Yes! I have experienced prodromal labor for weeks on and off, and sometimes it was so intense that I believed I was going to have the baby! When it came time for the REAL thing, wow, it was INTENSE and my labor (it was my first home birth in the water birthing pool, nonmedicated and unassisted) went SO quick! The whole process took 30 minutes, with only 15 minutes of pushing. It was the most intense, most beautiful and most empowering thing I have ever done! I did it 10 months ago and I get to do it again next month! (I am currently 34 weeks pregnant). :-)
I think I’m experiencing this - mostly at night, waking up to contractions and my back is soooooo sore. Kind of nauseous and can’t get comfortable for the life of me. The daytime is a little easier. Looking forward to meeting this girl!

No one ever told me this was a thing. So imagine me thinking it was go time 😒only to have it happen over and over again over this past week. This is so frustrating.
Currently experiencing it now everyday for the past few weeks and its mentally exhausting. I DESERVE a fast delivery. So glad i saw this video. #37 weeks

Yeah, prodromal labor can have pretty strong contractions. It’s exhausting.
I’m going through it since last three days. So frustrating for me and so confusing for people around me. I hope I get this baby out soon.
I'm almost 39 weeks with my 4th baby and have been experiencing prodromal labor since 37 weeks. One episode got to the point where contractions were 3-4 minutes apart, painful (made me shake) and felt just like active labor. That went on for 6 HOURS. My midwife had come to the house long before and we decided she should check me at that point. I was only at 2cm, barely effaced and baby was high. She decided to help my body calm down so I could rest. Very frustrating and exhausting. Since then I still get regular painful contractions throughout the day and night (every 30 minutes - 2 hours). Hopefully this baby comes soon.

So I ended up going into labor two days after I posted this comment. It was my shortest labor at 5 hours. Interestingly, the timing of contractions was very different from all my other labors too. Early labor started at 15-20 minutes apart, then 10-15. They got to 6-7 minutes apart and stayed that way for a couple of hours (active labor). Finally they were 4-5 minutes apart for 30 minutes (transition). I didn't really even have to push, my body did most of the work in 3 contractions. I was expecting my contractions to get closer (2-3 minutes) like they had in the past or be back to back but that never happened until I "pushed." Because I missed the signs I called my midwife too late and ended up having an unassisted home birth. Everything worked out well and baby was fine. But if I didn't have so much prodromal labor it probably wouldn't have turned out this way!

Prodromal labor is an absolutely FRUSTRATING mind game 😫. I’m now 40 weeks + almost 4 days and have had prodromal labor since 38 weeks. This is my fifth pregnancy, first girl 👧, and first time I’ve ever experienced this! I woke up in the middle of the night for the first time at 38 weeks and thought for sure I was going into active labor! I started shivering, having diarrhea, and the contractions kept waking me up from sleep. I called my parents and even sent my three boys to stay with them for four days while I waited! This happened again the following night and then things were quiet for a few days. The following weekend, same thing! I got excited this time bc I thought for sure “today is the day!” I decided to lay back down to rest and ended up falling back asleep only to wake up and all contractions had stopped 😑. I struggle, thinking “is something wrong with me??” Am I EVER going to go into active labor?? 🤦♀️😵💫

I relate so much and dread this is going to happen to me too! Im 39+5 right now and have had prodromal labor since 2 am. This is my third baby and I have never had this with either of my previous pregnancies. It's honestly the most annoying thing ever. And everyone saying it's worth it because your active labor will be like 30 minutes to an hour, but is that even a good thing when your body is playing the boy who cried wolf with you? I feel like I won't even know if this baby is coming for real until I feel their head coming down! 😂

