WHAT MAKES PICO ISLAND SO SPECIAL TO ME

What makes Pico Island so special to me is it´s majestic volcano. There are many beautiful places on this island but there is nothing quite like being close to Pico mountain. Lying in one of the meadows at its foothills, watching the clouds floating by its slope and listening to the grass whispering in a gentle breeze is truly so special.
I hope you enjoy. Thank you for being here!

We all have a special place that makes us happy. The foothills are beautiful here. You can see bears once in a while. Going down the path you never know what you will find. After fishing I clean my catch and Nancy gets the corn meal and eggs. The fish is put in the egg and then in the corn meal. They are baked until they are crisp. That is the best way to eat trout. Now with the hatchery near us the fish population will increase dramatically. Pico is beautiful. The smell of fresh air awakens the senses. Better is one day in your peaceful place than thousands elsewhere.

@@RahelStadler I've lived in grassland areas for years and where I live in western Canada there are still places where they exist in an entirely natural state. They make for fabulous wandering with views of distant horizons and sightings of wild animals such as pronghorns can happen. Strangely this animal is a relative of the giraffe. As for the grass bouquets, I found out that they are usually made from pampas grass which originated in Brazil, Argentina and Chile. These are sold around the world to flower shops as bouquets or decorative grass from producers in various locations. It seems that the type of beloved grass such as in your video is not really used as bouquets, although I don't see why not.

You are so lucky to live in an area where glasslands still exist in their entirely natural state. I don't think I have ever been wandering in your kind of environment but it's sounds mind blowing! I picture it a bit like the tundra in Lappland or Alaska in terms of the vastness and views of distant horizons which you are describing. Thank you so much for extending my internal horizons in regards to the grass bouquets. I had no idea about the traditional grass bouquets in South America. It's so interesting.

Hi Rachel Last night we spent the evening with our friends, the Morgan's celebrating Father's Day. During our evening, the Morgan's asked me what my life philosophy was and I told them that essentially I tried to practice with the Japanese in Okinawa call the Ikigai. On the island of Okinawa people live longer than they do anywhere else in the world. They are also far more active to a later age it is not uncommon for people in their 90s to be very active in their every day lives. I notice in your artwork and in your philosophy about living life, especially your newer videos a lot of Ikigai. Below is a description of Ikigui and also a photo of people practicing that philosophy by sitting in the garden at sunset and enjoying a Chicken and Waffle dinner prepared for their father on father's day Thanks E.C. For inviting us to your place for that pleasant evening. Here is a quick synopsis of Ikigui. Ikigai is a concept that originated in Japan, and it translates to "the reason for being" or "the joy of living." It is a philosophical approach to finding personal fulfillment in one's life by identifying and pursuing one's passions, skills, and purpose. The idea of Ikigai suggests that each individual has a unique purpose or calling that they can discover and develop over time. By doing so, they can find a sense of meaning and satisfaction in their lives that goes beyond external achievements and successes. At the core of Ikigai lies the belief that everyone has the potential to make a valuable contribution to the world. This contribution is not just about career success but also about finding satisfaction in personal relationships, leisure activities, and other aspects of life. It involves determining what drives and motivates an individual, and using that as the basis for finding a fulfilling career, hobby, or other passion. Many people find that pursuing their Ikigai leads to a more fulfilled and balanced life, and can even contribute to better mental health. By taking the time to reflect on their values, interests, strengths, and contributions, individuals can identify their Ikigai and pursue it in meaningful ways. While the concept of Ikigai has its roots in Japanese culture, it has gained popularity and relevance across many cultural contexts. In a world where many people struggle to find purpose and fulfillment in their lives, Ikigai provides a simple yet powerful framework for discovering one's calling and pursuing a life of joy, meaning, and purpose.

Hello Dorn. Thank you for sharing. I am familiar with the lifestyle of older people of Okinawa and the philosophy of Ikigai. I came across it many years ago but have lost sight of it ever since and certainly haven't actively follow this philosophy, at least not consciously. I'm glad though that you see some of it in my more recent videos because Ikigai is definitely a way of living which I find very enriching and even though I haven't actively tried to integrate it into my life yet, it is a wonderful reminder and I greatly appreciate it.

What a wonderful video of the grass. Timeless, vast, somehow majestic and quiet at the same time! Once again Rahel you have helped some of us to wake up and smell the roses (oops--"The Grass") Do you know that the smell the grass gives off when it is cut is a warning to other plants that there is danger present and to tell them to protect themselves, which they do by producing enzymes which provide them with additional protection against insects! That's wonderful! I think whatever time we have available for our holidays it never seems long enough and it always seems too soon to go back home. I personally think that it's a matter of perspective. The more we want to do or see the more we get stressed about time. The more we slow down and allow ourselves to miss out on things to do and see the more time we have. Being present is probably the best way to explore a place, we don't necessarily need to see or do a lot. Enjoy your time here, doesn't matter for how long, it will definitely do it's magic. Best wishes to you!

Everyone dreams but not equally. Those who dream at night in the dusty recesses of their mind wake in the day to find it was only vanity. But the dreamers of the day are a dangerous sort, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them happen. As you’ve done

I have to confess, I paraphrased that from something I read a long time ago. It ties into another video of yours I saw where you stopped/quieted the clutter of the mind by going to those beautiful tide pools. It’s easier to dream with eyes wide open when we can still the mind. That pesky brain tries so hard to keep us all from mindfulness and living in the moment. Ironic since all we ever have is now

I'm not sure Sole Mate is either. Maybe a new word needs to be created to define the relationship between a place and a person. Now watch someone come up with Symbiotic. That word is good but not specific enough to define the relationship between you and Pico Island. If you feel the Volcano rumble a little bit it may be because it agrees with me. ♥
