What is KOTATSU?! A unique Japanese heating furniture 〜炬燵(こたつ)〜 | easy Japanese home cooking recipe

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, I am showing what Kotatsu is and how they are built. Kotatsu is a special table with cover over it and with heating inside. There are normal flat-Kotatsu and socalled Hori-Kotatsu, where a hole is dugged on the floor.
In my Channel, I show step by step of alternative but authentic Japanese home cooking, which can be made with the ingredients that are easily available outside of Japan.

Based on some other Japanese videos I've watched, it's also good for keeping kitties warm.

In Spain, in the old times we used to have what we called "mesa camilla" (not sure where the name came from). Used to be a not very big round table with a kind of "skirt" from the top to the bottom and underneath there was a brazier (with coal). You sat at the table, put the "skirt" over your legs, up to your lap, and it was nice and cosy. I don't thin people use them anymore, and it is a pity, because they were wonderful. You had meals and coffee at the "mesa camilla", you played games, or you did your homework. When I discovered kotatsu I had a sort of nostalgic trip to my childhood! ❤

Vau, what a hack. I always wondered how Japanese can sit so close to the table. Thank you for teaching us another great Japanese tradition :)

Very cool. I had a teacher who had taught in Japan when he was younger. He described these to us. But, I had never actually seen one.

i wish i could have one in my house ❤ it’s efficient and energy saving! ❤ Bernard Leach ! he was a very famous potter and brought japanese esthetics to the west through ceramics. i had no idea he also had an influence on japanese culture.

Great video, as always. It looks so comfy; I wish we had something like this here in Germany, too. One suggestion, if I may; I think you could drastically and relatively cheaply elevate the quality of your videos with some kind of Lavalier microphone. Even cheap ones can improve audio quality simply because they are closer to the person presenting. Maybe that's something to look into :)

This answers so many of my questions when I would see these in anime or live action Japanese shows, thank you! ❤ And no, these are not available outside of Japan unless I go through a Japanese seller on eBay; I tried lol. Also, maybe I missed it, but if y'all don't have central heating, are you supposed to sleep in the same room as the kotatsu? Or would you use the flat kotatsu under the futons?😊

I yearn for such an amazing device. Central heating have been down for most of the winter in our flat and I mostly confine in bed these days 🛏️ Very cool ! I love the pit : looks twice as comfortable. Do houses usually come with such features?