I’m experiencing this right now… This is my first pregnancy and we’re having a baby boy. I’m 40+1 weeks now and have been having these start and stop contractions for almost 2 weeks! At this point I feel like I’m yelling wolf… This weekend I had non-stop contractions for 20 (!!!) hours! I was sooo sure I was giving birth. They also got closer, more intense and in their peak were 2-3 min apart… And then - it stopped. So frustrating
Currently 41 weeks and 2 days. I’ve been having this kind of labor for about a week or so now. Last night we had a friend over and it was so bad that I had to excuse myself. It lasted for about 2-3 hours. My husband and I finally went to bed and nothing. I’m 41+ weeks. It’s very discouraging because I don’t want to get induced and I don’t plan to but I do want our little one to come. I’m learning to walk by faith and not by sight. I want to trust the Lord whole heartedly with this process no matter what comes. I want a myself and baby to be healthy whatever the outcome and I know He will take care of us. I’m so sad it was true labor though I really want to have this baby today (9/23/2023) 😢
I just had this last night and it lasted every ten minutes for 5 hours. I almost called out of work and we both called our families. Glad I found this video. Thank you❤️
Im going through this now, had it for almost 2 weeks now. Im in the 37th week so its not a big deal. I actually think it started at 31 weeks but the doctors pushed it off with a shitload of magnesium. So to say this shortly, i started getting lightly painful contractions one day at 35+5 weeks (my braxton hicks dont hurt so i started worrying) and when the next day they were getting pretty bad (hurt badly in the abdomen and lower back) so i went in to the hospital, found out i was dilated but only half a centimeter and i was put on Mg, only that made my contractions worse. They picked up on frequency and pain, i was shaking from it. But after a few hours after the Mg it would calm down a bit and with a nother dose it picked up again. The doctors said that oh well well just leave it be and see what happens. So the contractions would come in waves (more frequent and painful - less frequent less painful) but no dilation, the KTG scan showed that i was having contractions from 40 to 100 in scale. The nurses tried convincing me that i was "having braxton hicks and they can be really uncomfortable" while i was literally shaking and couldnt sit still from pain (ridiculous). Then after 5 days of no more dilation or regular contractions they sent me home. They say that a woman cant be laboring for days, that its impossible but prodromal labor is exactly that, its being in labor for a long time only its too weak to make any progress. My mom had this for a week before my brother came, her friend had it for 3 weeks before her child and she tried so many things to start the labor but nothing worked for those 3 weeks. Also the part with very quick delivery after prodromal labor is quite true, that friend of my mom, she was in labor and didnt even notice because her contractions felt the same only they started dilating her and she almost gave birth at home when her water broke (seriously, it broke and the baby was out minutes later). This is one thing that makes me happy im going through this stage 0 of labor because im 17 and wouldnt like to have to go through active labor for too long especially taht the baby is pretty much sunny side up. I know, it was supposed to be short but im not good with short 😅😂 oh well Anyway, im happy that i finaly know what is wrong with this situation because not even the doctors could properly diagnose me and tell me what is going on. Ive noticed that you cant really trust or rely on hospital doctors because of mine and my families past experiences with them (lupus, cancer, goal bladder stones, operations, brocken bones, postpartum problems, allergies and so on). Ive learnt to self diagnose because the doctors are incompetent of doing so. The only problem is that its not an actuall diagnosis... so i dont have any papers or proof... 😕 Thanks for reading if anyone read it ❤❤❤
I'm currently in prodromal labour and it has been over 2 days but I found this video very helpful ❤ thankyou

How long did it last I'm on day 2 of it 🙄
I experienced prodromal labour with my daughter for 3 weeks. It was exhausting and mentally draining by the third week I was having 5 to 8 min contractions every 20 min all week. On the flip side once I hit active labour my daughter came in 5 hours!
I'm 32 weeks and prodromal contractions have began yesterday that lasted hours, while being totally hydrated. Happened one week ago for the first time lasted 1.5-2 hours. I've scoured the internet and found many articles don't discuss this how EARLY women can begin this in their pregnancy, but many comments I've found are very validating, saying this began for them around 32-33 weeks (or later.) You're body is slowly transitioning in the last two months to prepare for labor. Stay hydrated. Coconut water. I've also noticed Braxton Hicks early on about 16 weeks or before.
I have this every pregnancy 😩 for 2-3 weeks before I deliver. It is exhausting, but you’re right it makes for fast deliveries! My last baby was 30 minutes from first hard contractions till delivery (not the bearable contractions I had been feeling at home). I have to be induced at 4am tomorrow for medical reasons, with baby #4 (last baby, and finally a girl after 3 boys! 🎀yay lol), and really hoping that these last 3 weeks of prodromal labor pays off like last time!

