Thank you!! I'm glad to hear that it's not necessarily squirrels or raccoons making noises in my attic. The noises I hear are random banging (like you described and said they're not usually animal noises). But then I could've sworn one morning I heard the proverbial acorn rolling sound right above my vaulted ceiling as well. And I couldn't confirm 100% that I hear scurrying, but it's noises from random points of the ceiling which are not near the attic, not in one place. There's a bedroom between the attic and the vaulted ceiling and walls where I often hear them. And the time is often 9am to 2pm, as well as very late. Like right now (midnight), I just heard a loud bang. Btw, I did notice that the siding on my house looks like it's been pried away (by wind or animal) way up high near my roof's highest point.
It sounds like a nut being screwed into a screw that has been stripped. I know it's not a mouse because my cats go on alert when there's a rodent around
