SUMMARY:
- Eggs have been getting a bad rap in the health and fitness community because they are associated with cholesterol and weight gain. Others say they may trigger a heart attack, and people who want to lose weight usually remove eggs from their diet. But what if you tried to eat 3 eggs a day? You might be missing more benefits than you realized.
- Egg contain calories, protein, healthy fats, folate, calcium, zinc, phosphorus, selenium, and vitamins A, B5, B12, B2, D, E, K, and B6. They also contain omega-3 fatty acids and dietary cholesterol.
- A large egg contains about 6 g of high-quality protein, which may help you eat less for several hours after a meal. As a result, this helps you lose weight.
- Egg yolks contain lutein, which helps reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration and cataracts. It contains zeaxanthin, which protects you from the sun’s harmful UV rays.
- Egg yolks improve bone metabolism and prevent the risk of osteoporosis. They are also a source of iron.
- The yolks can also help to prevent birth defects during pregnancy. Vitamin B is important for the development of the spinal cord and fetal nervous system. It also helps prevent breast cancer, according to a study.
- There are 4 types of eggs, and they are organized based on where the hen is raised and fed. Brown and white eggs have the same nutritional value according to the USDA (who debunked all previous myths on this matter).
- A study from the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Connecticut revealed that a person who consumes 3 eggs a day may experience more of an increase in good cholesterol and decrease in bad cholesterol than someone who eats the same amount of egg substitute.

I haven't lost any weight, but instead I have gone from 63kg to 71kg, which means I'm not underweight anymore. Mental transformation has been huge, more energetic and positive. I could go all day listing the benefits. For example, I used to have a migren headache 1-2 times every month, and now I have had only 2 or 3 migrens in these last 2 years. Also, my back issues are gone, I can breathe better and I sleep less, but I wake up more energetic and less tired.

There's always a food made out as a villain in our weight and health struggles. When I was a kid,it was bread and pasta. I think that it depends more, on how much we eat,and how often, rather than what. My daddy ate white bread with every meal, and sunny side up eggs for breakfast every morning, and lived to be 91. And then it was pneumonia, that took him.

I’ve been eating an oatmeal, blueberry, protein powder, peanutbutter and milk proteing shake every morning and around 3 or 4 pm I’ll have 3 hard boiled eggs. I also walk/jog a few miles a day everyday and lift weights 3 times a week and I’ve lost 70 pounds. The shake and the eggs with about a half or whole galon of water a day keep me super satisfied and waaaay more energized than I originally thought they would.

For the last 3 months I have been eating 3 eggs a day along with either a piece of toast or 2 slices of bacon. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes about a month before I started this. Along with cutting my carbs at the rest of my meals I have lost 23lbs and when I had my A1C retested a week ago it had dropped from 10 to 6.4. My doctor says I've put my diabetes in remission, something I have never even heard of. I would say that 3 eggs a day isn't a bad thing at least.

I try to buy my eggs from a farm just down the HWY from me. They sell out early and if I realize that I need eggs and they are sold out my grocery store has eggs from pasture raised hens. I still prefer to see the hens running around the fields that surrounds the road side stand. The farmer usually plants sunflowers for them to forage in. It protects them from eagles. Their dog also alerts the hens when an eagle is flying close.

Thanks for this information. I would like to add to the facts, something I learning for rising chickens; when you stop feeding them Laying Feed, they will lay eggs naturally, but there are a couple of months toward the end of the year, when they don't lay many eggs, and that is the time when we are not suppose to eat plenty. So I think that the bad rap is from data, generated from conditions of eating too many eggs in that off period. And because of the commercialization, chickens are simulated to drop eggs consistently, for marketing purpose.

Eggs are my favorite food. I eat them in various form daily. Almost no meat or dairy in my diet. I frequently get them from neighbors who keep chickens in their yards. Baring that, I look for pasture eggs. I seem to recall that hormones are not allowed by law. “Free range” may mean nothing. If a factory corporate farm has a small spot where chickens are allowed to exit the cage (most won’t) they can legally call them “cage free”. They’re still being fed cheap corn and grains.

I have eaten 4 eggs every day scrambled with butter for breakfast everyday for around 30 years. I'm nearly 60, look in my 40s and feel it too, weigh 13 stone with muscular build and have normal cholesterol. I go to the gym 2-3 times a week and just eat normal balanced foods at other meals. SO MANY advice Doctors out there telling you this and that. I do take advice from some of these people but eat what I feel is right for me and my body. Eggs for me give me great natural protein and I also believe good skin. If I die tomorrow I'm sure it won't be because I ate too many eggs. For me eggs are essential to my diet and I'm convinced they help me keep good health and body and active life. :)