Same! 34-39 weeks for my first two pregnancies of contractions. Dilating me. But never “real” labor lol This third baby I am also having them lol started at 34 weeks again! LOL with my luck I’ll go to 39 weeks 6 days
Yes I've had prodromal contractions for 3 weeks now. Most have been quite manageable. Some are sharp, some are period crampy, some tighten my entire abdomen and back. The OB suggested something to stop them, I refused because I at least want the practice! I trust this is all part of my body working to receive my 3rd baby. I trust this is what we need. Thank you Kira for all the great content, very helpful! P.s. delivering at home with my husband any day now 4/27/23
Can’t thank you enough! No one actually knew what was happening with me! Just reached 38 weeks and it’s been a week of off and on prodromal labor and it’s really frustrating and exhausting that I was about to consider c-section

Me right now! I'm having it for the past 5 days. My body is tired 😫 I'm really thinking about a c section now. Especially since baby is in breech. I really wanted a vaginal delivery but I can't take the false labor anymore

@@soumayyamahamatsaleh8736 I feel you! But if your doctor recommends a c section then so be it If not, I believe there are remedies for this such as drinking more water than usual as I found out that it was mainly an issue of low amniotic fluid around the embryo.. And yes it is extremely exhausting but you can do this!
I had prodromal labor with my second son (homebirth) one long night. Ended up having him 3 days later. Now 39 weeks 2 days with my third (having a homebirth) and have been experiencing prodromal labor for 4 days on and off. It is discouraging. But thank you for the reminder to just rest because I've been trying to walk and keep moving thinking it'll start something up.
Went to l&d twice just to be sent home. I’ve been so worried and this video was pretty helpful. Thank you
Just realised this is what I am experiencing… 2 days in now… my second baby I never had this with my first and I can’t beleive I never knew about this before! Will be happy if it means a fast active labour and delivery though😅
I had prodromal labor with my 3rd baby. It was crazy cause they were timed in at every 2 to 3 min. They felt like bad period contractions and would go away after 4 hours or so. So when I went into actual labor, it started at 2 min apart right away. I was like eh it might be the fake contractions. Well I had her 3 hours from first contraction. I wonder if there is correlation to prodromal and precipitous labors. I was not dilated at all or effaced the day before I went into labor. By the time I got to the hospital I was 'dilated bearly a 3' and had her 35 min later. It was intense.
I've been experiencing prodromal labor for about 2 weeks. I am currently 36 weeks and 6 days pregnant. When I found out about it through going to the ER because I was having painful contractions, they were about three minutes apart. I thought I was in labor. But I wasn't dilated and I was 0% effaced. Then the day after I had the same issue and went to the ER again. They were five minutes apart that day. Then the pain and contractions would die down. I definitely agree that it's frustrating because it really plays mind games not knowing whether you're in real labor or not. But this video definitely explains the difference between the two. And I love how you explain some tips on how the manage the pain ❤🙏🏽
This is my second baby. I was induced early due to severely low fluid on my first. That being said I have never experienced going into labor naturally. I have been experiencing prodromal labor for 9 days now. Thank you for your advice on how to survive prodromal labor. It definitely is a mind game. I will do my best to try and get extra rest. I have also been trying to use this time to organize and finish last minute projects to prepare for baby. That helps keep my mind off the contractions. Hoping you all have healthy babies and safe deliveries.
Been having regular contractions the past 2 nights and then it dies down. Go to sleep hoping I wake up in active labour but nothing. Fingers crossed for a faster and easier labour
I just finished experiencing it for the last 2 hours… yeppie fun stuff. Now I’m all dressed up with no where to go. 😂
I’ve been going through this for 4 days now, but my contractions have intensified to excruciating pain to where I’m crying out every 5 minutes and not sleeping. I’ve been to triage 3 times this week and am sent home every time because I haven’t changed from 1cm dilation. This is the worst pain I have ever been through and it’s so exhausting and confusing 😔 talking about planning for an induction early next week since today is 39 weeks.
Thank you so much for sharing. I wish more doctors helped eduacate us, its so invalidating to be shut down by nurses when you know you're feeling something new. Then I'm just left worrying because I know its not braxton hicks, had no idea prodromal labor was a thing till now
I’ve had this on and off for the last month and I’m not due until Christmas and I’m a first time mom.
This is helpful. Thank you! 37+5 with my second and had to be induced with my first. So I'm not sure what it's like going into labor on my own.
I experienced this twice and now a third time! But I will say that my prodomal labor did dilate me to 4cm. I stayed there for 5 weeks for both my first. They were nervous about preterm labor but my body stopped on it’s own until the very end!
