Dear Jay, thank you so much for this video. I have started as an admin last year and now PA. I had to switch from my industry and I completely went back to 0 in terms of learning about the new industry, having no training, not much help in terms of taking over the position.. long story short, I had extreme anxiety to the level I felt like useless. For weeks. Seeing your video helped clear my mind and remind me of the things I used to be able to tackle before I let anxiety and low self esteem get to me. Much appreciated. If you have more tips in terms of getting knowledge for industry from different departments and how to be confident enough to ask for help. 🙏🏻 your video helped so much!

Thank you so much! Brilliant guidance. 1. Don't wait for your boss to ask you to do something that you already know needs to be done. 2. Don't wing it! Ask questions, prepare, plan, be organized. Do the same for your executive! 3. Lose the thought that you're 'just an assistant!' you ARE critical to your executives success! 4. Do not offer your help or time that may distract you from your priorities, your executives! 5. Always be hungry to learn, from peers and from leaders. 6. Be a lifelong LEARNER! NETWORK and engage in continuous learning, especially tech! 7. Don't be complacent! 8. Prioritize time to recharge with self care, unplug, or you will burn out. 9. Always be yourself, you're unique, share your true self and make the role your own!

Hi - I was wondering if you could help me with this? How can I send the travel ticket details to someone, if I am booking their travel, the travel info comes from a travel agent, and its locked, I know i can unlock it by clicking on the padlock in the calendar, but I want to make sure that it shows up in their calendar if i send it to the executive, so that they know that they have an upcoming trip. Should i just forward it to him after I unlock it? or If i book it without the travel agent, the airline company will send the confirmation email with all the details, how can i send this to him and how can he check online, through the calendar ? Also if I am in NYC and booking a trip for someone who is traveling from NYC to France, I try to send the calendar invite, click on time zone, put the departure time (when the flight takes off)in our time zone, and landing time in France time, when I hit send, will that show up as an international time zone on their calendar once they land in France?

Yes! It's a part of the role but remember it's flexible as well. Mine is fully remote so I can be free for an hour in the afternoon to get things done. Make sure to have access to all your tools on your phone as well. Being available to your executives at any time will give you respect and growth in the long run. Like she said however, don't be afraid to say that you are not able to get it done right now but will later. Give respect get respect, most importantly love what you do! If you don't love being an EA you won't succeed.

How do you set limits with the person you're an assistant to? I've heard this job referred to as a 24/7 position but you need to be able to take care of yourself as well. If someone who is not your family is going to need your help 24/7 then they have a big problem (possibly an attitude problem).

Personally, if you are being compensated properly for working 24/7 then I wouldnt mind not really having a life (essentially). HOWEVER in saying this, you need to WANT to work 24/7. This is not something I am interested in which is why I can set limits with my boss. They need to understand that you also have a life to live and sometimes will not be able to meet their demands. It needs to be a compromise I feel, but obviously you would need to sit with them to discuss the ins and outs of how this would work!

My boss gets mad for me charging and then limited my weekly schedule so it’s now hard to prepare and stay on top of tasks. I don’t work for free and I don’t know how I’m able to do my job properly if I don’t have time to do the tasks in those two days. What do u recommend. It’s making me really resentful

This is an excellent question. If you are a contractor it can be hard to manage expectations but ideally you want to express to them that in the amount of time they have you, you will be able to complete certain amount of tasks. Be honest and upfront. If you don’t have enough time to complete a task or manage their schedule, you should be bringing this to their attention. After all, your time is not free.

Been a Personal assistant since 2015, I just got an Executive Assistant job and I'll be starting in 2weeks. I'm kind of wondering how different or similar the 2 are. I'm a little nervous

Congratulations and good luck with the new role! They’re quite similar but some tasks may differ in the sense where you may be dealing with a lot more confidential information.
