as the entire camera 😢... Can you make a video on how to deal with that type of trauma? 😢😢😢

Chris, Q: I've been using my X-T5 for 6 or 7 months now. I am a long time photographer (48 years) with mostly experience in Pentax, Nikon and Canon (for 12 years+). I can't figure out how to remove the "OK next" prompt after taking an image, in the (viewfinder, and also on the display as well)? It's the one thing that bothers me as I had it set to NOT show in the viewfinder/display initially, but after the reset of the camera, it's there... Do you know how to get rid of the "OK Next" text that appears? THANKS! 😂

Found it! the Set Up menu -> Screen Set-Up-> Image DISP. It is probably set to CONTINUOUS. This will give you the "OK Next" message. To avoid, that set the Image DISP. to a time option, or OFF.

Nobody can seem to answer this, but when you use the film simulation bracket mode, will it use the saved settings you have applied for a certain film simulation?

I remember that one of the early Fuji X cameras had a hot key to switch to silent shutter (long press one of the keys turned it into silent mode with electronic shutter, no flash and no beeps). Is this still hidden somewhere?

Hold display button back and you can then assign a shutter type to any function key of your choosing

1/50th second for flicker reduction might only work in Japan/Europe where they use 50Hz power. In the US we use 60Hz.

There are a few hidden tricks you need to know about if you like to create film recipes. 1. There's a hidden custom setting (film recipe) available to you if you access them via the Q menu, giving you 8 not 7. The 8th is fully programmable via the Q menu, but you cannot even see it via the regular menu. It's called M (manual) and is one click to the left of C1. Unlike the C1-7 settings, it cannot be locked (auto update disabled) so any changes are permanently saved by default. You could use this to give yourself an extra Custom mode. Personally I like to have the Custom settings locked (auto update disabled), so it's great to have one Custom setting that isn't, and I use this to experiment with new film recipes on the fly without messing with my C1-7. 2. Use the setting "auto update custom setting" if you want any changes you make to the custom settings when using them to be saved. With the x-t5 this was the default. Once you are happy with the custom settings disable this setting to lock your settings. You can still change them while shooting but turn off the camera or switch setting and those changes are not saved, meaning you don't accidentally permanently change a favourite Custom setting. 3. Make the Q menu transparent so you can see in real time the impact of changes you are making. I just wish this was possible with in-camera RAW processing!
