Comfort measures can be used in labor to ease discomfort, help the baby navigate the pelvis and to distract the brain to help improve the birthing experience. Each comfort measure used for labor and birth serves at least one of these purposes! Kira I am so glad I found your videos, they are amazing! Before discovering your channel I was convinced I wanted an epidural and I was terrified of anything and everything to do with labour. I still have a long wait, I'm not due until March 2020, but I'm already feeling so much more empowered and confident about having my baby, and now I want to do it naturally. Thank you so much for all of the content you make. Please keep it coming! 💖

@@carlymccormack783 it mostly did! The Labour went as well as it could've done. I was able to stay calm and relaxed for the whole thing and the only thing I had was gas and air. I laboured at home for a while then once at the hospital I was already 5cm and went into the pool. I didn't even know it was close to pushing time until the midwife told me (my waters never broke and she said once they break baby will be ready to come - I couldn't break them myself so I asked her to do it). It was my first baby and the labour was only 6 hours 10 minutes. The only thing that didn't go so well was right at delivery time when baby was stuck because she'd rotated so I had to have an episiotomy (I stated I didn't want one unless it was an emergency and it was), so I had to get out of the pool for that. But then baby came and it was all done. I couldn't have done that without Kira's videos! It honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I think that's because I was so relaxed and calm that it made it much easier for my body. Now I have a gorgeous little girl who also has a very relaxed demeanour. 🥰

@@lauraclarke7197 So happy that you shared your experience. I initially said that I wanted an epidural when delivering as well but have since changed my mind. I don't know if this is TMI to share but what was it like to have the episiotomy? It probably sounds scarier than it is, but I find not many people share this experience. If it's too much to share, understandable. All the best to you and your little one!!

@@lp8598 Well done you for changing your mind! Regarding the episiotomy, I didn't even feel a thing. They numbed the area with a local anaesthetic first though I think. To be honest from climbing our of the pool to baby being born it went so fast and is a bit of a blur!

I am 3cm dilated and 70 percent effaced, 39 weeks 4 days. I’ve been in extreme pain at night with contractions that aren’t consistently enough to be in active labor. I lay rotating from one side to other but laying down at all makes them worse. Is it my babies position? Can I hope to get any rest or sleep?

I am being induced next Monday at 36 weeks for medical reasons. Is there anything I can do to be sure my baby and I are ready? I received a steroid shot a week ago to be sure her lungs are developed and I’m drinking raspberry leaf tea and taking evening primrose oil. My midwife thinks baby will get up to 6 pounds but not for sure.

  • @OhItsYoux3

If you receive an epidural you won’t have the control and sensation needed in your lower limbs to support yourself in that position, so no, you can’t. Getting an epidural *usually* means you are confined to your back on the bed!

Everyone is different but with my first, and an epidural, I could feel literally nothing below my waist and could not have lifted my leg if my life depended on it. With my second and an epidural, I felt much more but don't think I could have gotten on my knees, let alone stay on them
