*i went without glasses for over a decade and in that time my vision kept getting worse. i was having to squint and squeeze pretty badly and just couldn't see. i **_finally_** got a prescription in 2020 and a few weeks later got a pair of glasses.* *WOW. i couldn't believe people could see so clearly, naturally, with healthy eyesight. it really blew my mind to think that there are people who see so clear. i struggled pretty badly for the first couple of weeks. i was seeing **_too_** clear and it was making me dizzy and nauseous. i almost couldn't walk. for real.* *know what i have now? it's soooo funny. i have granny beads! eyeglass chain, so i can have my glasses nearby when i need them but the ability to take them off and not have to put them in a case or otherwise risk losing or damaging them. i'm an overgrown child who can't stop laughing at the fact that i'm an old lady now. granny beads are right up my ally, so amusing.* *i have these really bad, heavy, deep lines between my eyebrows from all those years of intense squinting and squeezing. permanent scarring, really.*

Glare is not astigmatism. If you have astigmatism you see two lights. If it’s a line then you see two parallel lights one above another. You see stars as lines no matter how hard you try you don’t see stars as a dot

I suffer from this but it isn’t as bad as people think it is. Your eyes don’t always see odd refractions of light it can also depend on how stressed ur eyes are, if I’m relaxed and things are going fine my eyes will see clear and normal but sadly lights on card like headlights always appear as weird glares for me so I’m interested in getting some glasses to correct it!

I have astigmatism in my right eye and wear contacts. I also use my varifocal glasses and don't have any problems with either, even when driving.

I have this and I can see perfectly out of my left eye but my right eye is just so blurry , my eyes also have sort of a different shapes

Iam blind in one eye astigmatism in other eye and cataracts, plus long and short sighted, diabetes makes me anxious 😬 now . Thanks for your videos. We say Rugby 🏉 ball in UK 🇬🇧 or football ⚽️. Ps love 💗 how quirky you are while being a great educator .

I'm a competitive rifle shooter. I've been depressed lately because my astigmatism hampers my performance. Using a reflex sight is impossible without glasses. I hope my vision can be fixed.

Hlo doc I have -6.00 spherical in both eyes and -0.50 cyl in both eyes with 180° in left eye and 30° in right. But m using spectacles with only spherical power. mild astigmatism can be masked with a shperical spectacles?

I really do enjoy the education I receive on eye health by watching these videos, Along with that, I really enjoyed the video where you showed yourself getting an exam and in reality was a good demonstration of an eye exam,

My 5yo daughter has astigmatism R-2.50 L-1.5 and she also has high grade lens..is there any eye drops or medication for her high grade vision?. Her next appointment with pedia opthais by next month.

I love you. My eyes look 10 feet away at a red LED and I see something that looks like cyclo hexane with red carbon atoms. But it gets worse. As time goes by cycloheptane becomes cyclo dodecagon . Optomologis just said wear glasses; the optometrist just said I am old :) No one told me of a cause or correction. 1.5's do real well. 2 of them together and I can read the smallest print. I am the proverbial "4-eyes" thank you for the lesson that I can understand. astigmatism-big time

I was diagnosed with astigmatism at 15, I'm now 49. When I was diagnosed, the only option for contacts were hard contacts and those are horrible. Years later my Dr told me they have soft lenses I can use now, so I've tried them twice and just couldn't deal with the trouble of wearing them. You have to wear toric? Lenses which are weighted on the bottom because just like the glasses there are 4 areas of adjustments to your vision. The problem is I work construction and I'm not always standing upright. The lenses only work because the are weighted at the bottom and don't rotate. Well you'll soon find out if you decide to lay on the couch to watch TV, the contacts will rotate 90 degrees and you can't see anything lol. I've worn glasses for 33 years and everytime I go to the Dr, I have to get a stronger prescription. I kept some contacts for some days when if like to wear sunglasses, like going fishing or just out and about. But now I'm off the chart for available contact correction in my left eye. The strongest soft contact is no longer enough to correct my left eye vision. So hopefully one day I'll be able to get the surgery. Otherwise it's glasses till the end😅. Good luck on your journey with astigmatism if you are just finding out.

