I used to be addicted to my phone but I started with these little steps . 1. Don’t go on your phone one hr after waking up . 2. When you find yourself bored you are more likely to go on your phone so find something to replace that boredom . 3. don’t go on your phone 1 hr before bed

The problem is that often there isn't much to do outside anyways. Our cities have slowly became car-centered graveyards where 90% of the public space is roads or parking lots. It can be hard for kids to have space to play on a world like this.

I think we should somehow get a "disable" button for some features in our apps. Take KZread, for example. I'm fine with long videos and podcasts (though I still spend a lot of time on them, I'll be honest). But I feel like the short format is draining the life out of me. I don't enjoy doing this, I just get irritated and nervous over and over again, but I can hardly restrain myself. And the app doesn't make it any better because it shoves this format right into my mouth.

Just think about how many billions of dollars of research and algorithms are stacked against you when it comes to social media and video games. Tech is not inherently bad, it's how we use it. @Mas-ij3ti For me I used my social media as a scrapbook. I don't use Facebook anymore but it has many photos that I've lost when switching phones. Nowadays I use an sd card or usb stick, but social media is more convenient if I want to add a comment about the photo instead of pairing each photo with a word document. But if I have a bunch of pictures from a trip then I prefer the sd card or usb stick because then I can make a folder specifically for that trip. While I don't think many think this much about preserving moments, I do think that many people use social media similarly as a scrapbook or like a memory reel of sorts. However, most people around me aren't really using social media much. Their internet usage is moreso watching videos or playing games, which can be social but differently.

I don't think denying kids technology is a good idea, it's necessary in today's world. However, supervising their technology usage or using it together and answering their questions about it I think is the way to go. Knives and hot stoves are dangerous but my mother still let me help her cook when I was young. First it was just me watching and asking questions but then she'd slowly introduce smaller tasks. Come junior high I could cook on my own. I think technology can be approached in a similar way.

he isn't talking about physical dependence, that's a different kind of thing (even though you do get some physical dependence on weed). psychological addiction can be completely independent of any physical dependence and has to do with your brain's reward system and individual impulse control to dopaminergic stimuli. "smoking every day for years" implies addiction, btw, unless you have full confidence you can take a break for an extended period of time without any issues. either way it can definitely be addicting

That's not how addictions work. Addictions are categorized as sucb because they impair normal living. If you watch TV to the point it impairs your day-to-day, yes, you could say it's addiction. People who are addicted to social media are 'addicts' because they compulsively check their socials, thus impairing them from normal focus and functioning. You aren't addicted to something because you have an interest in something or use it as a coping mechanism. If you watch TV to unwind but then turn it off and go to work the next day, no, you're not addicted. If you love lotion and skincare but do your routines in the morning/when necessary and are done, no, you're not addicted. Addiction is when there's a neural necessity for the activity/substance that impairs normal living. So... anyone can become addicted to anything, but not everyone is addicted to something.

You don’t need to have done any research on the topic, just think lol. For those curious though: Early 2000s and a 2008 article ‘Issues for DSM-V: Internet Addiction’, probably more before then too. the studies focused on computers because we didn’t use phones as much. ADHD types do tend to idolise a maverick, and it’s not like you called yourself a maverick. Nothing wrong with self-promo but this is misleading. Dr K is already a maverick anyway 🤷‍♂️
