Hello my cousin family has mentally ill family members. They would benefit from support but are too paranoid and afraid. How can they be able to get support without worrying about delusions they have.

I have personal assistants to help me with personal care, it's really important to find the right individuals as it takes time to get used to each other. Direct payments mean that I can get up looking cared for and be a Mum, wife and work as a Hypnotherapist part time. Independent lives is a good place to look for those interested.

@@shanamzzz I expect now you've got it all sorted out but for anyone else wanting to know and reading this : you can learn on the job. There is mandatory training such a adult safeguarding and medication etc plus a nationally recognised qualification that you do alongside your work. There's also training specific to that employers needs such as hoist operation, stoma care and things like that. It's fun to learn alongside your physical shifts and the skills that you learn and your qualifications are yours to be proud of and take with you should you ever need to move on. I personally would rather have someone with the right qualities and train them than have someone who isn't supportive, or I just can't connect with but had all the qualifications in the world!

The sad part of being a PA, is that when you want to move on, you are not likely to get a recommendation from the person you are leaving. Why would they? After all, you realize the situation is untenable. So, you find the next client or two. And when they ask for your past history... ?

I believe it's 16 but many people don't get a job as a P.A until 18 and over. My youngest one was 21 when she started. I like them to have some life experience and maturity but that's not always an age thing.

In west Sussex there's an organisation called "independent lives" that can help. That said you can literally see an advertisement and apply for the role. The employer, like me will be happy to provide the training for the right person. I can teach a person how to carry out the tasks I need but I can't train someone in how to be a kind and caring person! To anyone reading this just go for it! Hit like if you've found this helpful!
