Also, may be an idea to grease both ends of choke cable and the choke linkage on the carbs, as they can seize up and cause strain on the new cable(don't ask how I know!!!). I had my 250 for 13 years and it was fantastically reliable with only minimum maintenance. The weak points are the exhaust collector box rusting out, the stock shock absorbers leaking and a weak single front disc brake. All easily sorted, 2-1 exhaust, new shocks and braided metal brake lines, or fit a twin disc wheel/brake calipers and master cylinder. Also would advise oiling the speedo cable to help avoid corosion, as they can seize up and destroy the speedo drive in the wheel or in the tachometer, depending. You could try removing the front wheel, and check the dogs on the speedo drive on the hub. If they're bent, the speedo won't work. One way to test the rev counter is to disconnect the speedo cable, from the wheel end, put the cable into a cordless drill, spin it up and see if the rev counter needle moves. If it does, then the problem is at the drive end on the wheel.

Yuo forgot to adjust the valves. Check down by the Speedo houseing gear at the wheel. You have to take the front wheel off. I believe the O ring is a oil ring gasket that goes to another model.

They are a bit dull, but they go for ever, like most Honda CB's. Great bike for new riders economical low maintenance.

the round rubber gasket is for a different model. The filters fit both models, but the casing the gasket fits into is a different shape. I used to have a CB 250n Super Dream(250 Hawk in the states) and used to get both rubber seals with the replacement filters. I think the earlier Honda 250 G5 used the round one, or it may have been a CX500? Hope this helps. Steve.
