    I really think that the reason miss miscarriages are so shocking and devastating is that other women as a group shroud miscarriage in secrecy and drama. If women knew that it was extremely, extraordinarily common and knew what to expect from the thousands and thousands of other women who have experienced it, the trauma would honestly be greatly reduced.

  • @katieleecgctalksmiscarriage

    @katieleecgctalksmiscarriage

    Maybe it would reduce some trauma. But for me someone who worked at an IVF clinic for years prior to my miscarriages, was very hyper aware that they are common, and how they are treated, the pain from the losses was still immense. My therapist often said there is no way to prepare for a miscarriage- it is simply really sad for many people. Similarly, we all know our grandparents and parents will die, likely before us, this does not make it less sad, despite the fact that it is a common occurence.

  • @elyse443

    @@katieleecgctalksmiscarriage there are a lot of women who internalize their experience as something wrong with them as a woman and something wrong with their bodies. This is the greatest trauma for a lot of women. Many of whom don’t assign a lot of personhood to the embryo/fetus/baby. The trauma that a woman experiences is so downplayed by other women who experienced it differently, especially women who have been through it. You can hold the space for others to experience it differently than you while still honoring your own pain. The physical reality of miscarriage is just normal. But the shock of having it feel unusual can be the main trauma for some. The loss is not as much of their “baby” as it is the profound loss of their feelings about their own value as a woman. This is unnecessary because other women could just say it’s common/normal. Society doesn’t need to shroud it.

    @@katieleecgctalksmiscarriage I think so too. It really is tough to find out information on the actual physical experience of it and the commonness of it. I decided today to look up what a missed miscarriage is as that's what was on my discharge paperwork from the hospital after I woke with tons of blood pouring out of me as soon as I sat on the toilet. I grabbed a stick from outside to "fish" for potentially my baby's body. This happened 5 years ago and that same baby is next to me right now watching cartoons before bed. ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION. There's faulty equipment, sometime the baby is hiding and hard to get the heartbeat. Apparently I bled and they don't know why. When I got to the dr the next day she said the ultrasound looks great and everything was as it should be and healthy. She said she physically wouldn't have known I went through that if it wasn't for blood residue. I'm sorry for those that it's real for and I don't want to give false hope but it'd also important to be 100% sure first.

    The pregnancy was a surprise to begin with and I had to abruptly end the liver cleanse I was on but despite it being unexpected we quickly embraced it. My little 4 year old was so excited and said that he knew it was a sister baby. I along with my husband and others also felt like we knew it was a girl. We will never get to confirm that now. I just announced it to friends and pulled out my my maternity clothes and started shopping on line for baby things which things should be arriving in the mail today. I was feeling anxious and nervous 3 days ago on the day of my first 12 week appointment with the doctor. We got our worst snow storm ever and I didn't have 4WD so I called and canceled the appointment but being anxious due very small but recent spotting a couple of days early I called and requested the appointment back before canceling again due to the weather until I started spotting and called to ask for my appointment for the 3rd time while my husband who was away for work called a neighbor and friend to ask if I could take their 4wd vehicle. When I shared the news with friends I felt strange like I was jumping the gun. I felt like I knew intuitively that the baby wasn't alive in me and 3 of my friends and sisters almost seemed to confirm my feelings. Not verbally but there was a look in their eye that made me think that their intuition was in sinc with mine. Despite that I really hoped to prove those feelings wrong. Which is why I was anxious to make it to my appointment. The doctor and Ultra sound tech confirmed my fears. At first I felt shock and numb. My mom was with me which helped me somehow keep it together. I didn't have the energy to be upset just yet but it has been an emotionally painful disappointment. Especially to have to tell my husband and 4 yr old son who regularly would talk to my belly and wish the baby a good night or good morning. I hope that we have better luck the next time. I wish this for everyone trying to conceive right now.

I relate so much as my son was along for the ride for a few of my pregnancy losses and I struggled having to deal with the emotional aftermath and all the follow-up appointments from my miscarriages. I had a miscarriage very early on at around 3-4 weeks and I didn’t know I was pregnant. My partner & I were trying but that month I didn’t take a pregnancy test because I hadn’t gotten pregnant in months of trying. Early December I passed tissue that I realized later was the baby and had what I thought was a normal period where there was chunks of tissue or blood clots; the period was heavier than my usual but I had no pain or other symptoms. I wonder if this miscarriage would classify as a “missed” or “silent” miscarriage. Prior to that years ago I had a blighted ovum but in that case I knew I was pregnant and felt very pregnant with all the symptoms but never passed anything.

