0:00 Betaine hydrochloride has excellent benefits for your digestive tract
0:30 It’s a combination of betaine and hydrochloric acid
1:15 This is why betaine hydrochloride is so important
In this video, I explain what betaine hydrochloride is along with its excellent benefits for your digestive tract.
Betaine hydrochloride is an amino acid. It’s found naturally in certain foods including beets, spinach, beef, and shrimp. Betaine hydrochloride is an important natural remedy if you have SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth), because one of the functions of a strong acid is to prevent pathogens from moving from the stomach into your small intestine then multiplying out of control.
Betaine hydrochloride is meant to increase your stomach acid; in other words, to lower your pH. Your stomach acid should be between 1.5 and 3, which is highly acidic. This will help with the absorption of vitamin B12, minerals, trace minerals, and protein. It activates protease, an enzyme that helps break down protein into amino acids. If your body can’t properly break down protein, it’s left partially undigested, which creates a big problem.
There’s a condition you can look up called hypochlorhydria, or low stomach acid. It’s common in people over 50, and your stomach acid lowers with each passing decade after that. What’s interesting is that the first symptom of this condition that’s often given is GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disorder) which is a fancy word for heartburn.
Here is where people are often confused. You have heartburn but also low stomach acid? How is this possible? It’s because, without enough stomach acid, your body can’t close the valve at the top of your stomach, thus allowing acid to splash upwards into your esophagus and burn or irritate the area.
The remedy of betaine hydrochloride is excellent for GERD and acid reflux. Be sure to not take calcium at the same time as betaine hydrochloride, because the calcium will neutralize the acid.
I recommend taking betaine hydrochloride before each meal. You may need as much as 5 or 6 tablets before you start eating. It may take some time for it to help your body make more acid.
Antibiotics and antacids tend to destroy your stomach acid, making you more dependent on these medications. Take betaine hydrochloride to help.

I have used this for over 40 years to add acid to my stomach to digest protein which I use a lot of and getting stronger. I learned a long time ago that over the age of 40 you start making less acid in your stomach to break down your food and that's why you have a lot of digestive issues which I no longer have. I was born premature in my esophagus wasn't fully formed when I was born and I only weighed 13 pounds when I was a year old because I couldn't keep anything down. Therefore I always had what I referred to as a delicate gastrointestinal issue. This nutrient and digestive enzymes have really made a difference for me. I am now 80 years old and I'm in greath health.

500 MG capsules... If it were me I would start with one before my meal. And then afterI 3 days you could do 2 before your meal. And you can go up to 3 or 4 if you need to but that wouldn't be forever. You listen to your body and and if you're feeling too sharp in your tummy you know to cut back. I've been doing this for so long that my body is very sensitive to it so I generally don't need more than one. The brand I use is from Natural Factors... The name of it is Betaine Hydrochloride with fenugreek,, 180 vegetarian capsules. I hope this helps.

If you don't burp after 60 seconds then take another and wait 60 seconds (if you burp after the second one then don't take another), if you don't burp within 60 seconds of taking a tablet then take another and wait 60 seconds. Over time the number that you take with decrease until you're no longer taking it. Also DON'T CONSUME ANY BEVERAGES DURING A MEAL AS WELL AS DURING DIGESTION! Non acidic beverages will dilute the stomach acid. I reckon that's exactly why. Stomach acid is not only for the digestion in the stomach but also for the digestion which continues in the begining of the small intestine, if the stomach is bypassed then... that'd cause a lot of trouble, like SIBO.

I get really tired of salads so I take organic chicken broth, boil it, salt it as necessary, then throw enough spinach in there to get my daily fix after turning off the heat. The spinach will cook in the heated broth. @@adgroundwork i read this online for folks that take ppi and want to get their stomach acid back up. Begin by taking your regular dose of OTC PPI medication every other day for 1-2 weeks as your symptom level allows. If symptoms exacerbate beyond a tolerable level, try taking a half dose daily for a few days, then wean back to a reduced dose every other day. Follow dietary guidelines as given, particularly avoiding refined carbohydrates and sugar, alcohol, caffeine, excessive amounts of raw veggies, capsaicin and other hot pepper byproducts, and tannins in black teas. • While weaning, use stomach healing nutrients daily as recommended by your Nutritional Therapy Practitioner or Nutritional Therapy Consultant, for example: Vitamin A, cabbage juice or Vitamin U, Vitamin D, 100% aloe vera juice, bone broth, chlorophyll, deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL), L Glutamine, Jerusalem artichoke, milk thistle, probiotics, slippery elm, or marshmallow root. In addition, 1-2 tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar in 4 ounces of room temperature water at the beginning of each meal is recommended to promote gastric enzyme activity. • On the “off” days from taking OTC PPI medication, take a hydrochloric acid (HCl)/enzyme supplement (1-3 tablets) with each meal, as well as the stomach-healing nutrients. If intolerable acid reflux occurs, eat a few more bites of a protein food, or drink a small amount of baking soda in water (one teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in 4 ounces room temperature water), or plain seltzer water, to calm your stomach.