Yes, it is. Really the part of the eye that is more "football shaped" is just the cornea, which is the anterior-most structure!

Hi, I'm 24 and my eye doctor just told me I have astigmatism (-0,5 at 10° left and -0,75 at 170° right), never discovered before, I worry a lot about it. is that a normal symptom seeing a slight vertical doubling of the text with one eye, and when it's dark, that doubling and another one horizontal? I read a lot about keratoconus and i am affraid of having it, but i'm sure i'm never rubbing my eyes

We actually have the same story/situation right now. I have also double vision and thought it's only regular astigmatism. But as i learn more about irregular astigmatism and kerotoconus, it seems to connect and match all my questions about my eye. I'm really hoping it's not kerotoconus and it's just regular.

Astigmatism is having two *different* curves on the front of the eye.

What about retraining, such as the Bates method and modern derivatives?

I have astigmatism, I wear glasses, I can see clearly even when reading, but when I read books, I get a headache after a while. It's better when reading on the iPad and on the computer, I can even read the same text that was in the book, but it's scanned on the computer or tablet. I don't understand where the problem is.

I've always seen light glare have a star burst shape when I was a kid but my vision was absolutely perfect back then. Im in my 20s and now I can't see clearly past 4 ft. I should've taken care of my eyes if I had known it'd be like this. Shouldn't have taken it for granted 😭😭

Definitely get your eyes examined and make sure to ask your eye doctor. They will tell you about your prescription in detail!

The docs say I have an astigmatism and I have been looking at videos and material on it. when I look at things, they are just out of focus and not stretched or maligned in any way. I use a +2.75 lens to see close and a +1 to see far. Is it possible that I just have poor vision because I'm not young anymore (I'm 60). It started wen i was about 45. The glasses they got me at the doc's didn't really help so i got them on the web and they work well. What say you doc? BTW, you resemble Lisa Welchel.

The eye doc said that I have it, but nothing it blurry from what I know, I jsut know that I take in too much light or something, every time I’m on my device I’m always turning the brightness down and even in the tv and even that’s n sufficient enough, I wear sunglasses as well, does this sound like it?

Went to the eye Dr. Got diagnosed with one eye my right eye with an Astigmatism. Funny bc after I covered my left eye, wow it was so blurry. But trying to explain to my friend how I see the letters with my right eye with the left covered..I'm like trying to figure out the word I wanted to use. Ghosted would have been the word...I happened to see a magnet with that lettering I was seeing.

All I know that I didn’t have Astigamatism when I was born. And I didn’t have it when I got my first pair of Glasses.But I got Astigamatism after I wore Glasses for a while. I believe it is the Glasses you wear to cause the Astigamatism. So Astigamatism can be reversed. I got rid of the Astigamatism by wearing glasses without Astigamatism correction and wearing same power in both eyes glasses. Also I do more exercises.

My astigmatism went away in the right eye after using progressively higher reading glasses (+1.0 -> +2.0) when working close up and progressively lower distance glasses (-1.5 -> -0.75) when driving or at least two hours a day. Look up Todd Becker myopia a modern yet reversible condition.

Hi! The doctor said my astigmatism is super high..I don't really know which eye because when the doctor and my mom was talking I was not listening😅😅 all I heard was my astigmatism is so so high,but I think its my right eye that does have astigmatism as my vision is blurred from any distance,near or far,my right eye is like 4 or 5x worse than my left..and also my vision in night is super bad..my glasses have anti radiation btw..can you suggest any apps that might help my decrease the radiation in my device even more? I downloaded a anti blue light it kinda helped..I play all day..yes literally so I think if you could reccomend some apps for reduced blue light and rad,also if you know some eye exercises and some things to do to improve my eye vision..my current anti blue light kinda helps my eye not to like hurt or strain..even though a 8hours nonstop play..hehehe..😅😭

my daughter is 6 and she has hyperopia with astigmatism and amblyopia. her left is -4.25 cyl and +4.5 sph. her right is -1.5 cyl +3.0 sph. can this be corrected with glasses and is it possible she can stop wearing glasses after getting corrected?