Both devastated, but my wife must be suffering way more than me, and I want to support her the best I can. For me it's "just" pain and shock I still can't fully comprehend, but for her it's like a blackhole opened inside her heart, she is walking around like an empty shell. I am thinking of you and I sincerely hope that you have support in friends and family and an excellent therapist to help carry you through this time. If you haven't talked to a genetic counselor or MD to understand the cause of your daughter's condition and whether there is an increased risk for it to occur again, I would definitely recommend that. I will say most of the time rare genetic diseases are completely unrelated to miscarriages in future pregnancies. Hang in there.

    @@katieleecgctalksmiscarriage Thank you for your kind thoughts. I feel confused. My daughter’s congenital anomalies all happened on one side of her body, as well as her not having any distinctive external features that were a sign that she had a genetic disorder. She had a cleft left foot, but I know that, that can form with the spinal defect. (the NICU doctor thinks it’s Fryn’s Syndrome, but the genetics counselor thinks it was VACTERL Association) It’s just difficult when there’s no clear answer, and they told me this isn’t anything that can be tested in early genetics screeners due to the rarity of it.

    Thank you for doing this video. I done IVF and fell pregnant on my 3rd cycle but first transfer. Everything was perfect and we got to see our baby at a 7 week ultrasound and hear bubbas heartbeat too and we also where able to record it so we’ve got that forever now. I then had a ultrasound at 9+4 weeks and as soon as the tech put the stick on my belly I could my baby with little arms and little legs but I couldn’t see the flicker of the heartbeat. She didn’t say anything and told me to go empty my bladder and that we’d do an internal so she could see better. I already knew something wrong. I went to the toilet and came back and said to my husband there’s no heartbeat, to which he said no she can’t see properly everything is fine. She came back in and started the internal and I was already crying at this point as I knew. I said to her there’s no heartbeat and she didn’t say anything. I said it again louder and she said no I can’t see one I’m sorry. She then tried to listen for it and was absolutely silent. I felt like my heart had been ripped out my body and I couldn’t believe my baby had passed away without me knowing. My baby was measuring 8+5 and I was 9+4. It’s now been 4 days since that happened and I’m booked in for a d&c in 3 days. I never even knew there was such thing as a missed miscarriage. I thought because I felt pregnant and had the symptoms and had zero bleeding or spotting that everything was going perfect but how wrong I was. Now I feel numb and still feel pregnant. I want the d&c to done and for it to be over but then the other side of me is like I don’t want it over, I don’t want to lose my baby and be alone, I still hug my little bump constantly and talk to my baby inside me even though I know bub is passed away but it just doesn’t feel real still. I’m not sure if I should get the testing done on bub or not. My question is will it a piece of my baby that they test or tissue that around my baby? It’s hurts me to think that they’ll pull my tiny baby apart to test it and find out what happened and also scares me so much that what if it comes back that there was no abnormalities and that baby was perfect. What does that mean then? Does that mean I did something wrong?

I caress my belly and apologize to him all the time for not being able to bring him to this world. I have no idea how would I spend the entire day without him asking for food every 2-3 hours. I am so sorry to you and your wife for your loss last month. If this was your first miscarriage, there are great odds that next time the pregnancy will progress to term. Unfortunately, nothing in baby-making is a guarantee. If I had only one loss and was able to conceive with 6 months or less of intercourse, I would carry on without a fertility doctor. Because it took a year to conceive, it might be worth starting a fertility evaluation with a reproductive endocrinologist. I hope you are both hanging in there and I am sending you baby dust.

No symptoms, no bleeding and just the baby heartbeat stops around 5-8 weeks. We saw the baby all 3 times. Doctor said it shouldn’t be a chromosome issue so I don’t need to get tested but just keep trying. But I do not want to go through another miscarriage. Why do you think the doctor said I don’t need to be tested? What is your opinion on this? Is it because they were all missed miscarriages and I also had a successful pregnancy before?

