I think Rally 2 is ideal for aspiring drivers & teams who wants to go to WRC. It's the perfect step before WRC. I hope many countries would also host this series not only in Europe. Its should be in various continent so that there would be future talented drivers coming from different places not only France, Findland, Germany or other parts of Europe. On the other hand, I'm fine with the move of WRC did going to hybrid. Everbody actually doing it now. As long as the cars still sounds good, faster than before & fun to drive. I just wonder why they held back their Aerodynamic development. For a top tier Rally Racing like WRC, it should better be up there in terms of Technology & Aero.

Thank you for another excellent video. Could you perhaps make an in depth video on the roll and evolution of aerodynamics in the WRC, from the 2000cc era from the late 2000s, to the 2013-2016 era; and of course the 2017 to 2021, and 2022 to present day eras? It's such a fascinating topic, since aerodynamics isn't thought of as being as synonymous with rallying as it is with track racing, of course. Your research is always so impeccable I really think you could make the definitive video of the evolution of aerodynamics in the sport. Another area I'd like to see covered is differentials and its roll and evolution, as these have also greatly changed and evolved - or sometimes devolved - through the eras. The electronic center diff from the 2017-spec cars is of particular interest to me, as to this day I haven't found sources that explained in depth how this component worked and interacted with the other differentials on the car. Thanks again for the great content. Your videos just get better and better.

@@rallybeast Thank you so much for being open to suggestions. I look forward to all future videos. Keep up the great work. I feel slowly but surely rallying is growing in popularity, and it's helped by all these channels on KZread attending events and filming their own live footage; it gives people a real sense of the speed and up close thrills of having rally cars pass by. You're fulfilling an important function of satisfying people's growing curiosity of the technical side of things. F1 tech is arguably over-discussed, but there's a great gap when it comes to the technical side of rallying.

Cool that Rally2 is essentially a direct evolution from the R5 class, the continuation of a successful formula. Neat cars that are just what I like: an added performance flair to everyday cars, making them fast and efficient without transforming their shapes beyond recognition. However, they're still a bit too expensive to purchase and run outside the big centers, so would be nice to have a feature on regional AWD classes that were created to cover that gap at the top of many national championships.

I want to watch a race that I see my car race and it makes manufacturers make cars I can buy with extreme performance. Why do I want to watch cars I can’t own. Force manufacturers to build productions car, full rally spec. Sequential gear box, long travel rally suspension, fresh air anti lag, keep interiors simple, good seats, high watt radio, heat and a/c. I don’t need fancy stuff. Just stuff to make it livable. People say oh they drive terrible. They don’t actually, and if someone don’t like it, go buy a car that id more soft. That’s my opinion!

Another reason for it being so different is that Rally1 cars have standardized safety cells to cut down costs. This basically means that all the cars have the same roll cages, and since the regulations don't require that Rally1 car must share its body shell with the road car, the teams can basically build a new bodyshell to fit the given roll cage. I think Hyundai and Toyota didn't really need to change the original shape, but M-Sport did (the safety cell didn't fit in the original Puma properly).

Having seen them on many rallies, the problem is that those cars hit the road on the stage after the rally1 monsters. In comparison to rally1 on fast sections they look slow, soft on suspension and are way too silent. On slow sss they are capable of beating rally1 because they very nimble on slow corners. Diffs are pretty good. Probably some noise, harder ALS and stiffness on suspension cost not that much.

What was the reasoning behind limiting aero and the center diffierential in rally1? I could understand cost capping measures in the support classes, but it struck me as odd to do that at the pinnacle of rally. I think I've heard they managed to get around 290hp out of the cars with the FIA mandated restrictor. Either way, not sure it would change much. Plus, let's not forget, Rally1 cars only have around 380hp, they have 500hp only with the hybrid boost, which isn't available all the time, and due to the absence of paddle shifters, more advanced aero and centre differentials, they're actually slower than the last generation WRC cars. I'd also say it could be going against the limited cost philosophy, since increasing the power would cause the engine to wear more quickly, increasing servicing costs. I don't think it's really worth it for the rather small increase in power.

Rally2 should be top class. Getting rid of production car chassis for top class of WRC was a huge mistake. Why would success on the stages cause excitement about road car when there ain't even performance oriented AWD trim. Or usually any sporty trim at all. R5/Rally2 share this problem with Rally1 but at least these cars look similar to their road car equivalents. FIA should try to look for the way to involve more manufacturers with cars that are related to their road cars. All regulations that come before WRC gave us a ton of great performance road cars, some more, some less successful. Ability for public to buy car related to one that amazed them on stages was huge part of WRC appeal.

It Be fair I like both all class. But wrc1 need to scrap it used wrc 2 instead. When newer driver joining wrc2 should be lower bhp till get experience or get good points results. And every team should keep 2 car pair team with salary cap so top team won't buy from driver while toyota had 4 rest had 2 or 3 it to easy for toyota 2 win manufacturers construction points aswell. It might help other manufacturers possible joining in wrc Audi Suzuki Peugeot renault seat mitsubish 🤷‍♂️

Excitement is last word I would associate with R5/Rally 2 cars. Having seen all of the major manufactures bar the new Toyota on Irish Tarmac, I can safely attest that they are slow, visually unimpressive to watch, being on rail tracks through the corners, and sound like they wouldn't be out of place on your local motorway. We get that for national championships, they are cheap to buy and maintain, but they are light years from what came before them in terms of the late 2000's WRC generation, or even the later 1600cc WRC cars. There has to be middle ground found somewhere between the ridiculous cost and complexity of the current Rally1 cars and what us being served up in the Rally 2 version, particularly for the upper echelons of national championships.which also strove to have the best Group A or WRC machinery at its disposal.

@@rallybeast Negative, but unfortunately reality. Most rally followers here are of a similar mindset. We have to endure the tedium 10/12 R5/Rally 2 cars each rally, which are as unimpressive and boring as the next, until the modified cars arrive with power, driving skill and are exciting to watch. We don't expect Rally 1 cars to come to keep us entertained, but a former WRC driver here who is still operating at a high level, has commented the Rally1 cars are too complex, too expensive and the WRC and national championships would be much better served with finding a middle ground between the two categories.
