As an OU fan, no, no it doesn't need to be saved. The most lopsided rivalry in sports can die a quick death and absolutely no one outside of maybe a few OSU folks will care after a year.

The primary challenge faced by Brent Key is how he will reestablish defensive legitimacy to the program. The offense is solid and the learning curve under OC Buster Faulkner was pretty quick. I suspect the curve will take longer on the D side for Tyler Santucci and his assistants. Yet, even a modicum of improvement from the outset could have the effect of getting the defense off the field once ot twice more per game. That could have a substantive impact on anything resembling a close game from early in the season. There are several reasons to expect improvement, especially in the Front 7 where we now have adequate size and depth. Any positive impact whatsoever by our pass rushers could make a difference. Perhaps a more aggressive attack mode by the Front 7 might create more wins at the LOS, more TFLs and more turnoverss that this year's offense could turn into points. It would be reasonable to presume the 2024 defense will be better, to one degree or another. How much better and how fast the D can develop into consistently good unit. If Haynes can outplay Ugy at QB from FSU in his first start for the Noles, and the D can be competitive, Game 1 could wind up a huge surprise and confidence builder forthe Jackets. Wht we absolutely cannot have are losses to Georgia State or VMI. The challenge for Coach Key will be to avoid losing winnable games. If the defense can come together, 2024 will be a solid season for GT and a harbinger of long term football success and relevance, which is part of GT's institutional DNA.

Current Kent State student here. Kent will never be good! They don't prioritize football and don't give two fucks about the team, even though it brings in more money than any other program they have on campus. They are content to be terrible and a laughing stock. Terrible team, terrible stadium, terrible administration. They are more worried about burning through money with woke initiatives and telling the may 4th story over and over like a broken record than achieving anything of note athletically or academically.

I always wanted Saban to complete a full turnaround of his alma mater program as HC once he left Alabama. But now I know that he tried & they picked someone else over him he’d never stoop that low again lol.

The description of their "credentials" reminds me heavily of another "K-State": the Kansas State Wildcats, prior to the 1990s. Many of the numbers were similar, though Kansas State had only one bowl game to the five that Kent State has. Like the Golden Flashes, they were often described as the "worst" college football program (a 1989 Sports Illustrated article dubbed them "Futility U") at the top level (then called Division 1-A, now called the FBS), were neglected in favor of the school's basketball program, also had only one conference title in school history and had a total of just 5 winning seasons from 1935 to 1990. Kent State just needs to find their own version of Bill Snyder to turn them around...

Kent State is just waiting for it's opportunity to break out, I've been to every home game starting in 2020(band member) and even when we lose, it's always the end of the game that gets us, if we can ever figure out how to finish games, we'll definitely see more success

Zach Miller, TE for the Chicago Bears for a couple of years, was a QB from UNO and was drafted by Jax in 2009. He was probably the last starting QB for UNO’s football program. He’d suffered that nasty leg injury against the Saints in 2017 and since retired from the NFL. He’s a singer-songwriter & guitarist now. Been meaning to see the guy play, but he seems like a good dude. I was happy to see someone close to home playing in the NFL

i agree all this does not look good. I was a diehard Soul fan and season ticket holder from the teams inception. My daughter was even a Soulmate Dancer for four years. i must admit Jaws, JBJ ran a first class organization. They were able to put together a top roster with Tony Graz, Matt D'Orazio, Chris Jackson and my favorite football player of all time, #11 Mike Brown. Jon Bon Jovi always said he was building a team of "character" not characters. After JBJ left, Jaws tries to keep the team and team viable, but it just didn't happen. I was holding out hope they would return, but the things I've read over several weeks seem to make it look like a very long shot! Great informative video...

Illinois State was runner-up in 2014, losing to NDSU in the title game. They both only had 1 loss, each to UNI in consecutive weeks in the UNI-Dome, and didn't play each other in the regular season. It was probably one of the best title games since they moved the championship to Frisco.

Yet another internal issue where the University of Nebraska makes bad choices to try to bring the Huskers back to their former glory. Few University systems stab themselves in the back so routinely.

A 60 yard run is a thing of beauty but as a Georgia Southern long time fan, season ticket holder and alumn, a 90 yard drive, that eats up 8-10 minutes of the clock, is also a thing of beauty!

USports play a great version of 3D! (Three Down Canadian rules) football. But - yah - just as with the CFL there is no comparison when it comes to $$$$. Lots of Entertainment and Talent and many players go on to a professional career in the CFL and sometimes even NFL level.