Wow, I never knew you had to take five or six of the capsules. I started looking at what Dr. Berg‘s protocol was in regard to GERD, and I said I taking digestive enzymes as well as what he’s talking about here, but I always took just one pill, because that’s what it said to do on the container. Can’t believe it took me months to find this video and now I know how to correctly take this product, as well as the fact that it actually makes my body produce its own stomach acids. Thanks, Doc!

This is what I don't quite understand. Depending on where you buy the serving size is different, if you're in the US you could buy from him but the container says 2-3 a day with meals. But that's only 500-750mg a day, so is he saying you may have to take 5 times this? Or even 5 before a meal which would be 1,250mg? I can imagine his general digestive aid is aimed at anyone who sometimes has bad digestion, but from those suffering with it most days, that's when you'd need to bump up the desired dose.

As usual, a great right to the point video jamb packed with true very useful information. When you say HCL is not a long term aid, how long is not long? When you say it takes time for HCL to help produce more acid, are you referring to the time you take it before a meal, or the time it takes for the stomach to eventually produce the right amount of acid needed? How long approximately does it take for things to get better with HCL typically keeping in mind everyone is different?

First of all thanks for all you great videos! I have a few questions about beraub hcl cause I started taking it and don’t feel that good. 1. For how many days do you recommend taking it in terms of when does it start to change the stomach/gut vs. When is it to long time to take it cause: 2. just after the second day of taking it my stool turned white basically and I wanted to ask if that’s a common sideeffect or should be look after quick?! 3. I started having extreme bloating after two days of taking the pills (1 with each big meal) shouldn’t that decrease? I might try it longer of course, but I’m confused with my bodily reactions to the pills 4. The gerd is gone at least! 🤗 If you could give some insights on this would be awesome!

I’ve been having a lot of minor health issues, including low levels of iron despite supplements and an acid reflux that was more like congestion than burning. The GP just told me to keep taking iron and acid reducers. I decided to finally see a naturopath doctor who tested everything (we though I had hypothyroidism). Turns out I have low stomach acid and all the nutrient deficiencies (iron, b6/b12) etc that go with it. Did an iron IV and on a regimen of Betaine HCL and sublingual vits for a week now. Hoping my energy and immunity return! 🤞🏼 FYI high and low stomach acid have similar symptoms. Do the ‘bicarbonate soda burp test’ to see if you actually have low acid.

See if I can address multiple comments on this.Geographic tongue is patterns in tongue - so it looks like geographic map. Tongue reading often used in Eastern Meds. When my digestion improved, so did tongue (now smooth/normal). - With regard for long term usage, I would say it’s safe as long as it’s working or if you stop taking, it stops working. It’s pretty well understood that as we age, our ability to produce HCL declines. With the foods of today w/so much processed, I’m not sure how anyone can live w/out adding HCL and Enzymes. - The type? Solaray makes a good one w/Pepsin (important). These are capsules which I prefer to tablet/hard pill. There are a few others but really it’s ones preference. I’ve tried different brands and they are comparable but I do prefer the Solaray.

Ordinary salt - sodium chloride - will also help stomach acid production. It's the chloride ions that are needed to make the acid. So, if you use, say, potassium chloride or magnesium chloride as supplements, these will also help acid production. They're probably cheaper, too.

Thank you for this video ! It helps me a lot realizing I do not have enough acidity in my body. Question: is it ok to take HCL + Pepsin tablet on an empty stomach and while fasting? I notice in the morning I can have this burning pain behind my xiphoid bone/diaphragm, but when I take the HCL the pain magically goes away!
