    He had the longest lasting gimmick out of any wrestler. The longest career by far, regardless of how many injuries he accrued. If you needed to put some life into the company, you just had the dead man feud with someone. Taker gave just as much as he received, never had an ego like some of the other greats. Truly lived for the business and helped pull it through tough times. Taker never jumped ship from WWE for any other company. Was so entertaining to watch, from his original run to the American Badass, back to his Dead man persona. Easily in the top 5 wrestlers of all time for me! Thank you Taker, for all the great memories!

    What's so remarkable about The Undertaker's entrance is the consistency and the fact that everyone would be glued to the screen despite seeing it a hundred times. It’s a Generational thing. Cena was never my guy, but. He was in a house show in the Netherlands, in a TLC match, completely blew the litt of like it was Wrestlemania. His work with make a wish, his complete committement to the gimmick with the rapping and alienating him from his peers and legends to keep his believably selling himself. HANDS DOWN, the GREATEST character of all-time. The fact that he took a cartoon gimmick (that many thought wouldn’t last more than about 4/5 yrs) and literally stood the test of time, truly speaks volumes to Taker’s dedication and passion for the sport. NO ONE comes close. His entrance is an entire production, and no one else has that. The effects from the purple lights, the smoke, the pyro, the gong and theme, Taker’s mannerisms, etc.; just all meshed so well. A lot of his earlier matches were meh, but now I understand why after he stated that he focused more so on building the character rather than having a 5 star match. He’s like a bottle of fine wine, only got better over time. We got several gimmick matches built around his character and his character even spawned another successful character in Kane. He’s the 🐐.

    One additional quality that should be mentioned is his ability to adept to any style and any era, with as subtle or as radical changes to his gimmick as necessary. Other wrestler usually had one era in which they were great. Hogan and Warrior were cartoon era super heroes, Bret Hart led the New Generation era and Steve Austin fit the style of the Attitude era, but the Undertaker was equally great in all of them.

  • @DarthwRath
    @DarthwRath6 ай бұрын

    Yup, to me he is The GOAT and he's ahead everyone else by quite a distance. He was so convincing as a possessed dead man because of his dedication to his craft. Almost 30 years of living within the shadows, that will probably never be repeated again. The streak as well, one of the longest story lines in all entertainment. The Rock may be the biggest star, Austin may be the most explosive SOB, Hogan is the first star, But Taker was completely a different thing. He is the judge, jury and executioner in the wrestler's court for a reason. No one has ever said anything bad about him. Generations of wrestlers not only respects him, but openly admits to wishing they could have a fraction of his illustrious career. And you can't forget or not credit Jim Johnson who was a huge part of it all with that iconic theme song. The entrance is always brilliantly choreograph, it's just perfect. And in the ring? He is one of the greatest performer in the business no less. Being 7 feet tall and doing high flying moves (missile dives over top rope to outside the ring), walking on ropes, strength, agility, endurance, theatrics, persona and whatever else, you name it, he has it. Honestly there's just too many things to write to properly tell the story, the eye roll, neck slice with long tongue taunt, elemental controls (fog, darkness, lightning, fire), the cult gimmick (Ministry of Darkness)....seriously, I'm gonna have to spend few weeks to list it all so I'll stop here. All that is why I would place him in the highest throne. You just had to be there to really understand and feel it. If you grew up in the 1990s-2010s, you would understand it and be glad you saw the greatest performer in the greatest era. The Undertaker = The GOAT

    I think something that contributes to the Undertaker's legacy is the number of times he got screwed out of certain victories (vs Michaels at HIAC and Casket Match, vs McMahon at Buried Alive, vs Mankind in the Boiler Room Brawl, vs Yokozuna in the Casket Match, vs Kane in HIAC, in the Elimination Chamber, etc. etc.). It made us all the more eager to see his inevitable return and vengeance (usually with a super-cool entrance to follow). There was a lot of trust put in the Undertaker character; that he could lose as consistently as he had to (whether for the business, or to take time off), but that he would still look good in doing so, and that the payoff would eventually follow. That's a part of why the Undertaker was, and still is, one of the greatest characters in modern professional wrestling.

    The fact what sold the character more is that Taker maintained Kayfabe till the time he hanged up his boots. Hardly appeared in public, seldom gave interviews without his in ring persona. He was fully committed to his character. That's hardly the case with anybody today. MJF might be the only exception. Don't believe in wrestling but believe in me.