With my first baby I woke up every night starting around 35 weeks with consistent, timeable prodromal labor. I was a mental wreck because not only was this going on but I'm a petite woman (pregnancy was torture) with a tendency towards impatience/anxiety. I wanted that baby out at 32 weeks, then the prodromal labor started... I only knew it was real once I had a membrane sweep and contractions started 3 hours later. I progressed very rapidly once my water broke at 3ish cm. Ended in a c-section but still.
I’ve been in prodromal labor for 5 days now. I’m mentally and physically exhausted pain was bad that I had to get a shot. Pain went away then come back. Contractions are so strong they make me pee on my self from the pressure. I had Braxton Hicks before and this don’t feel like no Braxton Hicks. I’m in tears sometimes. I feel my body pushing but still no cervical change. Im stuck at 3cm dilated and 80% effaced. I’m 36 weeks and they won’t induce me till week 39.
Im 36 weeks an 2 days and mine started earlier today. And i noticed they were more painful then Braxton hicks. I thought it was time but i waited it out because I didn’t want to take a hospital trip for nothing. They happen about every 2 hours or so and last forever. Been going on since 9am this morning!
Experiencing this now at 34 weeks…it’s been going on for almost 3 days
I never knew about this until this pregnancy, which is my 3rd. I never had it with my first 2. I ave been having these for a week and a half now. I am 37wk and 5days. Aghhhhh, it's so exhausting. I have to have a c section and the hospital is 20 minutes away. I just hope I make it there before acyive labor speeds into gear. So nervous
For about a week now I have been having contractions. On the first day I had 2 or 3 then the next day I had about 4 or 5. Now they will be about 20 minutes apart lasting 1 minute. They start in the evening around 5pm and go away when I go to bed around 9:30pm I'm 40w and 1d with my 3rd pregnancy and soon to be 3rd birth. The anticipation is killing me! My first was born at 42w4d active labor started naturally then sped up with pitocin it took about 19 hours. My second was born at 39w and 2 days active labor started and he was born 100% natural in 12 hours.
Going through this right now, three days in and I'm already so cranky and frustrated. I just want to cry, and I get little symptoms that may or may not indicate active labor is about to happen but nothing concrete. My body is so sore and I can't concentrate on anything or think properly and emotionally I'm exhausted. My last labour lasted 5.5 hours start to finish, so last time I had contractions as strong as I've been getting them, I was holding a baby in less than 5 hours. So frustrating.
This prodromal labor is driving me nuts. It has been 48 hrs. The pain is no joke. Can't even have a good rest. I've tried warm shower and drinking lots of water. 😣
Thiss my first baby I was having contractions regularly went to the hospital and dialated from a 1 to a 4 and my mom flew up from out of state and then the contractions stoped getting stronger just stayed how they were and I didn’t dilate anymore so the doctor came in and told me if I wanted to be a horrible mom and risk my baby’s life he would induce me or I could go home having these contractions every 3-5 minutes and just wait for it to pick up I went home and didn’t sleep for 3 whole days because of it and my moms time was running out with me so I went back and begged them to induce me I was 39 weeks exactly they sent me home with a sleeping pill told me come back in the morning and they will see what they can do I felt like I was going insane all over bad birth but I’m now 38 weeks with baby #2 and so hopeful and determined that this time will be a more positive experience
35 weeks right now, baby measuring 37 and I'm pretty sure this is what I'm experiencing right now. Started on Friday night/Saturday morning and has been going for about 2 days now. So, with the first baby, I had precipitous labor and now I'm getting the opposite it would seem. Kira, do you have any videos discussing recipes for labor-aid or suggested labor snacks? I know the one visit we had together you said the banana-nut keto bombs were a good snack, but I'm looking for other options as well. And since I will now have to be delivering in the hospital, it needs to be something that can be snuck in. ;)
I’m currently 39 weeks and 4 days. I’ve been to the ER twice in the last two days thinking something is happening. Im 2.5cm,50,-3. I can hardly sleep and these contractions are 5 minutes apart lasting around 40 seconds consistently. This is my second pregnancy and I didn’t experience this with my first daughter. In fact I didn’t feel contractions much and was induced by the time I started contracting I had an epidural. Im hoping for a vbac but at this point, with this constant pain, I’m reconsidering a c section if they can do it asap. My due date is in 3 days 4/15…im exhausted, physically and mentally
I tend to experience prodromal labor for up to 2 months before I go into active labor. However, I've had a lot of kids (expecting my 6th.) I first experienced prodromal labor (more than a day or 2) with my 3rd pregnancy. I also dilate and efface early on (usually around 18 weeks) but stay between 1-3cm and up to 40% effaced until active labor.

