Max Verstappen's threat to Red Bull's warring F1 team

Спорт

Serenity on-track, constant chaos off it - Red Bull is being pulled apart at the seams by a war for control that has triggered a major warning from Max Verstappen.
Wins in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have made for the perfect start to Red Bull’s season and Verstappen’s bid for a fourth consecutive title, but this dominant dream team risks being destroyed from within.
What started as Christian Horner’s personal controversy regarding his behaviour towards a female member of staff has snowballed drastically since the allegations and a subsequent Red Bull investigation became public.
Max Verstappen didn’t really react to any of that. But the latest twist in a vicious struggle for power at Red Bull has now grabbed his attention.

    Drivers get too much attention so they think they are "THE PEOPLE" of F1... they are so overrated. What will Max do at Mercedes or Ferrari? He'd win nothing. People like Horner and Newey are way more important than Hamiltons and Vertappens. This threat makes no sense.

  • @cantfindawayout

    @cantfindawayout

    3 ай бұрын

    @@Willbrse That's an insane take if I've ever heard one. You think Bottas would have won 8 WDCs and 8 WCCs for Mercedes during the 2014-2020 period like Rosberg and Hamilton did? Do you think Webber would have brought Red Bull those championships during the 2010-2013 period? How about Barichello in Ferrari during the 1999-2004 period? You think he'd get 5 WDCs and 6 WCCs in that car (which was 100% the best in 2002 and 2004 and either best or 2nd best in other years)? The answer to all 3 is 'no'. Neither Bottas for Merc, nor Webber for RB, nor Barichello for Ferrari would result in champioships (maybe 1, if they were lucky). Drivers are extremely important, you're not going to win anything even if you have the best car, but a mid-level driver. You need a car as dominant as the one Ferrari had in 2004, Merc had in 2014 or RB had in 2023 to win something despite the driver (as in, Perez probably would have won the championship in 2023 car). Cars as dominant as that don't happen often.

  • @Willbrse

    @Willbrse

    3 ай бұрын

    @@cantfindawayout The answer is yes. Heck Perez would be world champion last season. Anyone a bit more stable than him, like Bottas, would win as much as Vertappen did. Drivers need the team ready for them, but they can't build it. It's people like Horner, Toto, Newey that get things built, the drivers only drive the car. Cars dominant as that happens often. You don't watch F1 I guess... Drivers have their importance but this importance is way smaller than people think. Hamilton can't do 💩now at Mercedes. Verstappen couldn't win before and it took some drastic rule change for Red Bull to be competitive. 2005 saw another change which hit Ferrari, etc. Drivers are overrated. Ofc people like Stroll are just naturally bad. I don't think these would win even in Red Bull. But to say Max is a big loss for Red Bull and a big win for other team is senseless. He can't win without an ultra car, just like Hamilton can't do that now. The "GOATs" of F1 always had some amazing team of engineers and the TP who built it all behind them, those people are the real stars of F1. And the fact that these so called legends 99% of the time are fighting only 1 (ONE) other driver in the best scenario (because either the other teams can't build a decent car or the team of the said legend puts 100% of the effort behind the guy while the other driver is forced to eat the leftovers) proves that I'm right.

But Dr Marko went mad at Horner for doing so. Also they had a two and throw about the driver that got sacked last year. Horner said he wasn’t ready but Marko got his own way and we all know how that ended. Whilst Dietrich was alive he made it clear that Horner runs the team and Marko is Dietrich’s adviser when it comes to the drivers and he was in charge of the young driver’s program. He's the head of the teams driver development programme...most (young) drivers at Red Bull have been and are spotted and tutored by Marko. There's absolutely no chance of Max leaving Red Bull, unless their teams organization completely collapses. Sadly the sewer journalism reigns supreme, creating and endless stream of clickbaity garbage nonsense. It's a parade of regurgitated opinions, assumptions and wishful thinking... completely devoid of factual substance. We'll know what happened when it's done, clearly the power balance within the team has shifted, which eventually results in a new situation. As Max always states, he's there to race...the circus around that has no function to him, so it makes sense for him to simply ignore it. The intent of his statements regarding Horner or Marko are very simple, a solution to shut down the endless barrage of useless questions from 'journalists'. I think it's so obvious what happened. Someone encouraged the employee to bring up false allegations about Christian Horner. That somebody is obviously whoever wants to take his spot later. This person also thought that with things like the me too movement that just unfound accusations would get Christian out. Luckily Red Bull actually looked into the process and realized that it's nothing of the sort.

    Baffled as to what the axe is that The Race has toward Horner. He was proven innocent, the aggrieved party was apparently discovered to be making malicious accusations. Anyone would think this the first time a female staff member has been false witness in their own cause before. Not only that but it's like you haven't ever read a single corporate policy or even the most basic cursory knowledge of UK employment law. When it comes to suspension and dismissal, employment law comes down to essentially whether there has been a breakdown of TRUST in the person and it can be demonstrated. Obviously until such a time as the investigation proved otherwise Horners long service and unblemished record would have held him in good standing. The legally required corporate procedure took place and found him innocent. In conducting the investigation the accusatory party opened the door for evidence against them to be brought forward by Horner in his defence. This likely demonstrated the reasons for there to be such a breakdown of trust in the party raising the grievance especially if vexatious. There is always a clause in any grievance process too to protect against it being misused/misappropriated. Like Horner said all the leaks and speculation has been ONE WAY. A good JOURNALISTIC establishment would be doing more than speculating on official press releases (so much of new medias news grifts in such regard) and actually done some investigative work to ascertain verifiable facts in both directions. However these days journalists like most young people don't know how to generate close relationships and develop sources properly.

    aaand ...still no explanation of Jos's repeated comments that Horner is going to blow up Red Bull... I think this really is a power struggle for control of Red Bull, and it could blow up the team if Max and Newey (etc) are driven out as a result. But why is Jos *pushing* to get rid of Horner. No one is talking about this, most of all Jos. Someone has to call him on this!

    Normally, The Race is not nearly as speculative and PC as with this Hornet brouhaha. The truth is we know virtually none of the facts, which must be very frustrating to journalists. It could be Horner is 100% being falsely accused, this has happened many times since the MeToo movement started. Please tone it down.

    The me too movement exists because misogynists have a tendency to automatically dismiss any allegation against men and get annoyed that “focus isn’t in the racing” or whatever fill in the blank thing that person also does. Kinda like this comment section full of whinging incels broken up by the possibility that holding a powerful man accountable runs the risk of distracting their personal driving Jesus from going around in circles faster than the other guys’ personal driving Jesus’.

    Verstappen isn't going to Merc. Nobody is leaving a team with that performance advantage. He's likely to win 40 races in the next 2 seasons. However whether he sets something up for 26 is another matter. Mercedes appear to be finished as a front running team, hence why the lead driver is leaving

    Silly season has started early, but could lead to RB being stuck with Marko and Perez, and losing MV, AN, CH and Ford. There is only one sensible way forward: the chief belligerants (CH, Jos V and Marko - all too old) all have to leave.

    It's always dangerous when people look at someone like Christian Horner and think that they could do his job better than him. Also it seems foolish for Verstappen to make a decision with no clarity on the 2026 car.... Every manufacturer sells drivers on the fantasy of "what we have in store for the future!" If he wants to win championships, he needs to stay put. He won't be winning races or championships at Mercedes. Please refer to Daniel Ricciardo. When the new regulations come online, he can see who has the quickest car and make a decision with data in hand.
