Pacquiao was chosen 3x fighter of the year and fighter of the decade of 2000's not Floyd. Pac continued fighting until achieving legendary career while Floid still running his loudmouth. It wasn't the match of the century, or even the match of the year, because it was so one sided. Most people consider a good match to be one that is competitive. If you go back and look at Tommy Hearns vs Sugar Ray, Ali vs Frazier in 1971, or Tommy Hearns (again) vs Marvin Hagler, you will see fights that are considered some of the best boxing matches in the history of the sport. This was an amazing display of Manny's skills and an incredible personal achievement, but Margarito did not do anything to make this match look like anything more than a high level sparring match. Great fight, though, and very entertaining to watch.

    Who the heck says this win doesn't count? Yeah, sure, Margarito got caught cheating before this, but that plaster in his gloves wouldn't've meant diddly if he wasn't also reeeeaaaalllly good a landing those punches. And if this a$$ whoopin' makes one think Margarito was nothing but a bum and circumstantial champion, one oughta think again. Margarito is 0% a chump, Pac-Man was just that good. Copy-Paste Ricky Hatton, and even an old Golden Boy. Dudes just couldn't hang, and there's no shame in that. But I don't know why I'm rambling this at you, you obviously know all that already.

He had a broken family, had to stop school just to feed himself and his family, was very poor, wasnt really the most good looking man, very short and very skinny. Before he started boxing, he had no great physical advantage whatsoever. What he has now is really about hardwork, smart skills, courage, strength, endurance and determination all packed into a man and he really deserved it!! God bless you and your family Manny!! Both Pac and May are great boxers. Different boxing styles and different paths taken. Money May is more of a businessman, marketing himself very well to earn the most possible there is. Makes sure he has the advantage before going to the fight making his winning more likely. Pacquiao on the other hand is a fighter from start to end of his career. He fights best when he is the under dog. He pushes himself beyond limits to achieve what no one has ever done. You have to respect both. They define their success differently, and you should just recognize and accept that. They are different yet both great. Just be thankful that we witnessed both in our lifetime.

People forget that both have different styles and clearly Floyd Mayweather made sure he took Manny very seriously. You can tell he often talk yes he won but he never said something like fighting Manny is easy. You have to understand what skills Floyd had to do like parry block and evasion to the heights of his training to not get really hurt or fazed by Manny.

Mayweather may be great. But he ain't doing boxing no favors. He's helping the sport degrade. He's like the one really popular kid in school that aces all his tests but brags about it to everyone while Pacquiao be the really hardworking kid that helped his class learn and study while still being ontop.

    Good narrative. What was not shown here was a 4th round sweeping uppercut by Manny, that everyone thought was a miss. But if you look carefully at the full fight footage, you'll see that it was with that swing that Manny tore open the cut below Antonio Margarito (AM)'s right eye. This was the cut that was the beginning of the end for AM (as he later admitted during post fight ring interview. Nearly blind by the 10th, and smashed by a late 10th round right hook, AM was basically a punching bag. Starting at the end of the 10th and through the 11th and 12th, Manny kept trying to get the ref's attention to stop the fight. Finally by the 12th Manny himself mercifully turned down the attack and carried AM throughout the 12th.

    I was too young to understand this when the fight went live, but watching it now? That's some grit and stamina for both fighters. I'm only watching but I'm exhausted by round 8. And here I see Pacman still having fast footwork and quick combos up to Round 9!

    A most excellent breakdown. Margarito, to his credit, was probably in the best shape he had ever been and hurt Pacquiao so many times that he immediately rejected any offer to defend that 154 title. To Pacquiao's credit, he knew he reached his physiological limit. Fighting at Middleweight would've shortened his career tangling with boxers who might come in at Cruiserweight on fight night. Although, a Canelo matchup would've been epic.

    He didnt hurt Pacquiao.. I remember Pacquiao not wanting to fight at 154 and knew his limit because after that match he stated he couldn't sign autographs due to his fists being so swollen. Pacquiao def picked a extremely durable fighter to fight at 154.

    Excellent breakdown, man. I really appreciate the time and editing you put into this masterpiece of a video. I remember watching this live and rewatching it many times throughout the years. You are the first to pick up on many pivotal shots that both Pacquiao and Margarito landed, especially round 6 when Manny had to bite down. Great stuff. I really hope you continue to provide these in the future.

    Yes! Those were the days! Pacquiao always said that "I only want to make people happy!" and he did for his whole fighting career. There was a feel of living dangerously on the edge. I remember being perplexed at his goofy smile when he walked into the ring to fight Margarito. Then he goes on to win his 8th division title. What a legendary fighter!

    That 6th round liver punch by Margarito is so hard to catch. Really wonder what his image would be if there was a bit more power, he got more luck, or the ropes weren't there to catch Manny. Still, I think one of Pacquiao's greatest strengths during this titles run was figuring out how to make his height disadvantage into an asset. He used his speed, mobility, power, and unpredictability to make bigger fighters really look sluggish in comparison.

    6th round from a beat up margarito is equivalent to a no power punch at all. The first 3 rounds emit power from a not so tired boxer, but after that, boxers do get tired, and in Margarito’s case pretty beat up, tired, may land a jab but absolutely no effect on manny whatsoever

    @@Unit27 it’s called evasive maneuvers defense, wildly discussed in this video. Why do you think manny won. Do you really think after 5 rounds of being a punching bag, you have power? Understandably the first the first two rounds. Try it.

  • @Unit27

    @Unit27

    @@BR-th4tb Manny was far superior the whole fight, I'm not arguing that. Still, rewatch 10:44, see how Manny's movement immediately changes after the 2nd blow to the liver, how he crouches and compacts the guard around his body, leaving the head completely open. He felt that shot. If Margarito had a bit more accuracy or luck with the follow ups, he could have scored a knockdown there before Manny regained his footing. Manny had a lot of tools that gave him an advantage over larger, slower fighters. Margarito didn't lack power, he lacked the tools and game plan to make one of the fastest, most surprising fighters of all time, stop long enough to deliver. No one at the time could. That's why the fight ended up being so one sided.

    Manny landed many fast multiple punches. He was usually nice and close to Margarito and punch him with full power. I was amazed Margarito was still standing after getting so many powerful blows in a row. He must be made of steel. Manny hits fast, hard and with many combinations. Its difficult to impossible to stop him.
