What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, is a type of psychotherapy based on the idea that how we think affects how we feel and behave. Mental health counselors use CBT to address problems such as depression, anxiety, addictions, and more. This video provides an overview of the theory underpinning Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and how it is actually applied in session. Each section provides examples to make CBT easy to understand.

I just got out of the hospital. One of my favorite group leaders "Marty" talked about CBT and "Pills and Skills" you can't have one without the other when you have severe mental illness. My new therepist does not know CBT. I hope he is open to learn or I can stay motivated to help myself. I really like your videos.

i recently submitted an assignment online about a moment we’ve been overwhelmed and my professor just responded with the words, “cognitive behavioral therapy?” so i’m pretty sure she’s recommending i’d go to therapy which is pretty fucking hilarious how she said it but i thought everyone thought like this!!!

Interesting video. I guess it was kind of enlightening. It probably explains a lot why CBT only made me worse. My sister has actually switched from CBD to mindfulness and seems to be doing much better. It's amazing what happens when you let go of your active thinking mind and immerse yourself in the passive feeling mind.

Chriscom28 - I'm a huge fan of mindfulness, but it isn't a good fit for everyone (just like CBT isn't right for everyone). I'm glad your sister found what works for her!

I'm glad that you mentioned that CBT isn't for everyone. I'm not all that opposed to cognitive therapy, just the people that reduce all peoples problems down to bad thinking. I myself have had experienced anxiety reduction by cognitive correction. I thought the transformer powering my guitar amp would damage it as the amps of the transformer was higher than the amp. I was told this wouldn't matter as the amp would only take what it needs. Though with something like dealing with triggers from PTSD, I think CBT would be less effective. All incoming stimuli goes to the subconscious limbic system before going to the conscious thinking cortex. But with the guitar amp concern the data had to be decoded by my conscious frontal lobes before triggering an emotion of anxiety. I think something like this should be done to determine the effectiveness of the treatment for each individual. Sorry for the long post, it seems I like to over-elaborate to get my point across. Thanks for your reply.
