What REALLY Happened When Bolo CHALLENGED Bruce Lee
Bruce Lee versus Bolo is the fight that everyone really wanted to see in Enter The Dragon, and right as it almost happened, it didn't.
But there's a few stories floating around saying that maybe Bruce Lee and Bolo got into a few scraps behind the scenes, and maybe those real fights off camera had something to do with why we didn't see a Bolo versus Bruce Lee fight in "Enter the Dragon."
So let's talk about what REALLY HAPPENED when Bolo Yeung challenged Bruce Lee.

For those of you who don’t know, Bolo Yeung is still alive and well as of late 2019, just before the Covid pandemic sltarted. He lives in my city and I used to see him walking down the street in my hood. He is not as buff as he was, but still very muscular for someone in his 80’s. A friend of mine who also lives in my area mentioned that he still works out at our local LA Fitness. In fact this friend ran into Bolo a few times at this gym and he even asked my friend to spot him. By all accounts, he is a very reserved and quiet person and not like the character on screen. Maybe someday if I meet him again, I will ask him if he and Lee really fought off screen.

Yes, you’ve touched on several good points about Bruce such as his understanding of body mechanics, being a trained dancer, and I could add; a great boxer and wrestler ( he demonstrated these two techniques in ETD movie), which brings me to your last valid point about the many myths surrounding Bruce Lee because ETD was one of his movies that started a lot of myths and I think that this is some of the reasons why he was so misunderstood. I recall in an interview that one of his personal desires and plans was to straighten out those myths once he established himself and tell his own true story through future movies had he not died so young. *Thanks for your valid points!

Hey Man I didn’t get your name, but thanks to Goldenbell Training for this commentary about the million dollar question: Why Bruce and Bolo didn’t fight in ETD. I remember literal intense excitement and anticipation when watching ETD in the theater for the first time! While I was overwhelmingly excited and satisfied with what was Bruce Lee’s overall best performance (my opinion); my only disappointment was that missing fight and I knew then like I still know these days that I wasn’t the only person on the planet who felt that way. I’m still not really sure about a lot of what’s true or not concerning Bruce because there’s megatons of rumors about His life personally and professionally, but thanks for your commentary because it made a little more sense than what I’ve heard in quite some time. I learned some new info and recalled info that I heard before or forgot. If Bruce hadn’t died so young and early, I’d still be looking for that fight with Bolo in latter movies because I surely believe that He had big expectations and plans due after the phenomenal success of Enter The Dragon, (this title interprets that He really was just getting started)! So in closing, thanks again for such great commentary! 🥋

@@dimpleface2163 That's what I thought. I can't really picture either of them fighting each other, at least not with any intended malice or desire to hurt each other. Maybe a private light sparring session or exchange of techniques, but that's all I can imagine being possible. Also, I don't think Bruce was the kind of guy to judge Bolo as only a bodybuilder. I don't think he was one to say someone was or wasn't a "real" martial artist. I think of Bruce as a guy who was a doer, not a talker in the sense that if he disagreed with someone's assertions, he wouldn't just talk about them to discredit them like say Steven Seagal would. I always got that same sense of character from Bolo as well. I never really took him as someone with a big ego. I've never met either of these men obviously, but there's just some people who display their strength of character in such a way that you can kind of infer what they were and/or are probably like just from what you have seen of them, you know? I don't claim to be right in my assessments, but I do think both Bruce and Bolo can kind of be seen outwardly for their noble aspects.

