I actually am into cars and I have analyzed the way normal people look at them. People do care, but not in the way you would imagine. There are a few tiers of the way non-enthusiast people interpret your car: normal, nice, rich, and supercar. They make a small judgement depending on the level of perceived ‘niceness’ but you can easily make your car appear nicer for not much money. A good example is a 5 year old Mercedes. You avoid the depreciation curve and can get a car that elevates social status for like $15k

He didn't disclose his mortgage rate, worse if he has an adjustable. Generational wealth is something for very rich people, not fireman. He should be concerned with his next generation, if he works something out for the next two generations, ok. The key to generational wealth is who you marry? Do you marry someone who brings value, or sucks value out of you? Are they they right match or will they divorce you and take half your assets and income? This aspect of financial planning is under discussed. So many people just follow the chemistry. Chemistry can wear off.