    Hi April. I am so sorry for your losses and that it is taking a long time for a second pregnancy. I have been through the same thing. I had my son in 2016 with no issue, followed by 5 miscarriages. The most common cause of miscarriage is a chromosomal problem. A doctor who thinks that 3 miscarriages in a row is not a problem is likely misinformed. A person who has had 3 or more miscarriages clearly meets the definition of recurrent pregnancy loss. I have some videos on this topic. There are all sorts of tests a well-informed doctor could order for someone who has been through 3 losses. I might consider getting another opinion and meeting some other providers. I also think chromosome testing on the miscarriage could be informative regardless of the number of losses a patient has had. I am thinking of you and hope you hang in there.

    Hi I had the same experience like you. I had my first one successfully. After 3 years I had missed miscarriage at week 20, was a baby girl. Again after 1 year I lost my next one at week 12. Can't understand what's the wrong behind this...😢

    This is my first pregnancy and I had an ultrasound done at 6 weeks and I was told the baby is healthy and that my hcg levels were normal/really good.But currently I’m currently 8 weeks and 6 days.My 9th week starting tomorrow but I have a feeling in my intuition that the baby stopped growing and I’m constantly losing weight.I haven’t had any bleeding but I been having cramping and severe abdominal pain.I even had a dream a few days ago that I had a miscarriage I don’t know if this was a sign/message from God or what 😣.Another thing is I’m constantly losing weight.

    I was told I have a missed abortion non-bio pregnancy I gave them a miscalculation of my weeks they assumed that I was 11 weeks however from my last menstrual cycle I am seven weeks. I was told by my Family Doctor that he’s had clients who weren’t able to hear a heartbeat until nine weeks am I out or should I have hope? I hope my miscalculation of my weeks provided to the ultrasound team doctor didn’t give him the wrong senerio. 😢

    Miscalculations and misremembering of dates happen all of the time. I truly hope that your pregnancy is growing perfectly as I type this and it was just a miscalculation that led to not yet hearing the heartbeat. Things can probalby go either way, but more time is needed to tell. Hang in there!

My doctors seem clueless on what should done to prevent another one. I would really appreciate your advice as regards what tests I should consider doing to prevent another one?

    What are the pros and cons of the three options? With the D&C, naturally or the pill?

  • @katieleecgctalksmiscarriage

    @katieleecgctalksmiscarriage

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@sharondewonsmithable I will walk through my experiences since I have experienced all three management options. The big benefit of D&C is that you get it over with. You won't be bleeding for weeks (assuming all goes well). You also have a good chance of getting enough tissue to test for chromosome imbalances with D&C compared to trying to collect it at home on your own. So if testing the tissue is important this is a good option. The downside of D&C is it is a surgery, it felt traumatic to go in there for the surgery, and it was expensive because of my high deductible. The pros of the pill are it can help you miscarry at home on your own. So if you prefer to see the tissue or pass it in the comfort of your own home this is a good method. Cons of the pill are that it doesn't always work and that some women report that passing the tissue at home is incredibly painful in terms of cramping. For me, there were losses where I tried the pill three different times over three consecutive weeks and I still didn't fully pass the tissue. I had to have an ultrasound each week to look at that tissue still sitting in my body. This ended up being much more traumatic for me than the D&C and I hated the experience. For other women the pill works on the first shot. And naturally, the benefits are again you get to pass at home. The downsides would be you don't know when it might happen, it may never happen, so again you may need other interventions. I hope this helps.

    Same, I just found out a few days ago at our 11 week 1 day unltrasound and doc said I’m sorry there’s no heartbeat. We did have a healthy heartbeat at our 7 week ultrasound so I was really hopeful that all would be ok at 11 weeks. Doc said based on its size it died at 9 weeks. So now I’m waiting for it to pass as a miscarriage naturally :(

    Hi Donna. It sounds like you need someone who speaks your language or an interpreter to help you understand what is going on in your pregnancy. Can you try requesting interpretation services next time? The word miscarriage and abortion are used synonymously in the US by clinicians, I wonder if something was lost in translation. I am thinking of you and hoping you get clarity soon.

    Hello- not a medical doctor but going through a missed MC right now. I will have to have treatment to pass mine. When I think of a missed MC I think of you going into your scan thinking all is OK and you feel very pregnant with no signs of MC- then they tell you there is no heartbeat. Since you started bleeding, it sounds like your body is passing naturally, I am so sorry- so technically not "missed". However if someone did not pass everything naturally that would be missed and need additional treatment.