I have been training for over 40 yrs. I am still surprised at the moves and techniques of other martial artists, never close your mind and I always try to gain knowledge from everyone I meet.
I hyave absolutely been in training and sparing where I was taken aback at how my teacher/partner did something. Fortunately I have also been on the delivering end to a few people too that were in total shock that I pulled of a technique on them. In fact that was one of the moments I realized I had trained enough to just begin to act without deliberate fore thought. Got out of my head and just let it flow from all my training.
I find it interesting is that Lee went to Tom Laughlin and Han Bong-Soo ( Billy Jack ) on how to make a Martial Arts movie. I also think it's cool that Bolo and Van Damme became really good friends.
Tom Kelly a 7th degree black belt under Ed Parker founder of Khenpo Karate told me that "after 4 years training under Ed Parker's tutelage 'no one could beat him,NO ONE ' he (Bruce) was just unbeatable. I (Tom Kelly) was quick but he(Bruce Lee) would hit me 3 times while I was trying to hit him once. He was just unbeatable." Tom Kelly lives and teaches in OK if he is still alive. Thank you for some really fascinating accounts of one of my favorite martial arts films. You have done an enormous amount of work here and it shows! I have one comment about this movie, how there is a major plot glitch: while you have just cleared up for me why Bolo didn't fight Lee's character -- something I've always wondered about -- I find myself perplexed about why Han's "personal guard (his daughters, as he says) completely disappeared from any of the final fight scenes. I always thought they should have been at play throwing darts at Lee's character while he fights others. What do you think? Was this a missed opportunity and a failure to develop an interesting plot line, or what? I always end up thinking about crazy ideas like this. Your video really got me going, so thanks again!
Bruce Lee and Michael Jordan will forever be talked about and have their greatness questioned which is a testament to how unique of a talent they truly are.

Loving the big jump in quality on your videos. Legendary.
I haven't watched the video yet but I know Bolo and Bruce Lee never fought each other on set. It was actually a stunt double who challenged Bruce Lee to a fight. There are a few interviews of people who were on set that spoke about the incident.

Loved his son as well and now Shannon, Bruce's daughter has taken over from Linda running the Bruce Lee foundation. I bought a rose wood staff from them and it will hang in my living room for all to see. I also bought 2 fighting sticks. The Foundation helps underprivileged children and supports other charities. I just love that family, amazing legacy 🙏
is the best mr Lee still # 1 champion in martial arts no matter how many years pass he is a legend and will continue to be in martial arts
I started cracking up at neck strength vs knockout bit...! lmfao
Thanks for setting the record straight
I can't believe Bruce and Bolo had any sort of beef lol. That's ridiculous lol.

Bolo is still alive... Ask him.
Awesome video on misinformation in our everyday lives! I'm ashamed to admit that I believed some of those stories about this "feud".
Bruce was ahead of his time by decades. He combined the best that was available at the time. Combined Western boxing with traditional martial arts, etc. Open to any style and method, he traveled around meeting and sharing with with other martial artists. He died in 1973, 50 years ago now. If still still alive he'd be 83 today. I hate it how fools say he wouldn't win in an MMA match. First he wasn't into sports fights as he personally stated. Although he did help many others like Chuck Norris and Joe Lewis who dominated the fighting sports at the time. You can say Bruce invented MMA even. He certainly was the inspiration for many MMA fighters as they attest to themselves. The egos attacking Bruce. Seen many of them on YT (not talking of Goldenbell Training here). They just can't accept the will never be a good nor famous as Bruce.

This is what people say about Bruce, but not all of it is true, unfortunately. I get called a hater for pointing it out, but it doesn't make it any less true. There are some things that Bruce couldn't make work. It's in writing from some of his students.
@joeneighbor