Been experiencing it since 1 week and im 39 weeks , 6 days left for my due date im exhaustedd 😰😰😰
Thank you for your positive insight on prodromal labor. I think most doctors will just pressure the mother to induce
This sounds like what i have been experiencing started a week ago a little second baby here and there daily then last night I really thought I was in early labor. Freaked out and we went to the hospital. Had the same symptoms it felt like expect for pain. Felt like the contractions took over my whole body, nausea, confusion, too many thoughts, extreme weakness, intense belly cramps. My fiance was frustrated and stressed which made me feel a lot worse. Very frustrating and insecure state. We both were convinced it was labor. They measured everything. Then the laboe stopped 2 hrs later and we went home.
I hate this for 4 weeks before my daughter came! I’m really hoping I don’t have it this time! I’m scared that I won’t know what’s real labor this time! Contractions every minute for 4 weeks 😭🥴

I have been in pain for the past 5days, they are more painful than Braxton Hicks and less painful than real labour.for me they are regular about 5min apart, and usually come at night so am sleep deprived.they are mentally and physically exhausting. Can't imagine myself going through that for weeks... Is there a way to get them to real labour?
3 weeks in now. Mostly in evenings. Soo fed up
My prodromal was longer and more painful than my precipitous labor. And I do dilate ahead of time so if I were to call my provider every time I had prodromal it would seem like I’m like in labor cuz I was dilated.
I had prodromal labor with my first child. 24 hours of contractions that were 4 minutes apart, with no dilation. After 24 hours, I dilated to a 4, enough to be admitted into the hospital, and then I progressed to a 10 in less than 3 hours. I wish I knew this information then! I had no idea what it was and I definitely let it get to me physically and mentally. I remember the nurses telling me it could last a week or 2 and I felt there was no way I could possibly deal with that.

I just had pain that lasted for 24hrs which suddenly stopped and I am now thinking that it was just prodromal labor.. but series of IE's were done to me at the hospital (and it was 3-4cm) and there were also brownish color of discharges just like drops of blood... so I am now so confused of what it really was as the pain has just completely gone.. and I'm on my 38th week
I had to go to the hospital this morning I was having contractions for about 5 hours but not dilating or opened
10 days of it 4 hours every day in the night contraction with get closer and closer together and be quite strong and then at the 4 hour mark they would just stop it was awful 😢
Been having contractions every 4-7 minutes for the past 36 hours. I was told I’m in prodromal labor. Mine have gotten worst and it hurts so bad.