    As well as his matches, his promos, and everything else about him, I will really miss that opening bell tolling. It gives me goosebumps even after 30+ years watching WWE. I saw him live soon after his first face turn on a UK tour. He was facing Papa Shango in the semi main event (main was Bret Hart vs Yoko i think) and the moment that bell tolled, the f***ing roof came off the arena, the atmosphere in that arena was like nothing else I have ever experienced and seeing the guy close up, I was not prepared for the sheer scale of the man, and the character felt like he was another few feet taller than Mark is himself, an awesome moment I will never forget. I won't say there will never be another like him, but certainly not in my lifetime - I thought Bray Wyatt could have become something like taker, but he was taken from us too soon, I don't think there's been another character with the same poise, presence and mystique - Mankind and Bray (for me) came closest (at least from the perspective of guys who played with borderline otherworldly or near inhuman gimmicks, and Papa Shango - when you take into account the era that character existed in he was a pretty special character (well, to me at least lol), the curse of Papa Shango storyline with the Ultimate Warrior damned near gave me nightmares at the time, it was creepy AF - and that was in the era of repo men, clowns, spacemen, and trash collecters lol. Greatest character in wrestling history by a looooooong way, and one of the best Men playing the role for all that time too, Taker's leadership and the example he set for backstage conduct is a legacy Mark should be damned proud of as well as his in ring achievements.

    One thing I've always noticed, and which shows just how much of a respectful gentleman The Undertaker is, when he tombstones Vickie Guerrero at 19:11 is how much lower he has her so that his head is plenty far away from her... uh, "personal space"

    Undertaker is the one and only GOAT. His appearance, charisma, longevity, the streak that was only broken few years ago by Brock Lesnar, his entrance and the dead man theme music and portrayal of the undertaker character make him the GOAT for me. when did John Cena joined the company. John is arguably one of the best ever in WWE but the undertaker is the one and only GOAT of WWE.

    I loved the entrance because it always caused "anxiety" to the other wrestlers. Orton once said that even though he was confident in what the match would be you cant help but feel nervousness and awe when he does that slow walk down the ramp. His best entrances were the entrances with the druids. If they came out you never knew if the entrance was going to be really drawn out or if they were just sending a message to his prey. His character is the best character of all time. Only bad thing i have to say about taker is his promos always seemed lacking specially anything ABA and prior. Once he got rid of the ABA gimmick his promos got better and you could tell he was more comfortable with talking.

    Taker vs Michaels career vs streak is the greatest wrestling match of all time. There's few matches that come close not only to the story, stakes and performances, but the delivery of it as well. It was a masterpiece and it still is. I think Omega vs Ospreay at Wrestlekingdom is the best recent match I've seen but even it doesn't reach the levels of that match. Taker truly was a one in one gift for wrestling.

    The Undertaker was my favorite wrestler from the first time I ever saw him, all the way through to today, retired or not. I just don't see anyone surpassing him in my eyes. The guy is an absolute legend in the business. From the ring to backstage, he left a mark on the industry that will never fade. His character, his catch phrases and promos, his moves, about him is iconic. He's the GOAT and always will be.

    The Undertaker is a unique character. I'm from the Hulk Hogan generation, and while the Last Warrior was my fancy as a kid, when Undertaker got to scene, my mom and I, absolute fans from Spain, would always say: Here he is... This will be fun. This man has my absolute respect, as a person and as a wrestler. He is, as our guest well said, THE last boss. If anyone could take The undertaker down, that was someone with champion worth quelity. For me, now as an adult, I can say that having a date with him in the ring is the same as having a date with Death herself. Only those with the power, will and the cheers from the fans who wish for their victory, could have the chance to defeat him. Just his special move proves how loved he is, not only by the fans, but by the industry. He is the only one, unless he declares a next undertaker, with an extra chance to raise from a down, and like an undead, with full force until the last breath.

    That was a great video! I enjoyed it even though I also had to sit through 78 commercials breaks!!! I don’t get why anything to do with this kind of wrestling has doubled and some times even triple the amount of breaks in the video?!? But besides that, I’ve always been a Undertaker fan! And when I stopped watching WWE because of my reasons I didn’t realize he came back for a bunch more matches! Including that horrible decision at WM with a wrestler that their poultry was already skyrocketing! Nothing really changed for him……. Except for he had something extra to talk about!!! It definitely could have been used to make a wrestler career that most fans didn’t care much for blow up! Or the way I feel like it should have been is NEVER BEATEN AT A WM EVENT!!! At all!!! And in that way they “COULD HAVE” used that streak as a storyline way down the road (possibly really really far down the road when fans started getting achieved from all the wrestling there is since there is a insane amount of it nowadays already and I don’t see that slowing down anytime soon) they could have 1 or 2 different wrestlers start building up a nice streak also. And if they went with 2 they could have them face off at a WM (obviously their streaks need to be at least over 10 wins but not past 21 by that point) and bamb, there is a 10 million dollar match right there! And then the winner just builds his or her streak until they now have the record! But unfortunately the huge Impact I’m talking about WILL NEVER HAPPEN now because of the choices that WWE writers chose to do instead!!! Very disappointing! Edit: I had to edit this thing twice because I got 3 phone calls while trying to write this one comment! WTH was that about lol
