What REALLY Happened When Steven Seagal Fought Bruce Lee

A few days ago I found out that Steven Seagal said that he fought Bruce Lee. This all came to my attention when a video came across my Browse page on KZread from a channel called Bruce Lee Real Fight. This channel is all about Bruce Lee and nothing but Bruce Lee.
So I took a look at the video, and I saw that he was breaking down an interview from 2012 that Steven Seagal did with Michael Schiavello. I had seen clips of the interview before where Seagal trashed Michael Jai White, Jean Claude Van Damme, and Dolph Lundgren as being fake martial artists, so I wasn't too surprised that Steven Seagal might be on there telling some tall tales about how he fought Bruce Lee, and that they were good friends.
Well, I watched the video on Bruce Lee Real Fight channel where he proceeded to expose Seagal's lies. After I finished, I thought -- you know, I should do a video on this, too. So I went and found the original interview, and I'm just going to say that what I learned really surprised me.

Steven Seagal really met Bruce Lee. Daniel Inosanto said that to his son-in-law Ron Balicki. Balicki is married to Inosanto´s daughter. Balicki told me that Daniel Inosanto and Seagal were at Inosanto´s house when Bruce Lee and Coburn came in. So Seagal was not lying. You can also ask Ron Balicki on twitter. He will confirm that.

Wow, what an impressive career. Bruce lee died in 1973. Steven Seagal would have been 21 years old. So, between the 5 years he graduated from a Los Angeles high school, Steven Seagal moved to Japan to be raised and taught in all sorts of martial arts (Karate Kid, eat your heart out), joined the US Navy (No records of him ever being in the military), Became an elite Navy SEAL (nearly drowned when diving with his friends Gary Goldman and Randy Widner.), worked for the CIA during the Vietnam War (1955-1975), became a police officer (again no records of him ever being a police officer or receiving the P.O.S.T. training he said he has held for 20 years), became a mob boss, and discovered that he was the reincarnation of a 17th century Lama. What a legend. Oh, and in regard to Van Damme, let's talk about how, in 1997, he got called to come outside by Van Damme to settle things and ran both times.

Brandon Lee was born in 1965... about that time Seagal would have been in Orange County, California training Aikido under Harry Ishisaka Sensei (his first Aikido teacher.) Here's more real info about Seagal from my other post about this. The dates and facts are all wrong. Seagal started to study Aikido in the Los Angeles area in Orange, California under Harry Ishisaka Sensei at the Orange Aikikai. This was before 1972. And at this time his name was pronounced like the bird, not with the French accent. Seagal went to Japan after this, not sure about when, and at this time already had been into karate for a while. I know this because I was there (just a baby) but my dad helped build the first ever dojo in Orange was a student alongside Seagal in Orange, California under Ishisaka. Ishisaka died in 1978 and I remember that we got a letter about it because we were living in Illinois at the time. My dad told me most of this information. We have a picture of Ishisaka in our family album and he gave us some gifts that we still have when I was born and did Reiki on me... Seagal, as I remember, got his black belt under Ishisaka and from what I've heard from other high up students of Ishisaka was that Seagal got his love of Hollywood and being flashy from Ishisaka who was always doing flashy demonstrations in front of large crowds in Orange and around Los Angeles. I heard or read that Tohei used to get mad at Ishisaka for showing off so much... I also heard a lot about these flashy demonstrations where Harry Ishisaka Sensei took on multiple swordsmen (real metal swords) blindfolded at the local library and other demonsrtations. I think my dad helped arrange that since my dad was a librarian or library AV tech at the time. Harry Ishisaka was one of Tohei Sensei's black belts and was from Hawaii where he studied other fighting methods before Aikido. I heard a lot about this growing up and later as an adult I talked or emailed with to some of the original Orange Aikikai students who were now veteran black belts. If you want to know the truth contact the Orange County Aikikai where Harry Ishisaka Sensei's grandson is the head instructor. He may or may not want to talk about Seagal and may not know the real info about this because he is young, I don't know. Every year they do a Harry Ishisaka memorial training event where you can attend if you want. I do know some of Seagals contemporaries that have told me some of this information. The info on Seagal's Wikipedia may or may not be complete and does not mention Ishisaka at all. But on Ishisaka's Wikipedia it says: 'Perhaps his best known pupil was Steven Seagal, who began studying under Ishisaka as a teenager in the mid-1960s. A fellow student said "[Seagal] was crazy about Harry Ishisaka." Seagal continued to study at the Orange County Aikikai while making frequent visits to Japan where he studied under other masters, before moving to Japan in March 1973.' So this video creator has his information all wrong and needs to do more and better research.

@@andreawhalen4142 both Lee and Seagal are actors, what you see on the screen is 100% fake. However, Seagal is the only authentic martial artist who is a certified Sensei and Sifu in an official traditional martial art, actually more than one traditional martial art: aikido, karate, judo, tai chi, and kung fu. Wing Chun is not a traditional martial art, it's a modern sparring exercise that is a tiny bastard cousin of traditional Kung Fu. To say that more clearly, you have Kung Fu and then you have the face to face striking sparring that you see Ip Man and Bruce Lee doing call Wing Chun, but that is just a small unofficial and unauthorized part of Kung Fu... it's not a full or real martial art and it is a modern invention, unlike aikido, karate, tai chi, and kung fu which all go back in time much further and teach weapons, health, healing which is more than Wing Chun which is just a punching, blocking, kicking exercise. So in this aspect Seagal is far superior than Bruce Lee and there is no debate about it.

