Oh goodness, I just did this the other day using a beautiful blue yarn. When I was done it could’ve fit the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man! Thanks for the explanation, Sigoni. 💜💕 I almost spit my water when that hat covered your face 🤣😂 EDIT - Can’t wait for another live! 😘

I make mostly amigurumi; never thought about gauging until I saw it all over my Insta feed and I was thinking of making a sweater. Gauging always sounded SOO confusing to me, so I wasn’t going to bother with it! But something told me to look it up. I have a feeling everyone else’s videos would have been a bit confusing for me, but yours was very clear and to the point! I loved how you explained how you need to go up or down a hook size based on your tension, and it helped me understand gauging a lot better. Thank you!

I’m so glad you found it easy to understand and helpful! ❤️ Gauge can definitely get confusing easily but it’s good to understand the basics first and then like everything, it makes even more sense with time

Super helpful! I am trying my first garment & instead of just jumping in I did a gauge swatch, & wouldn't you know, it was off...this gauge swatching is a pain but I know in the long run my item will actually fit as directed!

Hey! Beginner at crochet here, I’m having lots of difficulty sizing for projects since my bust and waist are very different sizes. Even with simple projects that just require squares I don’t know how to do it in a manner that the top also fits around the waist. Is there any hack that I’m unaware of? Could you please make a video addressing this? Thank you!

I personally haven't made many garments so I don't have any great advice here except that it's always important to make a gauge swatch first. If you're still having trouble with the fit, you may have to work with it to adjust the pattern size to fit your measurements. A great channel/designer to get answers about this is Two Brothers Blankets. You can find her channel here: kzread.info/dron/2dK4uzIftNtEMYR_2bk1Zw.html I hope she can help answer your question!

LOL!!! I learned the hard way to always check my gauge! After not crocheting for about three decades I decided to crochet myself a hat ! Well it was very similar to the one that you demonstrated, so I decided to frog it and try again, it was similar to the first hat you showed! ....in the end it did fit my grand-daughter who was about 4 at the time!!! Then getting ambitious, I crocheted some booties for my new-born grandson, if only he were baby big foot!!! It is only now I understand why mom had so many swatches turned blankets!!! do you have a solution or any tips to fix hats that are too big???? I have since learned my lesson and always make my gauge or like mom used to say make a sample first - mom was right when she said check your gauge!!! TFS the video!! very informative

Hahah! I love your gauge "horror" stories. They're the best. I'd say the only way to fix it is if you can find someone who it fits, just like you did with your grand daughter! And someone else suggested (for the big hat that I'm demonstrating in the photo), that I could fold it up so it formed more of a brim and it would fit pretty well that way! So that's another solution 😊
