What Makes Mexican Boxers So Great?

Спорт

Build Your Fight Style: www.modernmartialartist.com/d...
Mexican boxers have consistently put on some of the most exciting bouts in the history of the sport. Known for their relentless aggression, they can overwhelm opponent’s with dangerous maneuvers and tactics from the very start of the fight. McGregor famously bragged that he had turned Mayweather into a Mexican when Floyd got aggressive during the later rounds of their unprecedented boxing match. Fighters like Julio Cesar Chavez, Canelo Alvarez, and Ricardo Lopez are infamous for their incredible displays of refined ferocity in the squared circle.

Im a mexican amateur boxer, and there are a lot of quotes in the different gyms, but some of the most repeated are: "Mexican boxers are not taught on how to box backwards" "Mexicans are very related to death through our culture, so when we face the grim, we dont run from her, we face and dance with her" "The day poverty is over, boxing ends. Only a few from medium class have the guts, but highers classes dont have it: sometimes the anger from an unfair life with no chances is needed to do whatever you need to do in this cruel sport " "there's no place to hide in a ring" Maybe later i will edit for typo

I remember back in the 90s when I met a Mexican former champion, he was champion back in the 80s, and I asked him if he liked getting hit (stupid question, I know) and his answer stuck with me ever since: "sometimes you have to get hit once to hit back 2-3 times". This I believe is the heart of every Mexican champion. No fear of an exchange with the mindset that you will win that, and every exchange. Although not Mexicans, I would also like to add Alexis Arguello and Roberto Duran to the list as thoroughly "Mexican" fighters. Great video as always and I will always look forward to your next one.

I remember when Juan Manuel Marquez was facing Michael Katsidis, Juan was asked if he thought his chin would hold up against Katsidis' power, he answered "I don't intend to find out". Which was a smart answer since it's dangerous to test your chin against a puncher. That said, Marquez knew he'd have to take some shots in order to land his own, which he did.

@@foolinafight4051 gotta remember though that Mexican is a nationality not a specific race. Mexicans have been mixed with different native tribes for thousands and thousands of years and recently European y chromosome add mixture. Mexican isn't its own race or whatever social construct. It's a place and a culture. Mexicans are mostly mestizos. Native American mothers and Iberian fathers. So what I'm saying you can't be half Mexican but one of your parents or two of your grandparents can be if they're from there. Duran was born and raised in Panama. His DNA would still probably be Native American x chromosome and Iberian y chromosome.

So the ones who lived are the ones who didn't get knocked out as easy and thus Mexicans have hard heads! I totally came up with this theory, it has no basis in anything, just a theory.

You are so right about Mexican boxing being ultimately based on "machismo culture." Mexico has a long history of ranching and farming which is where American cowboys learned to be a cowboy. In this Mexican ranch environment it is well known that a "Mulo" (mule) is much stronger, tuffer, and that it can carry a load over a longer distance than a horse. In Mexican culture the mulo is the everyday example for all Mexican men. You don't quit. You carry the load. You go the distance. You suffer the consequences. This attitude and heart is what gives Mexican boxers their reputation. I would add that this is the reason Mexican boxers also go by the rule of "no hugging and no running." Its more like Roman gladiator times. You stand your ground and fight.

The thing i liked about Chavez style, or even moreso Lopez style, was that it didn't rely on inherent physical attributes like speed, reflexes, or power. As long as you had the conditioning (which can be trained) you could use the style to simply breakdown your opponent and render any physical advantages they might have over you irrelevant. They're faster? Set traps for them and walk them onto punches (Barrera vs Hamed, JMM vs Pac) They're stronger? Get close, don't give em space for big punches, and break them down with combos and infighting (Chavez vs well, everyone) Etc.

@@AT-zg9ov A quitter is someone who can very much continue, but decides not to. The only justified reasons to stop a fight is if they have a broken jaw or a fractured eye socket. Not through getting a little cut or having a sore hand. Ricardo Lopez was getting beat up by Alvares as well as getting dropped. The jump up in class compared to what he was used to fighting was clear. Lopez didn't like it one bit. But not only that, Alvares was well ahead on any sane person's card in completed rounds. Yet Lopez and his team were very comfortable in going to the cards and believing they would get the decision. So not only is he a quitter, he's corrupt as well. He knew Don King would do for him what he did for many Mexicans. The same things Mexicans get done for them in this day and age with all the mass corruption and cheating. Chavez was a quitter. Morales. Chavez's son, Jr. Manuel Medina and so on and so forth. There's just so many who have quit in fights.

That's tight that your Wife is a Mexicana, Brother. Mexican Style is more of a Philosophy than a different Fighting Style. In Pro Boxing, four overall Styles exist: Outboxer, Infighter, Counterpuncher, and a Brawler/Swarmer/Slugger. Some Legends master one Style. Some master multiple of the Styles. Julio Cesar Chavez is one of the Greatest Infighters in History. Many of other Mexican Legends worked out of the Mid-Range as Counterpunchers. A few like "Golden Boy" Oscar de la Hoya were Outboxers. Canelo Alvarez switched from a Swarmer to more of a Counterpuncher after Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. ultimately schooled and educated him in the Ring. Canelo has arguably the greatest Head slip in Boxing History.