Hello, I have astigmatism. For the people without astigmatism I will easily explain what we see when we look at light. Step 1: Take your phone Step 2: Open your camera app Step 3: Point the camera at a light source Step 4: Wipe the camera lens with your bare fingers The light now looks distorted on the camera with like ‘Stripes’ on the side. That’s what we see with Astigmatism. The strength of the distortion may differ according to your own eyes.

Hay I found out I had astigmatism when I had my eye exam last week it was -0.50 for my eyes and I just see things blurry all the time and see glares and like stars of lights at night it is kinda frustrating but I will get glasses soon does that fix it

Yes it should help a lot. Low levels of astigmatism like -0.50 are notorious for causing glare and haloes while driving at night in the rain. Being fully corrected with your glasses should help minimize that!

I was diagnosed with astigmatism 4 months ago and they added cylindrical lens in the spects. Without glasses , I see the light from vehicles, bulbs distort in slanted straight path. Easy diagnosis for you people.

If u r still here 4 floaters, there is some magic cure, bromelain search it up, it wonderful and made my floaters disappear without any surgery. Thank God I'm excited 😊

Eyes bulging from astigmatism bring to mind keratoconus, and LASIK is NOT recommended if you have that.

Oh it's not just driving in the rain. I've got the best contacts I can have, but driving at night is extremely difficult. I have had to stop in the middle of the road to let a car pass because all I could see was their headlights. Scary.

I can’t see far away. I use to be able to see up close pretty well. Now I have to get a inch away from the page or screen in order to read things. My eye doctor diagnosis me with astigmatism. Does it cause blurry ness up close ? I gotta cover my right eye in order to read something or else the words looks weird.

Typically vision stabilizes in your early twenties but sometimes lots of screen use and reading can make it progress more!

I was shortsighted and got refractive PRK surgery. But They ended up giving me astigmatism in one eye 🤦🏼‍♂️

Can you wear glasses for certain time and then not wear glasses or once u have astigmatisum u them always have to wear glasses?? Thnx

Wearing your glasses will not "cure" your astigmatism. Glasses can not correct astigmatism in the sense that they "cure" your eyes. They correct for the astigmatism in the sense that they fix it while the glasses are on.

I went to an optalmologist and had me checked up. She said i have astigmatism. She prescribed me eyeglass with grade and anti-radiation. The day after i went to the doctor, i always feel dizzy after an hour wearing the eyeglass. What should i do ma'am?

Sounds like you're having some difficulty adapting to the new prescription. Most Opticals will encourage you to return as soon as possible if you're having trouble adapting. She may need to adjust your Rx slightly or the Opticians that fit the glasses may need to adjust their measurements.

Depends on the surgery. If lasik or prk then yes! Cornea becomes flatter. Good video idea actually!

@@EyeSchoolwithDrD thank you! Ive noticed that both of my eyes, they sort of bulge out not sure if it has anything to do with it. So the change means that others might notice it as well? In pictures the eye with astigmatism never seems focused on the camera rather it appears to be looking the other way, i dont have this in pictures when i was younger and my vision bc of online classes and not wearing glasses regularly has made the astigmatism worse i believe.

Mine is bad it’s a 5 they are doing surgery to fix it and cataracts

i have astigmatism in both eyes and i’m far sided. i also had esotropia as a child but was corrected over time. i now have a corneal ulcer being treated that will leave scarring which worries me for future use of contact lenses and overall vision but surgery is an option. i’ve realized that the eye with the ulcer is turning outward now? i think it’s due to lack of muscle use but it’s freaking me out and idk what to do :(

Yes, if you can see double vision with only one eye open, it’s likely astigmatism.