@@GoldenbellTraining What did I say, that wasn't true? He was phenomenal for his time period. Read his writings (some that come from his notes, etc). Like how he figured out how do to feints, how to move without showing a tell. That he figured out how to strike with a direct motion with out body windup, but add body twist at end just before the strike, etc. Not to say he necessarily invented it all. He studied fencing to learn about the fine arts of feints. Got a lot from Joe Louis's books. One was his favorite. In my profession, I'm considered an expert. I don't call my self that, but it's what people tell me. I'm constantly getting after it, I dedicate myself to it. Like Bruce did, I read a lot, see what others are doing, experiment, learn. I know though, there are better people than me out there. That's just the way it goes. Could I be the best in the world? Maybe.
Thank you my brother. Thats why i hit the subscribe button !!! You allways speak the facts
You spoke all facts you definitely hit this one out of the park.
Bolo Yze had long 🎥 acting career fighting Bruce exportation actors like Bruce Le , Dragon Lee in front of the camera. Bolo had NO ego or strife towards the smaller actors who defeated his characters. A consistent professional Threw & threw 👏👏👏!! If he can be like that towards imitators OF COURSE He's like that towards The Original!! I think Bruce was YERY Impressed with Bolo ( there's not of Chinese Men like Bolo in the 70's) I ,👀 closely at each man's demeanor & body language. I 👀 neutral respect between the 2 as colleges & co-stars 🤝.
This was entertaining. Good photo-illustrations.
When I was a kid I was so disappointed they didn't have a fight in the movie. Especially since on the vhs I had on the cover it showed lee and bolo having a fight

That one photo of Bruce having Bolo in an armbar and John Saxon on the ground too, that was most likely Bruce smoothing out the choreography for the Bolo-Saxon fight scene, not Bruce fighting Bolo and Saxon at the same time.
One Thing We Have To Understand Is Iz That It's Not About Weight Or Ht It's What You Know And Can Do With Skills. Mind Body And Soul.
Anyone who knows what kung fu is and where your power comes from, and has watched Bruce Lee their whole lives, knows that he really was an amazing human. Half man, half something else. I like Bolo too. Thank you for this rational look at what happened on the set. Bruce was not at all fake, and that's that. Just like there is the I'Ching, Lao Tzu, and Chuan Tzu.. there is Bruce Lee. He is someone you can study forever, and always learn. No one had an answer for Bruce. Great job, I am compelled to subscribe

Great comment! Bruce Lee's name absolutely belongs amongst the names you mentioned. Everyone talks about his physical capabilities, which were absolutely astonishing, but they pale in comparison to the capabilities of his mind. Also, I can't recommend strongly enough for people to subscribe to this channel. Prince, Goldenbell Training, is credible, very knowledgeable, informative, prolific, and entertaining. He's made many great videos regarding Bruce Lee.
Bruce Lee and Bolo were good friends in real life. They did a commercial ad before ETD. "That" channel is tarnishing Bruce's rep by making this stuff up. It's only a matter of time before everyone figures that out.

Never underestimate ones opponent. No matter how good one is . I know I'm not . But these two are kung fu icons. They cool
As I listen to this I think about the Jackie Chan interview where he mentions “Bruise kicked him unintentionally and hurt him bad, then apologized after the cameras stopped.”
Bruce Lee The LEGEND AND FOREVER WILL BE!!! 🌹❤️
How can anyone hate on Bruce Lee, the man is a legend, and brought kung fu to the masses, popularized martial arts in film. Everyone of my age(50) and younger, also older grew up watching his movies.
its so refreshing to hear that all the cameramen, stuntmen, actors, extras, prop people and thier families _kept thier mouth shut for 50 years about this incident_ i mean, everything that could pissibly be written was written about Bruce Lee after his death, except this? nope.
I love it when you say the Northern eagle claw😂
Actually, next to Bruce, Bolo is by far, the next most memorable. I'm sure both of them appreciated each other just because of shear existence of each other. I believe Bolo has and treasures those moments together and having nothing but truth between them. Hollywood was afraid of Bruce.
I’m even more curious as to why Bolo vs Chuck Norris never happened given that both of these are still alive and have so much fight filmography between them.
Great video, thanks!
Yoooo!!! The commentary is just too savage! Ahhh 😱 I love this 💩! I subbed.
You are on point, Bruce is a force of wisdom and strength with skills that we all appreciate. 👊🦶🙌

It's crazy how some people will just make up stories or take any source as legit, especially talking about people they don't deserve to be associated with and would never be in the same room. Speaking of which Bruce was too good for this world.
