Only realistic way is for them all to go up, otherwise travel costs for one would be very high. With rumors the remainders of the PAC-12 could take teams from the Mountain West, those 4 could fill the empty spots.

I think both JMU and Sam will of course struggle at first in the FBS but they are both strong programs that will adapt to higher level comp and both schools have good fan bases. As a former BearKat I look forward to Sam Houston in CUSA and will also follow JMU in the Sunbelt.

SHSU will struggle a lot more than JMU in first 5 years in all sports. JMU will be competitive day one in Football and stay relevant in the top third of the Sun Belt. And while I'm dying to see the rest of our stadium upgraded JMU has been a most expensive ticket over UVA for 5+ years and it's because JMU averages close to 25k fans per home game reg season and have for years. So for JMU it's about when to put an indoor practice facility attached to the stadium and add premium seating over the issue SHSU has just getting to 20k-25k seats.

JMU did well in football this past year, but they just lost their football coach. I believe that they will be OK moving forward, but they will find that FBS is not all milk and honey. They will be tested, both financially and on the field. Another school that moved up with JMU and Sam Houston was Jacksonville State. They also had an excellent season, though not as good or as noticed as JMU. I believe that they will also struggle a bit, but will make it work. They also will probably lose their coach. Eventually, I believe that they will make it work. Finally, Sam Houston competed hard, but did not have much success on the scoreboard. I believe that they will improve, but they will go through a few years catching up to the FBS. They will struggle, although perhaps the new CFP-ESPN TV money will be enough to save them. Since you did this video 2 more teams will be joining FBS, Kennesaw State in 2024, and Delaware in 2025. Kennesaw is interesting because its enrollment is so large, and it sits in the Atlanta metro area, but its football field only seats 8,000. Huge potential, but they also need to make major facility upgrades. Delaware would seem like it has a solid foundation, and it has time to prepare, so maybe they will be OK. Looking into the future, and not considering President Baker's proposed new subdivision, the next targets for FBS look to be schools in the Big Sky, if the Mountain West should lose schools. Schools in the MVC like the Dakotas are probably not going to be targets because they are not close to FBS conferences looking to add schools.

So is the REAL issue that NDSU won't move up to FBS, because they're comfortable with being a FCS power? When those other FCS programs became dominant, they looked to move up. App State did it. Georgia Southern did it. Western Kentucky did it. Marshall did it. Liberty did it. JMU is now doing it. But NDSU won't do it.

No invite from any FBS conferences. They're geography could be playing a huge reason in that. NDSU is too far east to be in the Mountain West, and too far west to be in the Mid American Conference. Even if you take geography out the picture, for some odd reason no FBS conference wants them.