@@leaslangen28 Yes. My friendships actually exist though and aren't mental delusions. Bruce Lee was never Steven Seagal's friend - just in Seagal's mind. He says his son used to play with Brandon with his statement he didn't fact check before making "they were about the same age". Brandon was born in 1965. Seagal's oldest son was born in 1975. He says he would go visit Bruce Lee and Brandon & Kentaro would run around and play. The problem with that is Bruce Lee DIED IN 1973 - TWO YEARS BEFORE KENTARO WAS BORN. 🤣 Also, It would be difficult to hang out with Bruce Lee in California when he was supposedly living in Japan running a full time Aikido dojo and didn't return to the US until after Bruce Lee died. These are just two examples of MANY that prove Steven Seagal is not only a pathological liar but he's also bat shit crazy.

@@anonymous_shooter my two cents... Seagal is a terrible actor. But I, like many, enjoyed his 1st five films. Unfortunately, by the time they were finished, the truth about his lack of any redeemable qualities, became very apparent. Ego, lies, wonton abuse of co-stars, and sexual assault...turned me, and most everyone else, away from watching his slimy films. I'm dating my age, but I also grew up with Bruce Lee, I was also heavily involved in Martial Arts...and regularly competing in Judo tournaments...it was very sad news. It's VERY easy to debunk Seagal's transparent lies. Brandon was born 10 yrs before Seagal's first son was an itch in his testicles, yet he lies and claims that they hung out, while the boys played together. There so much info about the lies he spews, and blatant disrespect for those trained in much more violent forms of martial arts...who would, without a doubt...hand grind him up, and spit him out. Look at other vids of him, you will find so much more.

I have no respect for bullies who are able to win fights purely because they are bigger than everyone on the block. He bad mouthed so many fighters, despite having never fought with anyone who knew how to fight. So segal only fought using aikido in a dojo against other aikido practitioners who were 100% coopérative. So segal was a master playing aikido against no resistance. Not much more to be said about his fighting ability. Why did no interviewer ever ask him if he ever had any kind of fight against a real opponent. The other question is how could he say all those other Hollywood fighters were laughable when he himself never had a fight except against little guys who never fought. Segal is bogus based on there being no record proving otherwise. He is a sad case of ego and dishonesty. I feel sorry for him because he painted himself into a corner with his bull.

Seagal reveals himself through non-verbal queues. Anyone trained in spotting a lie, these queues jump off the screen: looking to the side, scratching his face, crossing his arms, rubbing his eye. Any one of these individually is not in itself determinate, but together are very telling. He wouldn't last 10 minutes in an FBI interrogation.

Let's do some extremely basic math and reasoning here. It's been quite a while since I saw the entire interview, but he said that he met Lee and they talked about their sons being the same age and everything... Now, how is that. Bruce Lee died in 1973 when Seagal was only 21 years old. Brandon Lee was born (I think) in 1965. That year Seagal was 13 years old. So if their sons were the same age sometime around 1972-73 when Bruce Lee was still alive, Seagal surely would've been a very young father. Last but not least, Seagal's son (I think) was born in 1975, i.e., 2 years after Lee's death. Conclusion: a complete lie. The closest Seagal ever came to Lee was watching his films on TV in his parent's livingroom.

I was just a kid in the 60's when i lived. In Hawaii with my Dad, 64-66, & 69-70. While there i saw a lot of martial arts people meeting in group lessons. From 71-72 I joined a Karate School i saw being taught at a navy supply school in Athens, Ga. My instructor was 18 y/o Ben G. Perry who had an older brother Sharon who was born round 51-52. Benji recked a sportster he was riding and for a couple of months wore a cast on his leg. He was excellent artist in tang soo do. I moved to Orange County Calif in Newport Beach in summer of 72. I stopped off at Chuck Norris karate academy in LA. Chuck wssnt there as he was making a movie with bruce. I never recall seeing bruce eccept in the green hornet series. Perry left Georgia for Hollywood right after me and made pictures fighting with norris and later became a director. I dont disbelieve any of the stories he said. Martial Arts was a small world back then. Everybody knew Everybody.. it wssnt like today. People werent that much into spectatorship. There was no security they have developed since 1980. I taught karate in the army when i was with the 82nd. Special Forces and Ranger training center st Camp McCall. In the last 45 years there has been more crazy people becoming a security risk and its changed the whole dynamic of celebrity and public interaction.

It's really strange that Steven Seagal lies about his karate. In old articles, it was common knowledge that Fumio Demura was his teacher. Then again, Seagal is a man who claimed that he learnt swordsmanship directly from a man named Itto Ittosai who in actuality hadn't been alive since the early 17th century...

in that clip of the interview it says that Steven Seagal worked with him and fought with him and that he thinks that Bruce Lee was also learning from Seagal, which if Seagal had his first kid in '75 then it'd be after Bruce Lee died during the making of Game of Death, which I don't recall any Bruce Lee movies with Steven Seagal, not saying there isn't, but not that I've seen so far. Bruce lee did how ever work with chuck Norris and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and was also a role model for Jackie Chan.
