Washington, D.C. has the entire House of Representatives and Senate representing their interests, plus all the aides who actually run the government. Washington, after all, is one of the wealthiest places in the United States despite providing almost no useful goods or services. Besides this, D.C. cannot constitutionally be a state unless it ceases to be the capital - and in that case the most reasonable thing would be to return the city to the state which donated the land, Maryland.

Singaporian independence is unique as the Malaysian government was so racist that they wouldn't allow Singapore to stay a part of Malaysia. That and Malaysia was also afraid that Singapore would become the heart of Malaysia; which based on how powerful they have become now despite being a city-state, they were right to be concerned.

The Possession that if becomes a Territory would be a recipe for a border dispute, would be the Guantanamo Bay, where the U.S. shares a (land) border with Cuba. And if Midway were to finally become a Territory, the Midway would be a tourist attraction similar to Britain's island of Bermuda. And Midway consists of 2 islands, not just 1. And a combined land area similar to that of Bermuda. The tiniest possession to possibly become a Territory would be Navassa Island near Haiti and Cuba, with a land area of only 3 square miles.

I think you shouldn't have lied about your Puerto Rico Poll results. The Incorporated Territory of PR is split near 50/50 on being a state and stating where they are as a majority want statehood is the most uninformed "fact" I've ever seen on this channel. If you look at the two main political parties in Puerto Rico, PPD (Popular Democratic Party (47% of the vote, wants to be a unincorporated territory), against the the PNP (New Progressive Party, want's to be a state, 47% of the vote) are split evenly, roughly 47%/47%. You cherry picked a election which the PNP BOYCOTTED! From Wikipedia "Those who voted overwhelmingly chose statehood by 97%. This figure is attributed to a boycott led by the pro-status quo PPD party, which resulted in a 22.93% turnout." Read Wikipedia, I'm commenting on a video with 1.1 million subs and I know more then you... Let that sink in. Edit: One last thing to say to Americanize this. PR Statehood is a very partisan battle, think MSNBC vs FOX but a hell of a lot more on the line on this island. Anyone reading this I'd highly encourage reading about the history of statehood in PR. PR has advantages for not being a state and advantages for being one. It's quite complex and of course it all comes down to money. Please look this up.

I have been to Puerto rico ,Guam and Hawaii and let me tell you Guam felt like their own country with their own unique culture. Hawaii, well I felt weird because although Is a state, the local natives don't like people from the mainland very much(my experience) And Puerto Rico I have been multiple times and the north area is extremely Americanize but mix with Caribbean culture.,the center of the island (rural) it was a complete different experience like being in the appalachian mountains in the US.and the south west went I first visited a long time ago it was a simpler beach vibes but went I visited again recently it more Americanize well more like gentrification.... even in some of the smaller towns you always find people that speak English and you can see the American influence in the area. So my opinion an outsider is that Puerto Rico is the most likely to become a state compared to the other ones.

I appreciate the fact that you went to those territories before making your judgments. However, I am puertorican, born and raised. I have seen how the new generations have grown a strong puertorican identity after considering what happened in Hawai'i. They were forced to adapt to American culture by prohibiting their language, costums, etc. Taking into consideration that Puerto Rico is bigger than Hawai'i in size and population. For a long time, we were banned from waving our flag, speaking our language, and showing any cultural traditions. But with PR, it was not that easy to eradicate our culture. Nowadays, it's very common that when you ask young people what do they think about the US. Most of them say that prefer independence or that they don't really like the displacing of puertoricans by Americans with the arrival of airbnbs. Apart from the fact that a lot of tourists do not respect the laws, culture, and way of living of us the locals.

Denmark used to be a Right-Hand Drive country back in 1917 when they sold the Virgin Islands to the US. Over time, residents found it much less expensive to buy LHD cars from the US mainland than continue importing RHD vehicles from Europe. For some odd reason, they did not switch to RHT (Right-Hand Traffic) as every other RHD nation has done when they switched from RHD to LHD vehicles.