Yeah I’ve got this rn. Second baby and I’m only 35 weeks. But I had it for several hours the other night with them all being 3-5 minutes apart then they died down. But now I’m getting them throughout the day. Definitely not Braxton Hicks because they are very strong. Not super painful but definitely strong and uncomfortable enough that sleep and rest are hard
Great video, thank you! I have a question? With both of my births I spend the last three weeks in what feels like and, from this description, sounds like prodromal labor. However, I am sloooowly progressing. I dilated about a cm a week for the last four weeks, spent my last two weeks with almost 100% effacement, and the baby was already engaged all four weeks. So basically, is that prodromal or just really slow early labor?? *as miserable as this sounds it’s really nice to already be at 5 or 6 when you do finally start active labor 😂🙌

Did you ever receive an answer about this elsewhere? I’d love to know what that was as well.
This so sounds like what I am going through! 38 weeks and 3 days now but started at 38 weeks. Can this be associated with brown discharge?
I'm currently 35 weeks 3days pregnant and going through prodromal labor since 4 days 😰
Yes I had it with my 3rd and now 4th. Miserable. They feel love they're getting stronger and longer then fizzle out after a few hours then start again. Night is the worst. Waking me up.
It’s impossible to sleep through contractions
Doyou have any suggestions on how to rest? For 2 of my labors, I labored for 3 days and everytime I sat or layer down the contractions would be so much worse. I was exhausted by the 3rd night to actually be able to fall asleep sitting in between my 10 min apart contractions. I was so exhausted.
I am going through prodromal labour right now my contractions were constantly all exactly 3 mins apart lasting a min and it lasted a whole 2 hours then stopped.. I then had more irregular contractions that were so painful I couldn’t get up...

Try to sleep. Warm baths with epsom salt. Relaxation exercises.
I've been having cramping on and off and backaches. Is that prodromal labor? It's been happening for a few weeks now.
Me currently! I'm 36 wks+2 days. Been to l+d because I thought I was in labor! Thank you for the tips!
😒 I’ve been dealing with prodromal labor since 28 weeks and I’m 35 weeks now... “a couple days” I can’t even begin to describe how mentally and physically exhausted I am.

Oh goodness. I would have recommended magnesium a long time ago to calm your uterine irritability. Do you have a midwife??
I’ve had it for 3 weeks, had contractions that last 5 mins (at level 8-10) and take 5 mins to go away on the monitor! It sucks! Lol ☹️ I’ve had time able contractions 5 or less mins apart for hours and then nothing for a few hours feels like I’ve done 5000 sit ups and I wanna punch people in the face who tell me “you’ll know when it’s labor” 😂😂😂 and as of last night I’m 3cm 50 effaced

Yes, I have experienced this for a week (3rd baby) and when it first started, I lost my mucus plug and went to the hospital. It was embarassing to be told it was false. I feel like I will never have this baby :( I am 4 days overdue and I am just exhausted

Yes lost my mucus plug yesterday morning. Been 2 whole days of irregular bearable but painful contractions. I’m at 38 weeks and 2 days. Hoping the active labor phase is easy and quick 😌

With my first son, my prodromal labor started at 36 weeks and I had him at 37. Very straight and to the point birth! My second son however, it started at 35 weeks and went on until 38 when he was born. My body was so worn out, my contractions were excruciating! I’m 36+2 with my third son and prodromal labor started at 33 weeks this time. I’m slowly but surely dilating, it’s very very frustrating that contractions don’t pick up quite enough to make a big difference! What causes prodromal labor?
Day 4 of pretrominal labor, so tired
That's not good news for us csection mamas 😪
I think this has been happening for a month. I'm assuming this is definitely not Braxton Hicks
yup this is it 😑
