I have been trying to cook Japanese food and Washoku for a long time and it made things a lot easier for me when I found you channel, since I am in Germany and can easily recognize the products you use. I have already tried many of your recipes, all of them are awesome: from the beautiful pink radish pickles to the adaptation of dango with glutinous rice and tapioca starch. Your videos on Japanese culture are also really interesting and the trip to Tsumago-Juku und Magome-Juku was really cool.

#2 is really handy. Producers should use it for all snacks and chips. #7 built-in zip locks here I see for some spices and whey protein. In those cases it makes no sense, because the powdered products clog the zip locks and after 2-3 uses they do not lock any more. However, for non-powder products it is very useful.

I love how the saran wrap is already pulled out slightly unlike here where the saran wrap is packaged in a way where you have to find where the heck the edge is, and then have to force it apart just to get that initial piece. The Japanese packaging for the saran wrap also has a disabled friendly appeal to it because of that; it’s much easier on the fingers and so much less frustrating.

Yes! 👍Very clever packaging. The zip-lock packaging is familiar, although I don't believe it is used so extensively where I am. The (chocolate) auto-lock box is familiar also although it is more miss than hit in my experience so Japanese is much better, because of the catch for the tabs. I agree about the saran wrap - Japanese is waaaayyyyy superior - typically here, either the film is reluctant to cling or it clings to everything on the way to the thing you want to use it on; 😒and tearing it from the roll is often an annoying exercise. Nice ideas share. Thank you.

We do have some of these packaging ideas on UK items. However they are always low quality such as the ziplocks aren’t sturdy enough or lined up correctly. Or the box cardboard is so flimsy it acts like paper on the joins so opens up again. I’ve bought quite a few Japanese product’s recently and noticed that any additional add-ons aren’t just for show. They DO actually work. Consumers can see that quality control is so much higher in Japan. Quality was also something we also used to be famous for but as each year passes our products become cheaper and less about customer experience and more about the company making the product as cheaply as possible. Add to the fact it rains so much no wonder we’re the island who likes to complain. Lols! Great vid! Thank you. Also really looking forward to your video on Oden. Can’t wait to see the Taiji version!

I absolutely agree that the Japanese companies are much better with packaging. I wish companies took more time developing their packaging with the customer's needs in mind. I will say the cling film in the USA is terrible. We do have a product called Press-n-Seal that is opaque and very sticky. It seals as well as your cling film. The down side is the quantity in the package is much less than that of the cling film options and it is considerably more expensive. Thank you for sharing these cool packages! 😎

Why else do you think Japanese people are so skinny? Joking aside, once you figure out how to open them it's not that difficult. They don't open the same as in the west so if you try to open them in the same way, you'll be struggling for a long time (talking from personal experience). But if you open them in the Japanese way, it's actually really simple - even a kid could do it.

It's not about the increased cost of production: the big question is, where do you throw the plastics. Do they go in landfill, or does Japan have a superior recycling system? Do the ziplock bags go in soft plastics recycling, for instance.

One thing I was told that Japanese food package picture is same size as the item inside the package. Like the candy will be same, or the chocolate ball will be same. Is this true?

the incorporated ziplock has been around in Europe for many years. Also in the Middle East. Just yesterday I opened a packet of rice from India (imported to Europe by Turkey and sold in a Turkish store in the Netherlands) that had it. I've seen pudding cups like that in Italy. They don't have crème caramel cups in the Netherlands, so I've never looked. The cling film that doesn't stick is a problem in the Netherlands and Germany. It drives me crazy, I have been known to bring it back from Italy or France. I don't know what part of Germany you live in, but if it's anywhere near Luxembourg or France, you may want to go over the border to Auchan. I think that it's in Italy that it has something like that flap that sticks to the edge.

Please please please, what you showed is not a pudding in Europe. It's called flamery. The pudding comes from England and has a kind of cake consistency and is steamed. Btw auto-lock boxes and cling film with a metal cutting edge have been around in Europe for years.

Dear Taiji, I really enjoy your videos and I specially enjoyed this video, partly because I love Japan since I was a child, and also because I love packaging (lol). Please Keep making videos. But I have two suggestions: In my opinion the title of the video and its thumbnail don’t match the content, and it has caused the video not to be seen as it deserves. And the other one is about Cuts. I think the video absolutely will be better if cuts would be smoother.

Hi and thank you for your comment and also for the productive criticism! can you be more specific about the title and thumbnails? how should I change them, so that it represent the content of the video? and thank you for your support!!

Thank you for considering to my suggestion🙈 I think ‏The current font color is close to the background color and although it is very large, it is not very clear. And also packages are not very clear and their creativity is not shown. In my opinion the thumbnail will be better if you select a shot of those packages in the video (eg when you empty the pudding, both the pudding and the package are seen to pique curiosity). The font should be a little bolder, not so big that it takes up half of the photo.
