What's behind Jos Verstappen escalating Red Bull's Horner crisis

Спорт

The controversy surrounding Red Bull and its F1 team boss Christian Horner has descended into crisis after extraordinary tension within the team was made public by Max Verstappen’s father Jos.
F1’s season opener was dominated by Red Bull with a one-two for world champion Max Verstappen and team-mate Sergio Perez, but the curtain-raiser was overshadowed constantly through a remarkable week in Bahrain.
And what was a dream start on-track has been nothing less than a nightmare off it.
Red Bull and Horner hoped a line could be drawn under the allegations about his conduct towards a female member of staff when the parent company dismissed a “grievance” against him on the eve of the new season.
Instead, it has escalated to new heights, culminating in Jos Verstappen’s shock warning that Red Bull Racing will “explode” if Horner remains in charge.

I thought so too at first, because I don't like all this tacky gossip, innuendos and boulevard press speculations, especially not around this team and the risc it might disturb the whole team and Max' season. But it happens to be so that Jos has a business based upon his son Max' success, and there's also Max' manager. They both have a direct interest in everything concerning the current and future position(s) of Max, so you can't really expect them to be just silent, passive spectators. Having said that, like most people, I have no inside knowledge about which potential issues are at play here. So I won't join the crowd gossipping, speculating and accusing. 🤷🏻‍♂️ But these type of social media fuzz and how a part of the crowd go wild as if they all have crystal ball or think they are knowledgeable psychologists, prove why there's such a big market for boulevard press tabloids.. 🙄

And he is not afraid to ‘sacrifice’ some people or full teams in getting that. And with this, he is not loyal by any standards (although in his f1 career teams were also not loyal to him so that might have added to this attitude). And this includes being loyal to RBR or Horner. @@philsurteeshow can Horner be replaced in a hot minute? Matteschitz gave Horner the freedom to construct RBR as it is today. Horner made RBR from a small team to the multibillion dollar behemoth, that it is today. Its the reason Adrian Newey works for them, as many other talented people who admire Horners leadership and want to work for Red Bull in long term. To destabilise Horner at all is the dumbest thing that anybody could ever do to RBR as a team, as it would always threat their success. Also: he wants to ban Jos, not unalive and bury. There is no need to replace Jos and Max should be old enough to drive even if daddy watches his race in TV and not in the paddock. Max might even be clever enough to see what his father does and that it might hurt his own agenda even more. Let's be real here: if max leaves RB for Mercedes, he may not be able to win a title until 26, maybe even never again. He won't get that much influence as he got in RBR, coz everybody would know the lose gun Jos will come with him.

Jos Verstappen should mind his own business and stay out of it. HE's a hot head with a very shady past involving lots of violence so he's the last person to have a say in any of this. BTW Anytime someone chooses to not go to the authorities but to the media in an attempt to ruin someone's reputation I'm very suspicious.

I searched everything, and everything they post is 'speculation' or said by source close to Jos 😅 while he denies it... no body actually read article, just missleading headlines. They know as much people praise Newey or Max, Horner is as much if not bigger part of succes, so they want eather get rid of him, or make Max choose beatween father or RB." Sourcs: trust me bro.

Dig your head out from where you buried it in the sand. A simple Google search for the phrase he used will lead you to the interview. And anybody who has been paying attention knows that Jos has been notoriously difficult for teams to deal with throughout Max’s junior career, to the point where RB laid down the law about that behaviour when Max joined the team. However, Jos has been getting increasingly cocky since Max became a world champion, and increasingly pissy since Monaco 2022.

It will be interesting to see how Red Bull will respond to this. Usually the teamboss is there for the longer term and drivers are just passing by. If Red Bull will choose sides for Verstappen it will be clear that they are not behind the results of the investigation of Horner. As for Jos, why is he doing this, is this really in the best interest of Max? Time will tell.

There’s rumour that Max has a clause in his contract (along with Adrian Newey and other key senior staff) that they can exit their contracts if Horner leaves…is Jos sacrificing Christian to allow Max to jump ship in 2025? Sounds daft if RB have a dominant car…but I wonder how RB Powertrains are getting on with development on the Power Unit for the 2026 rules refresh? Surely Jos isn’t daft enough to destabilise the team without a plan? I’m no RB fan, but Horner is clearly an effective, talented and successful leader…who would Jos rather be in charge of the team?

Maybe Jos wants to activate the get out clause in that if Horner leaves then Max can move to another team. Further more, he wants to make sure RB is not competitive if he does by making Newey join Ferrari with the same (alleged) get out clause in his contract. So max fills the seat at Merc, Newey jumps to Ferrari, Horner not leading. Max in the pound seats.

My thoughts: engine regulations are about to change and RB decided to build their own engine which might be just not that good given they are not backed by a manufacturer with a lot of EV experience. A team who has been building great engines (Mercedes) just got a free spot. Max has a contract until 2028, if he wants to leave the team there likely is a clause in his contract, what if it's horner leaving red bull...