As someone who has lived in Illinois his whole life, pretty much the entire state wants Chicago out. For people who aren't aware, there is MUCH more to Illinois than Chicago, just like there is more to California than just LA. It is mostly farmland and rural communities with the exception of a few small cities in central Illinois.. Chicago dictates what happens to the lower (very roughly) 330 miles of the state. The bill seems to be submitted every year and seems popular in the lower regions of the state, especially southern Illinois, but gains no traction. If Illinoisians had it their way and how each region of Illinois views the state, it should be split into three states: Northern Illinois (Major Areas: Chicago/Greater Chicago/Rockford, Dekalb, Freeport, South Beloit area), Central Illinois (Major Areas: Peoria, Bloomington/Normal, Champaign/Urbana, Decatur, Springfield, Effingham), and Southern Illinois (Major Areas: Carbondale, Marion, Mount Vernon). When you visit each area, specifically southern Illinois, you will hear mostly everyone refer to the region as "Southern Illinois" instead of the state of "Illinois". Heck, Marion, Illinois has a minor league baseball team called the "Southern Illinois Minors" instead of the "Marion Minors". The term "Southern Illinois" is very strong with them and they typically view the more northern parts of the state with disgust. They relate more to St. Louis than they do Chicago since they are much, much closer to that region. Central Illinois is everything between Interstate 64 and Kankakee. Anything above the Kankakee line is "Northern Illinois". In Champaign, the politicians want to be Chicago so bad it hurts them. They refer to themselves as "Chicago's Little Brother" from what I have heard from living there for 10 years. Obviously, they will never achieve it but it is a good-sized town with the area's population being nearly 210,000. The local population is accepting but still view the Chicago with disdain. Everyone there refers to the region as "Central Illinois" just like people from the southern parts of the state. Northern Illinois, meaning Chicago area, look down towards those who live in Central and Southern Illinois. They think of us as farm people who aren't that civilized. People from Chicago refer to themselves as being from Chicago, not Illinois or Northern Illinois. When you get into the Dekalb/Rockford areas, then they refer to themselves as Northern Illinois or just Illinois. Those areas are more farmland and act more like those from Central Illinois. My family moved to Wisconsin a little while back. I lived there from 2013 to 2019 with my parents until I moved back to Illinois with my wife. In Wisconsin, if people asked where we were from, we could not say "Illinois" and had to say "Central Illinois". We had to say we lived over 130 miles south of Chicago and that "we hate them too." People from Wisconsin call people from Illinois "FIBs" meaning "F*ckin Illinois Bastards" so when we told them we weren't from Chicago, that helped. All in all, everyone hates Chicago unless you're from Chicago if you live in the state of Illinois. A few might have a different opinion but that is what I have noticed throughout my life and experiences living here.

@@confusedcat-sm9cy well.... make the rest of the state like you. In california, LA holds no water against the other bigger cities. San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento are all very different cities with pros and cons. We have always been talking about breaking California into 4-7 states. It all comes down to money. San Francisco generates more revenue than the entire state combined, but if they separate they would end up running the state on their own while saving taxes from going to other parts. Then you have smaller cities that if they end up in the wrong state, they would end up paying more taxes for less state resources like San Diego, which was more supported by the federal government due to military bases. They would lose state resources while probably paying less taxes. It gets complicated, but there are a lot of pros and cons. I do believe for Chicago, Illinois just hates them cause all the power and reputation is centered on them. The good and the bad.

Complain about stupid and arrogant, all while you assert there is categorically nothing more to a state than it's major city, believe you know everything about a state and it's 6 million residents because your "family is from Illinois", while you also make-believe anyone's grievances with Chicago boils down to race. If you got your bigoted impression about Illinois residents from looking at your own family, then it's apparent the apple fell to a lower branch of the tree. As someone pointed out in their comment "the relationship between Chicago and the rest of Illinois is the poster child for Tyranny of the Majority, one group browbeating the other because they have the most power". Low and behold here YOU are on queue brow beating anyone who may have issues with Chicago's innumerable problems as racist. I've read through many comments in favor of a split, yet your comment is the only one which makes a racial argument. It's such a tired trope in 2020 that those who point their finger at others claiming racism are so often the only people who focus on race.
